Coronation Street star Samia Longchambon is tempted to do Celebrity Big Brother

Coronation Street star Samia Longchambon is tempted to do Celebrity Big Brother The 'Coronation Street' actress felt encouraged to do the ITV reality show after her soap co-star Jack P. The 'Coronation Street' actress felt encouraged to do the ITV reality show after her soap co-star Jack P. Shepherd - who won the 2025 series of the programme - dubbed it as a "great experience". ‌ The star, who plays Maria Connor on the cobbles, is quoted by Best magazine as saying: "Jack said he had a lot of fun. ‌ "He told us, 'If anyone wants to do it, I'd say go ahead. It's a great experience.' "So, I'd never say never, but at the moment life is pretty busy so I'm just trying to pace myself." Samia has two children - daughter Freya, 15, with her ex-husband Matt Smith and son Yves, nine, who she has with current husband Sylvain Longchambon after they met when paired together on 'Dancing on Ice' in 2013 - and revealed that her eldest will only watch 'Corrie' if Maria is involved in scenes with her on-screen son Liam Connor, who is played by Freya's friend Charlie Wrenshall. Article continues below The 42-year-old actress said: "Freya tends to watch if I've got scenes with Charlie Wrenshall who plays my son Liam, because they're really good mates. "She's more interested in what Charlie is doing than what I'm doing! "Yves isn't that bothered. He's more interested in watching cartoons and YouTube." ‌ This year marks 25 years since Samia first stepped onto the famed cobbles of Weatherfield - the fictional town in Salford, Greater Manchester, where 'Coronation Street' is set - and she never imagined her job on the ITV soap would have lasted for a quarter of a century. Asked what she would have thought if someone told her back in 2000 that Samia would be on the show for 25 years, she admitted: "I wouldn't have believed them. "I'd have been happy, but it would have been overwhelming to know that and quite incomprehensible. ‌ "I never take this job for granted. "I'm grateful to be here." Samia's character has been involved in plenty of catfights over the years on 'Coronation Street', but the actress got hurt in a scene that saw Maria embroiled in a fiery fight with Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) after Kate accidentally yanked her hair. Article continues below Samia told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "I remember Tracy threatened to rip out Maria's hair extensions. I don't have hair extensions, but Kate Ford (Tracy) properly went for it, pulling my hair. "We do have good fight coordinators, but I am not going to lie, that did hurt."

Corrie star issues 'emotional' update after soap undergoes major change

Coronation Street star Samia Longchambon has spoken out on the departures of her fellow cast members Sue Cleaver and Helen Worth, admitting it's the 'end of an era' Coronation Street star Samia Longchambon has confessed that the soap's recent significant change marks "the end of an era". With nearly 65 years of captivating audiences, Coronation Street has solidified its place as a British television institution, having drawn in over 20 million viewers per episode during its peak. ‌ Two of the show's longest-serving and most beloved stars, Helen Worth and Sue Cleaver, have been instrumental in its enduring success, boasting an impressive combined 75 years on the iconic cobbles. ‌ In a poignant turn of events, both soap legends have decided to bid farewell to Coronation Street within months of each other. Helen, 74, was the first to announce her departure last June, expressing her gratitude for working alongside "fantastic actors, directors and a brilliant crew". She reflected: "The past 50 years have flown by and I don't think the fact that I am leaving has quite sunk in yet." ‌ Following Helen's emotional Christmas Day exit, Sue Cleaver joined her in leaving the show to explore new projects. A fan favourite since her debut, Sue's departure has been deeply felt, reports Belfast Live. In an interview with Prima magazine, their former co-star Samia Longchambon shared her thoughts on the recent goodbyes: "Saying goodbye to Helen Worth (Gail Platt) after her 50 years was really emotional. But I completely agree with her that she deserves a rest now." ‌ Meanwhile, she noted that the exit of Sue marked a poignant moment as they had both started on the show in the same month. She expressed: "It was weird saying bye to Sue (Cleaver, who played Eileen Grimshaw), too, because we actually joined the same month and her dressing room was next door to mine, and then Mikey North moved into it." Acknowledging the departure of two key players, she conceded that it represented a significant turning point for the soap: "So it did actually make me think, 'God, that's the end of an era'." The much-anticipated final appearances of Eileen on the beloved programme will broadcast next week, culminating after distressing events including the loss of her sister, Julie Carp (portrayed by Katy Cavanagh). Eileen decides to start anew, accepting Jason's invitation to settle in Thailand with him and invest in his business endeavor. Catch the latest drama in Coronation Street as it continues on ITV tomorrow night (May 30) at 8pm.

