Kota Kinabalu: Seven major events have been lined up to liven up the official 74th birthday celebration of Sabah Yang Dipertua Negeri Sabah, Tun Musa Aman, scheduled for next month. Deputy Chief Minister II and Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam said preparations have been underway since early February through the Main Committee he chairs to ensure the events run smoothly. He said the highlight of the celebration will be the Parade and March-Past Ceremony at Padang Merdeka here, scheduled for June 21, with over 80 contingents from government departments, private agencies, NGOs, higher learning institutions and schools. 'We expect more than 10,000 attendees at the Parade and March-Past at Padang Merdeka, weather permitting. This will be followed by a prize-giving ceremony for the Parade March Competition. 'I call on all Sabahans, regardless of background, to come together and celebrate this occasion as a show of respect and affection for our State's highest leader,' he said during a press conference at the Ministry of Communications Integrated Complex, Monday. The official 74th birthday of the Yang Dipertua Negeri Sabah falls on March 30. Joachim added that several religious programmes will also take place, including thanksgiving prayers for the well-being of Musa, aiming to cultivate values of harmony and reflection among Sabah's multiracial and multi-religious communities. He said the public will be treated to a series of traditional performances, entertainment activities and interactive programmes to engage people from all walks of life. Deputy Chief Minister II Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam, who chairs the main celebration committee, said the programmes were carefully planned. Advertisement 'This year, we have seven main events, similar to previous years,' he told reporters after paying a courtesy visit to Musa at Istana Seri Kinabalu. The celebrations will kick off with a tea party for children with special needs on June 14, followed by Sabah Ethnic Day on June 15, featuring the State's diverse cultures. 'As the Governor represents all Sabahans, this event celebrates our unity,' Dr Joachim said. A tahlil will be held on June 19, while the official parade and State awards ceremony will be held on June 21, followed by a grand banquet in the evening. The Sabah Ethnic Day, to be held at the Sabah International Convention Centre, is expected to draw over 1,000 attendees, featuring nearly all of the State's ethnic groups. Deputy Chief Minister II Datuk Dr Joachim Gunsalam, who is also the chairman of the Main Celebration Committee, stated that related programs have been arranged to enliven the occasion. 'This year, we only have seven events or seven programs, which we hold annually. 'The first will be a tea party with special-needs children on June 14. 'After that, on June 15, we will hold Sabah Ethnic Day. We believe that Tun, as the Governor, is the umbrella for all the people of Sabah, so this event is to celebrate everyone in Sabah. 'Following that, on June 19, there will be a tahlil (prayer recitation) and thanksgiving ceremony. As usual, on June 21, we will hold the official parade ceremony, the Conferment of Sabah State Awards, Honors and Medals, and the State Banquet in the evening,' he told the media after paying a courtesy visit to Tun Musa at Istana Seri Kinabalu on Wednesday. He added that the Sabah Ethnic Day Celebration, scheduled to take place at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), is expected to bring together nearly all ethnic groups in the state, with an estimated attendance of over 1,000 visitors. Also present were Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing, Datuk Isnin Aliasnih, Kota Kinabalu City Mayor Datuk Seri Sabin Samitah and director of the Sabah Islamic Religious Affairs Department, Datuk Jumain Abdul Ghani.
