Adam Collard reveals 'unbearable pain' forced fiancée Laura Woods to call an ambulance after he lost feeling in his leg as he gives update on terrifying back surgery
Adam Collard has revealed he was in 'unbearable pain' prior to his back surgery earlier this week. The Love Islander, 29, took to Instagram on Wednesday as he shared snaps from his hospital bed while sharing his pride over his fiancée Laura Woods ' TV return following her maternity leave. And now the fitness star has shared the true extent of his injury as he confessed the pain was so bad he could barely walk and even lost complete feeling in his right leg. Taking to Instagram Adam, who runs Sculpt gym in Ashington, gave fans a health update as he explained: 'Last Wednesday I was driving home for 30 minutes after a full day at work, and by the time I got home I could barely walk into the house. 'The pain was unbearable to the point I was biting and screaming into my pillow. I couldn't find comfort and after an hour I lost the feeling in my right leg all the way down to my toes. 'Not able to lift it from the hip. Which was scary and Laura had to ring an ambulance.' The fitness star has shared the true extent of his injury as he confessed the pain was so bad he could barely walk and he was left 'screaming into his pillow' Adam explained the pain had begun with a 'tweak' which had caused him a 'stabbing sensation' in his right glute and knee. Despite working with physios and osteopaths he revealed he saw 'no progress' and it reached the point he couldn't even sit in a chair without pain after he developed sciatica. He added: 'Driving the car was a solid 9/10 pain. Even feeding Leo in bed was unbearable because of the slump position of the lumbar spine. 'Not ideal when you have a newborn. Which got to me mentally as well as physically'. Adam explained he then began receiving spinal injections and nerve root blockers which seemed to be working until he went down hill last Wednesday when Laura had to ring the ambulance. After an MRI the star was told his disc had ruptured and was compressing his sciatic nerve. He explained: 'The disc was ruptured and almost fully compressing the sciatic nerve, hence the loss of feeling in my right leg. 'After this, we opted for Lumbar Decompression and Discectomy operation to shave the discs down and release the nerve.' Now on the road to recovery he told fans: 'Surgery went well, I've already got the feeling back in my leg now which is great now it's just sore from the wound on my back. 'My surgeon said that once he cut in he realised the discs were very bad, One of them had cracked so it was pushing into m sciatic nerve.' Ready to put in the work in the gym to rebuild his strength he added: 'Now the real work begins, a slow build up, full recovery and being smart around my training for the next 12 months and probably forever in some cases. Thank you to those closest to me helping out over the last few months, my friends and family, and all of you lot and your messages reaching out. 'Now, it's comeback SZN...' Adam's surgery has coincided with his fiancée's return to TV after the pair welcomed their first child three months ago, having started dating in October 2023. Laura was seen hosting TNT Sports' coverage of the Champions League as she fronted the broadcast giants ahead of Barcelona and Inter Milan's clash in the competition's semi-finals. But, as she was joined by the familiar faces of Steve McManaman and Owen Hargreaves in the studio, her partner watched Laura's stint on TV from his hospital bed. In his pictures, Adam was seen dressed in a white hospital gown as he lay in bed watching the mother of his child on the TV. Alongside his posts, he penned: 'Back Surgery. Completed it mate. Now watching my girl from the bed on her first day back. 'Proud of her after only 13 weeks getting back into the mix and I can't tell you how much she's been my rock throughout this whole injury, process and the last 6 months in general on all fronts. @laurawoodsy'. Adam also posted a throwback picture of himself two years before his surgery and showcased his very chiselled physique. The couple announced they had welcomed their son and revealed their baby boy's name back in January. In a sweet post at the time they shared pictures with the newborn and wrote: 'Leo Ernie Collard, our boy,' alongside a love heart emoji. One heartwarming black and white snap saw the couple hold the little one in hospital as they shared a kiss in front of a sign that read: 'We're going home today.' In another, new mother Laura was glowing as she cradled her bundle of joy while enjoying a cup of tea. Reality star Adam looked every inch the doting dad as he settled down for a nap with little Leo, before the couple took the baby home. The couple, who have been together since 2023, included an array of pictures of their baby's first moments in the world, including meeting their French Bulldog Lulu. Laura took to her Instagram Stories at the time to write that she was 'smitten' with their new arrival.

Love Island's Adam Collard rushed to hospital in an ambulance after excruciating injury and ‘losing control of his leg'
LOVE Island hunk Adam Collard has revealed fiancée Laura Woods called an ambulance after he collapsed in agony from a brutal back injury. The reality star, 29, shared how the terrifying ordeal left him unable to walk or even feel his right leg after months of pain. 5 5 5 Adam, who now runs Sculpt gym in Ashington, opened up about the ordeal in a brutally honest post saying the pain left him 'biting and screaming into a pillow'. His panicked girlfriend Laura, 37, a TNT Sports presenter, called 999. Adam, who recently became a dad with Laura, said: 'Last Wednesday I was driving home for 30 minutes after a full day at work, and by the time I got home I could barely walk into the house. 'The pain was unbearable to the point I was biting and screaming into my pillow. I couldn't find comfort and after an hour I lost the feeling in my right leg all the way down to my toes. 'Not able to lift it from the hip. Which was scary and Laura had to ring an ambulance.' The gym boss revealed he'd battled a 'yo-yo' of agonising symptoms, including stabbing pain in his glute, a shaking knee, and sciatica that left him unable to sit and drive. The injury had been building for months but he pushed through the pain. He told fans: 'Too long ago I got a tweak that sent another level of pain and discomfort. A stabbing sensation in my right glute and my knee would shake uncontrollably in extension.' After working with physios and osteopaths, Adam was told it was likely a disc issue causing sciatica. He went on: 'The plan was to go back to basics, remove stress and strengthen weak points… but I saw no progress. This was extremely depressing — I couldn't sit in a chair without pain.' But things got so bad the fitness pro couldn't even help Laura with night feeds for their newborn, Leo. He said: 'Driving was a solid 9/10 pain. Even feeding Leo in bed was unbearable because of the slump position of the lumbar spine.' After trying everything from rehab to nerve blocker injections, Adam had an MRI and was told his disc had ruptured and was compressing his sciatic nerve. He underwent urgent lumbar decompression and discectomy surgery and says he's now on the road to recovery. 'The surgeon said once he cut in, he realised the discs were very bad. One of them had cracked and was pushing into my sciatic nerve.' Adam admitted the ordeal had taken a toll both physically and mentally. He added: 'It got to me mentally as well. I was trying to be a new dad, work in the gym, and couldn't even get my socks on.' He also shared some pre and post-surgery snaps of himself in a hospital gown. Adam found fame on Love Island in 2018 and returned again in 2022, but now spends his time running his North East gym and supporting Laura with her high-profile presenting gigs across TNT Sports and ITV. 5 5
