Deion Sanders Gives Three-Word Update Amid Unknown Health Complications originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders stepped away from Boulder to attend to another health issue. Advertisement Sanders, 57, is recovering at his estate in Texas with assistance from sons Deion Sanders Jr. and Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie safety Shilo Sanders. Coach Prime's current medical complication is unknown. He plans to discuss it when he returns to Boulder. However, Deion Sanders' medical history is quite extensive since he sustained blood clots in his legs in 2021. That led to the amputation of his left big toe and a second toe on the same foot. Coach Prime also underwent a procedure in 2023 to address the blood clots, which resulted in the sides of his left calf being removed. Furthermore, Sanders lost 14 pounds recently and claimed 'what I'm dealing with is on a whole 'nother level' during an interview with former NFL cornerback Asante Samuel on his 'Say What Needs to be Said' podcast. Deion Sanders mystery illness: Does Colorado coach have diabetes? What we know
Coach Deion Sanders is dealing with an unknown health issue, which is the reason behind his absence from Colorado University's annual summer football camp. On Sunday, his son Deion Jr. shared a health update on 'Coach Prime", as Sanders is popularly known, via a YouTube livestream. According to Deoin Jr., the coach was 'feeling well,' USA Today reported. 'He'll tell y'all soon enough what he is going through, what he went through,' Deion Jr. added. Commenting about the Colorado Buffaloes coach's return to Boulder, Deion Jr. said he did not know when that was possible. 'I'm waiting until my dad leaves. When he leaves, then I'll go. Until then, I'm gonna sit here with him,' he explained. The Buffaloes will play against Georgia Tech on August 29. The Colorado head coach had attended the university's summer camps in 2023 and 2024. The promotional material at the institute's athletics website featured Sanders at events this year as well, including youth football camps on June 10 and 11 and a specialists camp on June 18, according to the NY Post. The news about Sanders' health issues comes on the back of his absence from the public eye recently. The former footballer has not given many interviews since his son Shedeur Sanders' slide in the NFL draft. Sanders had cancelled his keynote speech at the Foundation for Sickle Cell Disease Research's annual symposium on Sunday, June 5, citing an 'unavoidable last-minute scheduling change.' Earvin "Magic" Johnson served as the keynote speaker in his absence. In May, the former San Diego Chargers player addressed his absence at events on Asante Samuel's 'Say What Needs to be Said' podcast. 'I've done no media. I've done nothing for a minute. So coming on with you is something. I ain't been in front of nobody for a minute. I lost about 14 pounds. I'm coming back, but I needed this,' Sanders explained. Coach Deion Sanders has been active on social media. On June 10, he dropped a motivational post on X, saying, 'Let's attack today with all we have. Let's give today everything we got. Let's not save ourselves for tomorrow knowing tomorrow ain't promised. Let's go all out baby. I believe in you & you believe in what God has bestowed upon you. Let's go!' Take a look at his post here: The Colorado Buffaloes coach underwent surgery for blood clots in his left leg in 2023. He has undergone 10 surgeries on his left leg as of 2023. Sanders faced severe circulation issues in his legs, leading to the amputation of two toes on his left foot and partial removal of his left calf. In 2023, blood clots forced him to miss Pac-12 media day and required two surgeries, with risks of further amputation. The Colorado coach has undergone 12 surgeries, including procedures for blood clots in both legs in 2023 and toe straightening in July 2023. However, there is no credible source to confirm that Sanders has diabetes. The former San Diego Chargers player won two Super Bowls in his career. The moniker stems from his high school days, when he was an all-state player in basketball, football and baseball. During one game, he finished with 37 points to his credit, leading to the name Coach Prime.

Deion Sanders ‘hurt' over ‘foolish stuff that went on' before Shedeur Sanders' NFL draft fall
Deion Sanders is hurting for his boys. After son Shedeur fell to the fifth round, being selected 144th overall by the Browns in the 2025 NFL Draft, and his other son, Shilo, went undrafted, Sanders opened up to former Patriots and Eagles star defensive back Asante Samuel on the 'Say What Needs to be Said' podcast on his frustration about anonymous attacks that may have impacted their reputations, particularly with Shedeur. 'You have no idea, man,' Deion said. 'And stop lying. My kids are built for everything. We had two TV shows. … we've always been in front of the camera, so they know how to navigate. They know how to handle themselves. You're not gonna catch them in no foolery or no mess. They're not gonna do that whatsoever.' Advertisement 'It hurt,' Sanders later added. 'But the bible says God uses the foolish things to confound the wise. There was some foolish stuff that went on, but that gave them something that they needed. . . . That edge that Tom (Brady) had, it gave them the edge that you had, it gave them the edge that I have. Folks said we weren't gonna be nothing. But we had to prove that. It gave them the edge that they needed. Both of them.' 3 Deion Sanders talks about Shedeur Sanders' draft day fall. YouTube Say what Needs to be Said Sheduer had previously said that his father was '99 percent' to blame for the online hate that surrounded him, although a firm story has to be released of why he fell all the way to the fifth round. Advertisement The only detailed story on Shedeur's draft day fall surrounds the Giants. Although the Giants worked out Shedeur before the draft in late April, they used their No. 3 overall pick on Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter before trading back into the first round to take Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart at No. 25. Shortly after the draft, Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer reported that Shedeur missed mistakes that the Giants purposely put into an interview that was included during an offensive install. 3 Shedeur Sanders is in came with the Browns after falling to No. 144. AP Advertisement When called out by the Giants and coach Brian Daboll, Shedeur was 'pissed' and the Giants wound up passing on him altogether. 'When you sit up there and say something like he went into a meeting unprepared, like, dude, Shedeur Sanders? Who has had six different [offensive] coordinators, who has still functioned and leveled up every time we brought somebody new in, and you're gonna tell me he was unprepared?' Deion said on the podcast. 'You're gonna tell me he had on headphones? Anybody who knows my son understands he's a professional. He's gonna go into a meeting with headphones on? Y'all, come on now.' 3 Shilo Sanders went undrafted to the Buccaneers. AP Advertisement Shedeur joined a crowded quarterbacks room with the Browns that includes Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel. Starter Deshaun Watson is anticipated to miss the season while recovering from an Achilles injury. Meanwhile, Shilo signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent. Shilo wasn't projected to be anything higher than a Day 3 pick.
