PENAMPANG: A recent joint operation by Sabah Police Contingent's Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department and Penampang police resulted in the seizure of various drugs worth RM119,400 and the arrest of two local men. Both suspects, aged 31 and 49, tested positive for various drug substances. Penampang District Police Chief Supt Sammy Newton said the raid on an entertainment premises yielded 5.727gm of ecstasy powder, 32.58gm of ketamine, 18 Erimin 5 pills weighing 6.23gm and 11 ecstasy pills weighing 5gm. 'The first suspect tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine, while the second tested positive for methamphetamine, amphetamine and ketamine,' he said, Thursday. Background checks revealed that one of the suspects has a previous criminal record related to drug offences, indicating possible repeat involvement in narcotics activities. Both men are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries severe penalties including the death sentence or life imprisonment of 30 years, along with a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane, on conviction. Advertisement The case is also being investigated under Section 15(1)(A) of the same Act, which provides for a maximum fine of RM5,000 or imprisonment up to two years if found guilty. The suspects are currently under remand as investigations continue. Penampang district police chief Supt Sammy Newton said the joint operation between the Sabah Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department and Penampang district police narcotics division uncovered suspected ecstasy powder (5,727g), ketamine (32.58g), Erimin 5 pills (6.23g), and ecstasy pills (5g). 'Urine tests found both suspects positive for multiple drugs, including methamphetamine, amphetamine, and ketamine,' he said, adding that one suspect has a previous drug-related record. The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment, and Section 15(1)(a) for drug use. KOTA KINABALU (May 29): Two men were killed while another was injured after a four-wheel drive vehicle plunged into a ravine near Gunung Emas, Penampang yesterday. According to Penampang District Police Chief Superintendent Sammy Newton, police were informed of the incident along Jalan Penampang-Tambunan at about 9.40pm. 'Preliminary investigations found that the 54-year-old driver was heading from Tambunan to Penampang, when his vehicle lost control, skidded and plunged into a deep ravine, about 60 metres from the road. 'The driver and a 49-year-old passenger were pronounced dead by medical officers at the scene, and the bodies were sent to Hospital Queen Elizabeth 1 for forensics. Another passenger, 29, was injured and sent to the hospital,' he said in a statement. The case is investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. The police are requesting witnesses to assist the investigation by providing information to investigating officer Inspector Saparia Ladoni at 019-8095133. Sammy also advised the public to always be careful on the road and to not spread any images or videos of the incident on social media to protect the sensitivity of the victims' families.

The suspects, aged between 64 and 74, were caught during Ops Dadu, a crackdown led by the Penampang District Police's Criminal Investigation Division. The raid took place around 4.30pm after authorities received a tip-off about the illegal activity. Police seized four live roosters, three cages, a makeshift cockfighting ring, and RM319 in cash. Several other individuals managed to escape during the operation. The three suspects apprehended during the illegal cockfighting and gambling raid. KOTA KINABALU (May 26): Police have arrested three local men in connection with illegal cockfighting and gambling activities in Penampang yesterday. Penampang District Police Chief, Superintendent Sammy Newton, said the arrests were made during an Ops Dadu raid conducted by the Penampang District Police Headquarters at Kampung Sarapung, Kolopis. Acting on a tip-off, a team from the IPD Penampang Criminal Investigation Department (CID) raided the location around 4.30pm and apprehended the suspects, aged between 64 and 74. Several other individuals managed to flee the scene. During the raid, police seized four live roosters, three cages, a makeshift cockfighting ring, and RM319 in cash believed to be linked to the illegal gambling activities. All the suspects were taken to the Penampang IPD for further investigation. The case is being investigated under Section 21 of the Animal Welfare Enactment 2015, which provides for penalties including fines and imprisonment upon conviction. Police urged the public to continue sharing information about such illegal activities to help safeguard community safety and wellbeing.
