Samsad, who came from Chogoria village in Islampur in North Dinajpur, had been working at the factory for one-and-a-half months. Samsad was being turtured allegedly for stealing a mobile. But his father had said that ahead of Eid, Samdas had asked the factory owner for his wages, which were due, and that had led to this torture. Shahenshah had been on the run ever since the video went viral, police said. Earlier, three other persons involved in the incident were arrested. The boy's family claimed he was falsely accused of stealing the cellphone. "He was tortured without any reason. We have lodged a police complaint," a family member told reporters. pti

Accused of mobile theft, 14-year-old hanged upside down, administered electric shock
Kolkata/Malda: A 14-year-old boy, who worked at a jeans factory in Maheshtala, South 24-Parganas, was reportedly hanged upside down, administered electric shock and thrashed apparently for stealing a mobile. But his father said Samsad Ali's fault was he had asked the factory owner for his wages. Samsad has reportedly since been missing. Residents of Maheshtala claimed that before the incident, they had seen a group, including Samsad, searching for a mobile near a pond and that the boy was crying. The video of the boy's torture, which was widely circulated, reached his family at Chogoria vilage in Islampur, North Dinajpur, following which, his father lodged a police complaint. Md Dil, Samsad's father, said the factory owner, Md Shahenshah, had approached him to employ his two sons, Samsad Ali and Ansar Ali. As the family struggled to make ends meet, Dil reportedly sent his sons to work at the factory and the two boys worked there for nearly one-and-a-half months. With Eid approaching, Dil had asked Samsad to ask Shahenshah for his due wages. This allegedly infuriated Shahenshah, who accused the boys of mobile theft. Samsad was then tortured, and the video reportedly showed his hands tied with an electric cable. In his complaint at the Islampur police station in North Dinajpur, Dil said the accusation of mobile theft was baseless. "A few days ago, I had advised Samdas to ask the owner for his wages. I never imagined it would have such a brutal consequence," said Dil. Following the complaint, police visited the factory to find it locked and the owner, Shahenshah, absconding.
