Sapthami Gowda: Women characters in Thammudu will make female audiences happy
Sapthami Gowda, who achieved pan-India fame with her appearance in Kantara, will soon be making her Telugu debut with Thammudu. The action-drama, starring Nithiin, will hit theatres on July 4. Ahead of the film's release, Sapthami interacted with media to talk about her working experience in Thammudu. Talking about her role in the film, Sapthami stated, 'My look here may resemble my Kantara look, but my character Ratna is very different. She brings fun in an otherwise serious storyline. My role is impactful, even if not lengthy.'

Strong women characters in ‘Thammudu' will make female audiences feel proud
Sapthami plays the character of Ratna, a vibrant young woman from a fictional village named Ambaragodugu. 'Ratna is a unique character. She's lively, humorous, and brings a fresh energy to the film,' Sapthami said. 'She's also a big fan of Pawan Kalyan. Some people may find my look similar to 'Kantara', but Ratna's personality and journey are completely different.' The role came with its own challenges. 'After 'Kantara', I got a call from director Sriram Venu. I did a look test in Hyderabad, and once that went well, they handed me the dialogue version. They also asked me to learn horse riding, which I practiced for three to four hours every day. We shot in the rocky terrains of Araku, which made it even more demanding. But I'm happy with how the scenes turned out.' According to Sapthami, she was the first actor to be cast for the film. 'Director Venu garu always said he enjoyed writing Ratna's character the most. Though my screen time isn't very long, the character has depth and importance. I believe 'Thammudu' will earn me recognition for this role.' While 'Thammudu' shares its title with the iconic Pawan Kalyan film, Sapthami admitted, 'I know about Pawan Kalyan garu's 'Thammudu' and how successful it was. Venu garu explained the significance of the title. I haven't watched the full movie yet, but I will definitely watch it before our release.' What truly excites Sapthami is the strong representation of women in the film. 'In most movies, female characters are often shown just dancing or singing with the hero. But in 'Thammudu', we fight alongside the hero,' she emphasized. She elaborated, 'Laya garu plays a strict officer. One of the characters, Gutthi, drives a bus in the film and even learned bus driving for the role. Myself, Varsha, Ditya, and Swasika all have action scenes. These aren't filler roles—they are crucial to the story. I'm confident that women in the audience will feel proud when they see how powerfully we are portrayed.' Along with action and drama, the film has a romantic angle as well. 'There's a sweet love story between Nithiin's character and mine. It begins in our teenage years and matures over time. By the end of the film, audiences will be emotionally invested in seeing us unite.' 'Thammudu' is mounted on a grand scale, and Sapthami urges audiences to experience it on the big screen. 'You can't get the same feeling watching it at home. The visuals, sound, and emotion are meant for the theatre. If you've seen the trailer, you already know how massive this film is.' After 'Kantara', Sapthami has been choosy about her projects. 'I love doing commercial films—like Rashmika's role in 'Pushpa', which I really liked. I got several offers after 'Kantara', but many weren't exciting. That's why I haven't been seen much recently.' She concluded, 'Right now, I'm working on two Telugu films and also have projects in Tamil and Kannada. I want to work across all languages. If the roles are exciting, I'm ready to take them on.'

It's been three years since, and the action drama is finally set to hit screens on July 4, 2025. When asked about her role in Thammudu, Sapthami says that she plays a village girl and has a key role in the narrative. 'I have a lot of solo scenes in Thammudu and did not have much scope to shoot with other stars in the film. You will be surprised to know that I shot for only two hours with Nithiin and hardly had time to interact even with him,' adds Sapthami. The trailer has caught the attention of many, and Sapthami is shown mouthing a rustic village slang, which is quite difficult for a non-Telugu girl. The clips in the trailer showcase Sapthami speaking on the radio and giving instructions. When asked about the same, Sapthami refused to reveal more and stated that one needs to watch the film to know more about her role. However, Sapthami states that acting in a Telugu film has been an enriching experience for her, and she would love to do more Telugu films in the future. Sharing screen space with Varsha Bollama and Laya Thammudu has two other popular heroines, Varsha Bollama and Laya, in key roles. When asked about the same, she says, 'Though there are multiple heroines, everyone is playing an important role in the film. My role brings a lot of depth to the film, and I am super excited to see how the Telugu audience receives me in Tollywood,' says Sapthami. Sreeram Venu, who last made the super hit film Vakeel Saab with Pawan Kalyan, has helmed this film, which has music by Ajaneesh Lokanath. Thammudu did not have much of a buzz, but ever since the trailer came out, the hype for the film is back again, and Sapthami says that the content in Thammudu is quite strong and will surely stand out.
