SIBU (July 30): Four players will represent the state at the upcoming 34th National Closed Snooker Championship to be held in Kuala Lumpur.
Newly-crowned Sarawak Closed champion Edmund Bong from Kuching will spearhead Sarawak's challenge.
The other three players are Franklyn Ee, Tan Ching Yong and Max Heng.
Ee was runner-up after losing to Bong in the final of the recent Sarawak Closed held in Sarikei.
Tan and Heng, both from Kuching, were the losing semi-finalists.
Bong will be looking to make more history after he became the first Sarawakian to reach the last 16 at the 32nd edition. He eliminated national player and tournament favourite Lim Kok Leong with a sensational 5-4 victory in the last 32.
Meanwhile, about 100 players took part in Sarawak Closed which was organised by Sarawak Billiards Snooker and Sports Federation (SBSSF) in collaboration with Sarikei Club Cue Repok.
Tournament director Elvis Wong said the high number of players taking part was testimony that the sport is gaining popularity especially with so many new faces taking part.
Dato Sri Huang Tiong Sii, the federal Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Sustainability, gave away the prizes.
