In preparation for Independence Day celebrations on August 15, 2025, the traffic police in Gurgaon and Faridabad have imposed strict restrictions on the movement of heavy vehicles to ensure smooth traffic flow and enhanced security. Heavy vehicles will be barred from entering Delhi from Gurgaon during two periods: from 5 pm on August 12 to 1.30 pm on August 13, and from 5 pm on August 14 to 1.30 pm on August 15. The police have directed drivers to use the KMP Expressway for travel to other states or districts and to park vehicles only in designated areas to avoid disruptions. Similarly, the police have announced a complete ban on heavy vehicle entry into Faridabad and towards Delhi from 10 pm on August 12 to 2 pm on August 13, for the full dress rehearsal, and from 10 pm on August 14 to 2 pm on August 15, for the Independence Day celebrations. The restricted routes include Badarpur Border, Prahladpur, Karni Singh Shooting Range, Surajkund Gol Chakkar, Durga Builder, Mangar Chowki Naka, Dera Fatehpur, Sector 30 Cut, Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, Sikri, NH-19 (Palwal Road), and Elson JCB Chowk, apart from other major and minor roads. in Faridabad, exemptions have been granted for vehicles carrying essential supplies such as milk, fruits, vegetables, food items, medicines, and medical supplies, as well as fire services, ambulances, police, emergency service vehicles, and those transporting petrol, diesel, or CNG. No entry for two-wheelers, ricks, tractors on key e-ways in Gurgaon

Gurgaon: The traffic police have restricted slow-moving vehicles on Delhi-Jaipur highway from Sirhaul border to Kherki Daula toll plaza and on Dwarka Expressway from Kherki Daula to Delhi border. The restrictions — which follow directions from NHAI — requiring listed vehicles to use service roads took effect on Wednesday. NHAI's directions were aimed at preventing accidents on the two major expressways. On Wednesday, the traffic police initiated a challaning drive against violators and installed new warning and sign boards. Traffic police said bikes, scooters, tractors, e-rickshaws, three-wheelers, e-carts, multi-axle hydraulic trailers, quadricycles and non-motorised vehicles such as cycles are prohibited on these high-speed highways. DCP (traffic) Rajesh Mohan said, "These are high-speed corridors where extra caution is necessary. The speed limit on National Highway NH8 and the expressway is higher and the speed of the aforementioned vehicles is relatively lower, which poses a risk of accidents and a constant threat of unfortunate incidents." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 경고: 이 게임 진짜 중독성 쩔어요. 지금 해봐! The sign boards have been installed at key locations to inform restricted vehicles not to use these highways. We will start issuing challans rigorously," the DCP said. Another police officer said the arrangement followed Punjab and Haryana high court's decision. "Someone filed a public interest litigation seeking restrictions on slow-moving vehicles that cause accidents on high-speed corridors. After the concerned court asked NHAI to restrict their entry, a notification regarding the same was recently released. Upon being informed of this, traffic police initiated awareness drives and restricted the movement of these vehicles from June 25," a traffic police officer said. The move will increase traffic volume on already overburdened service lanes, for which authorities are considering infrastructure enhancements. Rohit Sharma, a resident, said the authorities first need to widen the service roads before restricting slow-moving vehicles on national highways. "Now there will be mad traffic on these service lanes," Sharma said. Even when the two-wheelers are banned on the national highways, there are fewer checks causing frequent accidents. Two men heading for work died after their bike crashed into a truck from behind on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway on June 16 morning in Faridabad. Although two-wheelers are banned on the expressway due to speed differences with heavy vehicles, bikes and scooters are often found on the speedway in the absence of proper signboards or deployed police at entry points. On April 10, a motorcyclist died after being hit by a car near Sector 64 in Faridabad. While Dinesh died, his friend Dharmender suffered grievous injuries as both fell 15 feet from a flyover onto the road below. In Gurgaon, a Delhi Police head constable died and five others were injured on June 21 when a Rajasthan Roadways bus overturned while attempting to avoid hitting a car that had suddenly entered the Delhi-Jaipur highway from a service road. The accident occurred at the notorious Panchgaon Chowk, which has reported at least 10 deaths in the past three years.

"To prevent such incidents, city police regularly conduct awareness drives and enforce traffic rules strictly," said an officer. The special campaign, launched to ensure disciplined lane driving, was headed by DCP (traffic) Rajesh Mohan along with ACP Satyapal Yadav. The police also organised awareness sessions — named Jagrukta Pathshalas — for truck drivers, school bus drivers, company employees, and auto drivers to educate them on the importance of lane discipline. They added that consistent enforcement and public education are helping reduce road mishaps and improving the overall traffic system in Gurgaon. "Our goal is to streamline traffic flow and reduce accidents by promoting responsible driving behaviour," said police officials. Last year, the city reported 1,024 road accidents that led to 478 deaths and 706 injuries. The alarming rise in the number comes along with the figures for the first four months of the year — 2.4 lakh. Among the other major violations in May were 9,254 speeding challans, 3,058 drinking and driving challans, 579 challans for using mobile phones while driving, 2,605 red light jumping penalties, 4,655 lane change fines, 20,780 wrong side driving challans, 7,529 triple riding challans, 16,102 challans for zebra crossing violations and 5639 penalties for not wearing seat belts.
