Hemant govt must take initiative for OBC reservations in edu institutions: Cong
1 2 Jamshedpur: The ruling alliance party, Congress, has appealed to the Hemant Soren govt to take the initiative for the Other Backward Classes (OBC) reservations in educational institutions across the state. Making the appeal, state Congress in-charge Koppula Raju said Article 15 (5) of the Constitution allows the state to make provisions for the betterment of socially and economically backward classes, concerning their admission to educational institutions. While speaking at the Samvidhan Bachao Rally at Sakchi on Sunday, the Congress leader said the state govt must take the initiative without any delay. Raju also said party leader Rahul Gandhi played a pivotal role in driving the Narendra Modi govt at the Centre to give its nod for the caste census. "From the streets to Parliament, Rahul Gandhi fought for the rights of the OBC community which forced the Modi government to bow before the legitimate demand and agree to a census of the backward classes," Raju said, addressing the crowd at the Sakchi parking zone. Stating that protecting the Constitution is the responsibility of all Indians, Raju further said, "Congress has taken the lead but it is the responsibility of all citizens to participate in the campaign to uphold the democratic values, principles and constitutional provisions." During the rally, the party passed a resolution praising the armed forces for their commendable feat in 'Operation Sindoor'. The bravery and courage demonstrated by the soldiers ensured a strong military response to Pakistan, he added. Speaking on the occasion, state Congress president, Keshav Mahato Kamlesh, said the Modi govt failed to align with the spirit of the Constitution, claiming that it was grossly undermined by the Centre with its activities in the last 11 years. The rally was necessitated to make the common people know how the Modi govt is violating the Constitution, Kamlesh said. Top party leaders of the state attended the rally organised by the East Singhbhum district Congress committee.

Kharge claims Modi got intel before Pahalgam terror attack
New Delhi: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi cancelled his visit to Kashmir as he received an 'intelligence report' three days before the Pahalgam terror attack. Kharge was addressing the Congress' 'Samvidhan Bachao Rally' in Ranchi. His comments provoked a sharp reaction from the BJP, which accused him and his party of trying to weaken the country. Referring to the terror attack that claimed 26 innocent lives, Kharge claimed, 'I was informed, and it's published in the media as well, that three days before the attack, an intelligence report was sent to Modiji, following which he cancelled his Kashmir visit.' 'When you were informed about the situation, why didn't you communicate the same to your intelligence team, security, Kashmir police, and the Border Security Force (BSF), and ensure the safety of civilians?' Kharge said. Reacting to the statement, BJP national spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said, 'What has happened to Kharge sahab? What all is he saying? On one hand, in the meeting, they say we are standing with the nation, and on the other, they are trying to weaken the country. When he knows that tensions are high, it is a matter of national security, at such a time, to say about the Prime Minister that he did not go to Kashmir because he knew an attack was going to take place — can any statement be more irresponsible than this? That too, by the president of the largest political opposition party?' he said. Kharge claimed that while the Modi government had accepted its 'failure' in the all-India meeting, they should have also taken responsibility for the lives that were lost. He said he will support the government in its fight against Pakistan as he has a responsibility as a citizen but added that the government isn't bothered about people losing their lives. Caste census The Congress president also spoke on the BJP's stance on the caste census. He said that for the adivasis of Jharkhand, the Congress will push the government to include the Sarna column in the census, as it is a religion revered by Gandhi, Ambedkar, and Buddha.

PM cancelled J&K visit due to intel: Kharge; BJP hits back
Ranchi: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi cancelled his Kashmir visit after 'receiving an intelligence report' three days before the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22. He also alleged that the Centre should be held accountable for 'not reinforcing' security arrangements in Kashmir to protect people. Mallikarjun Kharge reiterated Congress's support to the government in 'whatever strong decisions it takes against Pakistan in the fight against terrorism'. (ANI Photo) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) hit back at Kharge, with party's Jharkhand unit chief Babulal Marandi saying the Congress chief's criticism was intended to 'lower the morale of security forces'. To be sure, the Prime Minister cancelled his visit to the region, scheduled for April 19, on account of bad weather. Addressing the Congress's 'Samvidhan Bachao Rally' (save constitution rally) in Ranchi, Kharge said the Union government accepted 'intelligence failure' during an all-party meeting called after the Pahalgam attack. 'I was informed, and it's published in the media as well, that three days before the attack, an intelligence report was sent to Modi ji, following which Modi ji cancelled his Kashmir visit. I also read this in a newspaper,' Kharge claimed. 'When an intelligence report says that it is not proper to visit there for your security, why did you not inform your security, intelligence, local police and border force to protect people? When you got the information, you cancelled your programme but did not send more forces to protect tourists there,' the Rajya Sabha leader of Opposition alleged. News reports, including one in HT, have cited unnamed security officials saying that they had some intelligence about a possible attack targetting people in Srinagar during the PM's visit, but not later, and not at Pahalgam. Twenty-six people, including 25 tourists, 24 of them Hindus were killed in the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22. Referring to the terror attack, Kharge alleged: 'There was an intelligence failure. The government acknowledged it and said they will resolve it. But if they were aware of it, then why wasn't anything done?' The Congress president, however, reiterated his party's support to the government in 'whatever strong decisions it takes against Pakistan in the fight against terrorism'. Senior BJP leader Babulal Marandi hit back at the Congress chief. 'Kharge's attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi is intended to lower the morale of security agencies. He made this comment at a time when the fight against terrorism and Pakistan is at a decisive stage,' Marandi told reporters. The leader of Opposition in Jharkhand assembly added that the Congress should not be 'indulging in politics at a time when the entire country stands with PM Modi in the fight against terror.'

The govt also has admitted its intelligence failure in an all-party meeting. According to news reports, Prime Minister Modi received intelligence inputs about the attack three days before the attack and he cancelled his visit to Kashmir. The question is, if the govt had information about the attack, why were precautionary measures not taken to secure civilians' lives? The govt has failed to protect the people of the country," Kharge said at the further said, "Congress will wholeheartedly support and assist the govt if any action is taken against terrorism and Pakistan because it's a matter of the country's security. It's the victory of every Congress worker and a defeat for PM Modi." During the Congress regime, many places were shaken by serial bomb blasts and incidents like the 26/11 attack also took place. Under Modi's leadership, India has taken decisive actions like the surgical strikes, including the Balakot airstrike, demonstrating a strong defence against terrorism," Marandi added.
