Groom takes own life one day after ‘perfect' honeymoon
An American woman has detailed her unimaginable heartbreak after her husband took his own life just one day after the newlyweds returned from their 'perfect' honeymoon. Isabel Coles, 32, and Christopher, 28, tied the knot in September 2024 after meeting on a dating app nearly two years earlier. Given the couple's love for music, they spent their honeymoon at a beachfront music festival in New Jersey. 'We were so insanely happy and in love,' Mrs Coles said. 'We went to the Festival for our honeymoon — it was the perfect way to celebrate our marriage.' However, a day after the couple returned home from the festival, Mrs Coles noticed her army veteran husband acting 'weird'. Christopher and Isabel Coles. 'He went downstairs and tried to get out. I stood at the front door and asked what was going on. 'He got out and started heading towards the woods. Mrs Coles turned around to get some shoes on so she could follow him into the woods, but as she got upstairs, she realised Christopher had taken his gun. When she ran back outside, Christopher was nowhere to be seen. Mrs Coles immediately called his family, asking them to help search for him and tragically, 24 hours later, Christopher's father found him dead in the woods. 'I was shocked, I was devastated,' she said. Isabel said Christopher never showed any signs of struggling with his mental health. Credit: Kennedy news 'He was great during our honeymoon, we had a great time.' She said Christopher never showed any signs of struggling with his mental health. 'My husband was very successful and very driven and motivated and he was such a good person, so looking back I think, 'were there signs?' 'He was very hard on himself, always pushing himself. There were no signs, it did take me really off guard.' In a heartbreaking twist, Mrs Coles was left shocked when a bouquet of flowers from Christopher were delivered on Valentine's Day. When she contacted the florist to ask about them, she was informed he had ordered the flowers back in September because he knew he would be deployed on Valentine's Day. Mrs Coles is now on a mission to raise awareness about mental health and is set to run the Chicago Marathon in October to raise funds for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
