Andhra Pradesh eases industrial norms, halves parking mandate to woo investors

The Andhra Pradesh government has unveiled sweeping reforms to industrial regulations, cutting parking requirements and relaxing land-use norms to improve ease of doing business and attract fresh investments. S. Suresh Kumar, Principal Secretary of the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department, said the State has halved the parking mandate for industrial areas from 20% to 10%, bringing it in line with Telangana's norms for standalone industrial units. For layouts approved by the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC), parking will be provided through common pooled facilities at the planning stage, eliminating the need for individual units to create separate parking if shared capacity is adequate. Other key changes include reducing side and rear setbacks, scrapping minimum plot size requirements for industrial purposes, and relaxing or removing height restrictions to encourage vertical construction. Officials said these measures aim to optimise land use, lower compliance costs, and remove bottlenecks that have hindered production, particularly for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The reforms follow a comparative study of parking norms in other States and align with the Centre's 'Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment 2025-26,' which encourages rationalised norms for industrial and commercial projects.
