Expectant fathers take pledge to support breastfeeding

Visakhapatnam: In a novel initiative, expectant fathers encouraged their pregnant spouses to take an oath in support of breastfeeding at an awareness programme organised as part of the 'World Breastfeeding Week' celebrations. During the event, medical experts emphasised the importance of breastfeeding and maternal nutrition, highlighting the fact that only 68 percent of mothers in Visakhapatnam currently practice exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months, according to the latest NFHS-5 report. They stressed that this percentage can be significantly improved by educating mothers during pregnancy on effective breastfeeding techniques. The programme witnessed participation of 30 pregnant women and their families. As part of the novel approach, the fathers were seen taking a pledge to encourage and support exclusive breastfeeding for the newborns. The initiative aimed at reinforcing the role of family members in ensuring optimal infant feeding practices. Organised by GITAM Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (GIMSR), the event was held in collaboration with the institution's women empowerment cell and departments of community medicine, pediatrics, and obstetrics and gynecology. A key highlight of the programme was a live demonstration using mannequins to showcase appropriate breastfeeding techniques. The event was attended by GIMSR Pro Vice-Chancellor B Geetanjali, dean SP Rao, and women empowerment cell chairperson V Bodhi Srividya, among others.

NRI dispute triggers legal action in Andhra's Chilakaluripet

GUNTUR: A financial dispute between an NRI and local associates in Chilakaluripet has spiralled into a legal and social media controversy, prompting Palnadu district police to register multiple cases and issue a stern warning. Palnadu District Superintendent of Police (SP) Kanchi Srinivasa Rao cautioned that defamatory remarks targeting public officials and police personnel would attract strict legal action. Addressing a press conference on Monday, SP Srinivasa Rao stated that Ravi Muralimohan, an NRI from Chilakaluripet, owns Sai Karthik Centre, a commercial establishment in the town. Several local individuals reportedly contributed financially to the project. Disagreements over financial transactions led to confrontations near the shopping complex, prompting multiple complaints and subsequent police cases. The dispute escalated after Muralimohan allegedly began posting videos on social media, making serious accusations against the police and administrative system. SP Rao revealed that Muralimohan had filed seven petitions in the High Court, of which three had been dismissed. He asserted that NRI status does not exempt one from legal accountability and warned of legal action if baseless allegations continue. The police have initiated an inquiry into the circulated videos. If found defamatory or in violation of laws, action will be taken in accordance with due process. SP Rao reiterated that social media misuse to malign public servants or mislead the public will not be tolerated. The police have urged all parties to resolve disputes through legal channels.

Gadwal: District Superintendent of Police (SP) T. Srinivasa Rao, IPS, has instructed police officials to take concrete steps to control property crimes and initiate special measures to prevent road accidents in the district. On Thursday, the District SP chaired the monthly crime review meeting at the conference hall of the District Police Office, where he reviewed case registrations and investigations across all police stations. During the meeting, SP Rao thoroughly examined the number of cases registered in the previous month as well as the pending Under Investigation (UI) cases. He emphasized the need for transparent and speedy investigation of these cases. He gave several instructions regarding the precautions to be taken during investigations and the importance of proper documentation. The SP also scrutinized data related to road accident cases in the district. He stressed the need for installing barricades in accident-prone areas and advised identifying and tracing vehicles involved in hit-and-run cases to ensure justice. He instructed teams to intensify vehicle checks across the district and strictly enforce Drunk and Drive regulations. Awareness programs should be launched through SHE Teams and cultural groups to educate drivers and the general public about traffic rules. SP Rao emphasized the need to extend these awareness efforts to all drivers within police station jurisdictions. Highlighting the importance of technology, he urged officers to familiarize themselves with the CCTNS 2.0 system and ensure that every case file is uploaded accurately into the system. To combat property-related crimes, the SP directed officials to gather intelligence about inter-state property crime gangs and focus on resolving related cases with special strategies. He called for an increase in beat patrols and proactive measures to prevent property crimes. He also instructed that each police station must have functioning CCTV cameras. Non-working cameras should be repaired immediately. Arrests of suspects in registered cases should not be delayed, and UI cases should be investigated fairly with timely submission of charge sheets to the court. Furthermore, SP Rao highlighted the importance of respectful behavior by police personnel at station receptions. He instructed that staff be regularly trained to interact courteously with complainants. Regular communication with court officials is essential to keep legal case records up to date.
