Perak targets 20 entrepreneurs to expand market abroad
TELUK INTAN: Perak aims to target 20 entrepreneurs in the state to expand their market by showcasing local products abroad throughout this year. State Women, Family, Social Welfare, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Committee chairman, Datuk Salbiah Mohamed, said her party, in collaboration with the Perak State Entrepreneur Secretariat (STeP), is always trying to bring entrepreneurs to participate in various expos and exhibitions abroad. She said that among the exhibitions or trade expos that Perak entrepreneurs will be participating in are the 'Brunei Consumer Fair 2025', 'World Expo Osaka 2025' and 'Fine Food New Zealand 2025', which will take place this month 'I always emphasise to the agencies involved to jointly help entrepreneurs or companies that have the potential to be taken abroad (promote their products) by solving the problems (constraints) they face. 'The state government is indeed very supportive of Perak entrepreneurs who dare to explore the global market which actually provides wider and larger opportunities and space and not just being too dependent on the domestic market,' she said. She told reporters after officiating the release of a container of cordial products from Syarikat Ameen Products Sdn Bhd to Mali, Africa, at its factory in the Light Industry Park here today. Meanwhile, Salbiah said one of the challenges entrepreneurs face in expanding their businesses or increasing product capacity is the lack of industrial parks in several districts of the state. 'When some of our entrepreneurs want to expand their products or markets, they face constraints in terms of size to expand their products. 'So, the state government sees the need (to develop industrial parks) by identifying suitable areas,' she said.

FRU crash: Additional aid to be announced
GOPENG: The Perak government will provide additional aid to the next of kin and personnel of the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) affected by the recent accident in Teluk Intan. State Women, Family, Community Welfare, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Committee chairman Datuk Salbiah Mohamed said that Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad would announce the aid in greater detail. 'The Menteri Besar has just returned (from an official visit abroad), and we will hold a state executive council meeting to determine the assistance that will be provided by the state government. 'Previously, emergency assistance of RM1,000 from the Social Welfare Department was given to all the next of kin and personnel involved in the accident,' she told reporters. In the incident that occurred at 8.50 am on May 13, nine FRU personnel were killed and nine others injured when the truck they were in collided with a stone-laden lorry on Jalan Chikus-Sungai Lampam, Teluk Intan, while returning to their base in Sungai Senam, Teluk Intan. Meanwhile, Salbiah said a total of 18 entrepreneurs from Perak would participate in the five-day Consumer Fair & Trade Expo 2025 in Brunei, starting June 25. She said the state is targeting RM1 million in sales during the exhibition, with products on offer including food and beverages, health and beauty items, handicrafts, dairy products and baked goods.

Perak Gov't Mulls Aid For Struggling M40 Households
IPOH, April 21 (Bernama) – The Perak government is looking into assisting struggling M40 (middle income) households, said State Executive Councillor for Women, Family, Community Welfare and Entrepreneur Development, Datuk Salbiah Mohamed. Salbiah said several medium- and long-term strategies are being considered to assist this 'ineligible but struggling' group. "Among them are productivity-based support through entrepreneurship development programmes, skills training, and access to digitalisation to boost household income, rather than solely relying on direct aid. 'In addition, through Targeted Subsidies and the Affordable Lifestyle Initiative, the State Government could also explore measures such as preschool education discounts, childcare subsidies, affordable essential goods purchase programmes (BAMM), or specific discount cards that benefit M40 families more flexibly,' she said. She said this when winding up debate on the motion of thanks for the Royal Address at the State Legislative Assembly sitting here today. Salbiah added that strategic partnerships with the private sector and government-linked companies are also being considered to offer high-impact community service programmes such as mental health support, household financial management, and debt management assistance. 'The issues faced by the M40 group must be viewed within a broader and more inclusive framework. The State Government will conduct a comprehensive review of the proposals and refine existing aid policies and programmes to be more responsive, especially for households that are increasingly 'slipping' from a stable status into a group that requires attention,' she said. -- BERNAMA
