IIM Lucknow welcomes 643 students in PGP flagship and doctoral programmes with 3 day induction; 30% women in diverse cohort
MUMBAI: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Lucknow inaugurated its academic year by welcoming 643 students into its flagship Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP), Post Graduate Programme in Agribusiness Management (PGP-ABM), Post Graduate Programme in Sustainable Management (PGP-SM), and the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme. The commencement was marked by a comprehensive three-day induction programme that began on 24 June 2025. This year's batch reflects a growing diversity at the institute. Women make up 30% of the cohort, while 50.7% of the students have an engineering background, and the remaining 49.3% come from non-engineering disciplines. Notably, 32% of students in the PGP and 68% in the PGP-ABM programmes are fresh graduates. The inaugural event was graced by Ananth Narayan G, Whole Time Member at the Securities and Exchange Board of India and an alumnus from the Class of 1993. Nearly half of IIM Lucknow's 2025 batch comes from non-engineering backgrounds
The IIM Lucknow has officially begun its new academic session for 2025, welcoming 643 students across its prestigious postgraduate and doctoral programmes. The new batch brings in a rich mix of academic backgrounds, with a nearly equal split between engineering and non-engineering students. This is a departure from the usual trend of a majority of management students coming from engineering to research by QS-IGAUGE, a large share of management (MBA/PGDM) students in India have an engineering background. At top institutions like the IIMs, around 75% to 80% of the student intake consists of engineering graduates. Of these, nearly 30% to 35% are alumni of premier engineering institutes like the IITs and reflects a long-standing trend in Indian education, where engineering is commonly viewed as a stepping stone to a management career offering wider professional opportunities. But this year, IIM Lucknow has recorded a reversal of the trend. In the new academic year, 50.70% of students are from engineering backgrounds and 49.30% from non-engineering disciplines, highlighting a strong emphasis on academic diversity. Cyber fraud racket busted, kingpin among 2 arrested
Varanasi: The cyber crime police in Varanasi on Sunday arrested two members of an interstate cyber fraud gang, including its kingpin, for duping people under the guise of offering business franchises of reputed companies. Producing the arrested duo before reporters, DCP (Crime) T Sarvanan said that the arrested accused have been identified as Sanjeet Singh (35) and Krishna Shaw, both residents of Kolkata. The police recovered 12 mobile phones, a laptop, multiple SIM cards, Rs 15,430 in cash, Rs 5.83 lakh frozen in a bank account, and a customer data diary from their possession. During investigation, it was revealed that Sanjeet Singh was the mastermind behind the operations. The racket came to light after Anil Kumar Singh, a resident of Bankat village in Lohata, filed a complaint alleging that cyber fraudsters had duped him of Rs 14 lakh on the pretext of offering a franchise of Adani Cement. Once a potential victim showed interest, gang members would reach out using the collected leads and share forged documents, including letters of intent and approval letters, to gain the victim's trust. They would then demand payments under various pretexts such as registration fees, security deposits, and GST charges, which were transferred to accounts appearing to belong to the said companies. Police said the collected funds were later distributed among the gang members.