Samia Longchambon opens up about heartbreak of losing her dad to cancer and reveals touching connection between him and her husband Sylvain

Samia Longchambon has opened up about the heartbreak of losing her dad to cancer in 2009 - and the touching connection he shares with her husband Sylvain. The Coronation Street, 42, who has played Maria on the show since 2000, spoke to Prima Magazine for their July issue. Samia has been open about how losing her father devastated her, and she has now shared that she believes he 'sent' her Dancing On Ice star husband Sylvain to her. She said: 'It wasn't love at first skate for me and Sylvain [they met in 2012 on Dancing On Ice]. I was too busy learning to move around on the ice to be thinking about anything like that! Things between us didn't start until months after we first met. 'I think my dad sent Sylvain to me. My dad died in 2009 and French was his second language. He loved France, and his sister Samia, who I'm named after, lives about an hour away from where Sylvain grew up in Lyon. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'Once we got to know each other, I was like, "Oh, this is weird". There were so many common threads with him that I was like, "I feel like my dad just sent you".' Elsewhere in the interview, Samia opened up about how she deals with online trolling as someone in the limelight. She said: 'I've had to deal with loads of trolling over the years. It's usually when Maria's caught up in something that's not great and people forget that I'm not this character! It's not nice – this industry can be hard if you're not thick-skinned, and I'm not. 'So I have to discipline myself with social media – reading mean comments can feel like picking a scab; you don't want to read it, but then you do end up reading it, and it ruins your day. 'Historically, there's been a couple of times I have responded to trolls. Weirdly, though, I find that most people back down and apologise when you call them out. "Sorry, I didn't mean it like that," they might say. 'And I'll think, "Well, I'm a human with feelings, and it hurts – but it's fine, let's move on".' Samia and Sylvain exchanged vows in a fairytale wedding in August 2016 in front of 500 close family and friends at a sprawling country manor, with Samia's daughter Freya as a bridesmaid and their son Yves as a groomsman - three years after their first meeting on the set of now-defunct Dancing On Ice. But the first months of their romance were overshadowed by Sylvain's acrimonious split with Hollyoaks star Jennifer Metcalfe, who he also met on the ITV show. The Frenchman controversially ended their two-year relationship during a tense phone conversation on Christmas Day 2012 after admitting he'd fallen for Samia, leaving the actress devastated. Samia previously dated co-star Will Thorp - but ended their two-year relationship in December 2012, shortly after signing up for the show. The pair started dating in January 2011 - just a few weeks after Samia left her husband Matthew after six years of marriage and one month after Will - who played builder Chris Gray in the soap - left his wife Samantha, the mother of his two children. However, both Samia and Will insisted they didn't start dating until their marriages were over. Three years after the inauspicious start, Samia said of the wedding: 'I was so happy I had to stop myself from running down the aisle!' The pair added one more addition to the family in 2020 with pup Ralf - who Samia subs her 'third child'. And admitting the whole family fell in love with Ralf, she has previously explained that her husband 'wouldn't do without him', adding 'he's soft as anything with Ralf'. Before their marriage, Samia was wed to property developer Matt Smith from 2005 to 2011. The July 2025 issue of Prima is now on sale.
