Sammy Guevara Isn't Bothered By Criticism Over AEW's ‘Four Pillars' Debate
Sammy Guevara appreciates being one of AEW's 'Four Pillars,' but he isn't bothered if some fans believe he shouldn't be on that list. Guevara, MJF, Darby Allin and Jack Perry were given the collective name of the 'Four Pillars Of AEW.' This was an homage to All-Japan Pro-Wrestling's 'Four Pillars of Heaven,' but it also designated them as AEW's foundation (and future). Advertisement Fans have debated who should and should not be on that list, and some have suggested that Britt Baker should be called the 'fifth pillar.' During a televised promo, CM Punk even suggested that Baker should replace MJF. The overall argument resulted in a healthy discourse, but it also drifted into tribalistic territory at some points. No matter who you feel should be on the list, Guevara says it's an honor to be included. He also says replacing a name on the list doesn't take away from the original four's accomplishments. 'It's almost like the Mount Rushmore [debate]. People have their own opinions of who we'd want to be. I didn't come up with this thing. I just feel like the four guys that were mentioned for it were the original four young guys, especially during the pandemic, we really busted our ass in front of nobody. [We were] just trying to help this place grow. And I understand there's new faces now and all these new things. And that's okay if people feel like, 'Hey, these are our pillars now. Whatever.' It's like that's cool. It doesn't take away from what us four have done in the past.' Sammy Guevara doesn't let criticism get to him as much now Despite seeing the honor as a positive overall, Guevara admits that he used to let criticism bother him too much. He credits becoming a father as a way to ignore negativity and just focuses on himself and his family now. Advertisement 'It used to bother me a lot, what people would say. Because I felt like I was always looking for outside validation. Ultimately, I just needed to find validation with myself. I feel like I found that. And a lot of people's comments, it's water off the back, it doesn't stick. I felt like maybe becoming a dad helped with that. 'Yeah, so and so is saying this.' Or, 'This person said this.' It's like, 'Man, who cares?' I have a daughter I can go and hang out with. And we can go to the park and have fun. [That's] kept me focused on what's really important in life.' Guevara is focused on what he can control. He can't control his storyline bookings or people's opinions, but he's focused on what he can do himself in the moment. 'In the beginning, I felt like I needed everybody to feel like I belonged, because I didn't feel like I belonged. But today,' Guevara added, 'I know where I belong. And as long as I know that, that's what's important.' The Hurt Syndicate's Double Or Nothing Challengers Confirmed
The Hurt Syndicate have officially found their opponents for AEW Double or Nothing. During Saturday's episode of AEW Collision, The Sons of Texas — Dustin Rhodes and Sammy Guevara — took down Action Andretti and Lio Rush's The CRU. Advertisement With the win, Rhodes and Guevara have officially earned a shot at the AEW World Tag Team Championships at Double or Nothing. For The Hurt Syndicate, they'll look to continue their winning ways. For Rhodes and Guevara, they'll be trying to notch another mark in their careers. AEW Double or Nothing will take place on May 25, 2025. The event will be held at the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona. The event will be highlighted by the finals of both the Men's and Women's Owen Hart Foundation Cup Tournament.
