This Bharatanatyam Version Of Isha Malviya's Shaky Has Dhanashree Verma's Heart
Last Updated: Dancer and choreographer Anuradha Iyengar's video of Shaky with six other women combining Bharatanatyam with energetic freestyle moves has stood out. Singer Sanju Rathod has found a winning formula with his latest song, Shaky, which has broken records and won fans' hearts. Since it was dropped in April, the song's popularity has stayed strong and many have shared dance videos on Instagram. Amid all the performances, dancer and choreographer Anuradha Iyengar's video with six other women combining the traditional Indian dance form Bharatanatyam with energetic freestyle moves has stood out. Social media users couldn't stop admiring their dance for its synchronised steps and smooth movement. Shaky's Classical Twist The song, which originally stars Bigg Boss 17 fame Isha Malviya, is a mix of Marathi and Rajasthani folk along with hip hop and Afro beats. But the Bharatanatyam twist has impressed many. Each step is done with ease, but one special moment, when they strike Shah Rukh Khan's famous pose, has been praised by the majority. Taking to Instagram, Anuradha wrote, 'Shaky Shaky, apne style mein. (In our style)." The quirky version made Dhanashree Verma hit the like button as well. Fans Can't Stop Praising the Performance Reacting to the post, a user wrote, 'Super cool dance moves, loved everything about this reel." Another shared, 'You girls rocked it. I am watching this on repeat mode. What amazing choreography and performance." 'Bharatnatyam & this song! Such a unique, cool and beautiful combination," a comment read. An individual stated, 'This song was composed for you and your tribe only. Superb." Another mentioned, 'Wowww, never imagined this version of dance on such a different kind of song, kudos girl,s you all rocked it." One more added, 'Loved the way you kept the trademark pose of Shah Rukh Khan." Shaky's Journey Speaking about blending different beats in Shaky, Sanju Rathod, in an earlier interview with The Rolling Stones India, explained, '[It's] a space where folk and pop, traditional and contemporary, could merge into something entirely new. So honestly, fusion was always around me growing up. He instinctively sang a few lines from an old Banjara folk song that had a strong Rajasthani feel. We recorded it, processed his voice to sound like a choral female section, and suddenly, there was this hauntingly beautiful folk layer in the track." The singer's love for folk music and pop sounds comes from spending a lot of time on YouTube while growing up. But his interest in hip hop began after going through a breakup in college. He shared that the girl he was dating at the time was a huge fan of Yo Yo Honey Singh. After their relationship ended, Sanju felt motivated to become a well known artist. That's when he began writing Hindi songs, inspired by Honey Singh's hip hop style. Before Shaky became a hit, Sanju Rathod first gained attention with Gulabi Sadi, which was released in February 2024. 'This is a massive win for Marathi as a language,' said Sanju, who hails from the Banjara community. 'While we have our own dialect, Marathi has been close to my heart. I feel deeply grateful for the love I've received here.' Rathod emphasized the untapped potential of Marathi in the mainstream music space. 'My goal is to make Marathi travel beyond Maharashtra by fusing it with Hindi, English and global sounds. Music should connect people, and Shaky proves that language is a bridge, not a barrier,' he added. After all, Shaky, his fourth song to have crossed 100 million views on YouTube alone, has become the Number 1 song this week on YouTube's weekly list of Top 100 Music Videos Global. With this he has beaten the likes of Rose and Bruno Mars' APT and Ed Sheeran's Sapphire. Sanju Rathod Talking to us, he says, 'Challenges badh gaye hain. Of course I feel good, that all of this is happening with Marathi music, aisa hua nahi tha kabhi. Back to back hits dena ek artist ke liye bahaut bada task hota hai.' Does he place a lot of importance on the numbers his songs fetch though? Like Shaky, written, composed and performed by Sanju, with music production by G-Spark, has notched up 3.4 million reels on Instagram so far. He quips, 'Aisa nahi hai ki pehle main achhe gaane nahi banata tha. But logon ko mere baare mein pata hi nahi tha. Dimple, one of my songs, first went viral, then Bappa, and that's how people got to know about me. My audience has increased, that's how I look at it. Every artist wants to make a good song which goes viral. As the artist grows, the numbers increase. I also am attentive towards what my Marathi audince wants. I don't focus on just making music which gets the numbers but rather one which my listeners will like. Numbers follow.' Sanju shares that Gulabi Sadi will soon be featured in a Bollywood film, 'I got a lot of calls after that song from filmmakers and composers. I think the same might happen with Shaky. Ek chhote se gaaon se aaye artist, jo sapne dekhta tha aise, uske liye yeh sab bada hai. Shayad kahin na kahin I have achieved that.'
