Police seek public help to find downtown stabbing suspects

Santa Fe police are asking for the public's help in identifying suspects in a downtown stabbing. Police responded to a reported stabbing early Sunday morning near the 100 block of Galisteo Street, Deputy Chief Ben Valdez wrote in a news release. There, officers found a 39-year-old victim with an apparent stab wound who reported going to a downtown bar where three men robbed and stabbed him during a fight. The victim was transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition, Valdez wrote. A search of the immediate area did not result the suspects' capture, but officers found surveillance footage showing the three men reported by the victim to be involved in the attack, Valdez said. The three suspects were: * A man reportedly carrying a knife, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, tan pants, and red and black shoes. * A man wearing an NBA-style jersey over a black long-sleeve shirt featuring the number 21 or 81, dark sunglasses and light jeans. * A man wearing a dark shirt, black baseball cap, green jacket and dark pants. "The Santa Fe Police Department is seeking assistance identifying the three suspects," Valdez wrote. If you have any information regarding this incident, Santa Fe police ask that you contact Detective Manuel Romero at 505-955-5287.

Gunshot detection technology could be coming to Santa Fe

SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – Albuquerque police claim gunshot detection technology has made a big difference in helping officers find suspects, fast. Now, another major New Mexico city says it's ready to make that same investment. 'It's very valuable. It's an officer safety tool, it's a life-saving tool,' said Lt. Jimmie Montoya of the Santa Fe Police Department. 'If we don't have the tools, it makes us very difficult to for us to do our job,' continued Lt. Montoya. For years, officers have relied on 911 callers' descriptions, but those calls can be inaccurate if they're even reported at all. 'This specific technology can give us the location of the shots and so we can use this technology to approach safely for officers and our detectives,' emphasized Montoya. Using microphones or 'acoustic sensors' to record neighborhood sounds, ShotSpotter is designed to analyze that sound in near real-time and then quickly alert police about where gunshots are coming Fe is looking to install the tech in a $350,000-one-year pilot program. 'It does cost a decent amount of money, but if we're saving lives, I believe it's it's going to be very beneficial!' said Montoya. If city councilors approve it, police are looking to focus on two neighborhoods with a higher level of reported gun crimes, including midtown near Saint Michael's Drive and on Airport Road near Cerillos. The proposal could be introduced for possible city council action in the coming weeks. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
