Cowboys Headlines: Injuries hit OL, TE rooms; Stephen Jones dismisses 'Pay Micah' chants
Monday evening saw Cowboys fans go on a bit of a rollercoaster regarding a key piece of the 2025 offensive plan. The news on Tyler Guyton's injury, however, turned out not to be as bad as originally thought. We'll give you the latest on his expected recovery timetable as well as what the Cowboys may do in the interim at left tackle. We'll also update you on the other offensive lineman to go down over the weekend as well as the rising tight end fighting for a backup spot. And what's the common denominator among three of four defensive backs brought in for Monday workouts? We'll explain. Later, though, it was learned that the left tackle had suffered a less-severe injury; the ACL was still intact. With no surgery required, Guyton should be out just four to six weeks. If all goes well, he could still be available Week 1. Then news that his injury wasn't as bad as feared had everyone doing a quick reversal. During Sunday's practice, the 32-game starter broke a bone in his neck and is now expected to miss two to three months. "We want to pay Micah, too. He's got to want to be paid, too." Doctors found a malignant tumor during routine tests, and the "high recurrence rate" discovered helped inform the Hall of Famer's decision. Sanders's medical team used pieces of his own intestines to construct a new bladder, and he'll continue to be monitored moving forward. Shaquill Griffin's new Seahawks jersey number revealed
The Seattle Seahawks officially reunited with cornerback Shaquill Griffin towards the end of June. Griffin, originally a third round selection by Seattle during the 2017 NFL draft, has made his way back to the Emerald City on a one-year deal after four years and four teams away. However, Griffin will be sporting a somewhat new look in his second stint. When he was last with the Seahawks, the Pro Bowler wore the No. 26 jersey, which is currently occupied by running back Zach Charbonnet. This time around, Griffin will be wearing a number with immense history in Seattle... No. 24. There is a considerable portion of the 12th Man that would like to see No. 24 retired permanently by the Seahawks organization. Historically, Seattle has only retired the jerseys of those who went into the Pro Football Hall of Fame primarily as Seahawks - such as Steve Largent, Walter Jones, Cortez Kennedy, and Kenny Easley. But Marshawn Lynch is a different case, as he was truly the face of the organization's rise to national prominence during the Pete Carroll era. His unique personality and bruising playing style has made him a cult classic in the Pacific Northwest. There is of course the Ken Griffey Jr. connection to the number as well, who also wore No. 24. There are just as many Seattle sports fans who would like to see the No. 24 retired city-wide across all the professional teams in the region. But for now, No. 24 will once again take the field in Seattle, and hopefully there's still a little magic left in it for a legacy Seahawk like Shaquill Griffin.

Sam Darnold debuts at No. 72 on NFL's Top 100 players list
The annual slow reveal of the NFL's Top 100 players list continues, as players 80-71 have been announced. Making the cut for the first time in his career is none other than Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold, who makes his debut at No. 72 overall. Even though the list is based on accomplishments from the previous season, which Darnold obviously spent with the Minnesota Vikings, he is now the second Seahawk to make the 2025 edition of the list. He joins defensive end Leonard Williams, who appeared earlier on the list at the No. 99 spot. Darnold's 2024 season was nothing short of sublime, and perhaps one of the greatest surprises we've ever seen from a quarterback. Originally signed to the backup role, Darnold was thrust into the spotlight when first round rookie JJ McCarthy was lost for the season with a knee injury sustained during training camp. From there, Darnold had a Cinderella-esque year for the ages. He set career-highs in passing yards (4,319), passing touchdowns (35) and wins as a starter (14). To say he was more than deserving of his spot on the Top 100 list is an understatement! The Seahawks will certainly be hoping Darnold can replicate his success last year on his new team.

Seattle Seahawks fans may want to look away. This offseason, one of the biggest moves in the league was Seattle sending star wide receiver DK Metcalf to the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for a second round pick (which the Hawks used in a package to trade up to draft safety Nick Emmanwori). Now Metcalf is in the Steel City, and we are getting our first glimpses of him in a Steelers uniform. Given the unfortunate and distasteful history between these two franchises, seeing a popular former Seahawk in the black and yellow could churn more than a few stomachs at lunchtime. When Metcalf was traded to Pittsburgh, his classic No. 14 jersey number was already in use by fellow wide receiver George Pickens, causing Metcalf to go with No. 4 for the first time. Pickens has since been traded to the Dallas Cowboys, which means No. 14 is back up for grabs. However, it's clear Metcalf is sticking with No. 4 for the time being. Advertisement For the first time in his career, it is possible Metcalf may have an offense designed around getting him the ball exclusively. He always had to share targets with the likes of Tyler Lockett and Jaxon Smith-Njigba, not to mention Seattle's consistent run-first philosophy. Metcalf will be the clear No. 1 option in Pittsburgh for an aging Aaron Rodgers to target. While Rodgers is far from the quarterback he once was at his peak, he can still sling the ball well. It's entirely possible Metcalf will have a strong year statistically. Seattle travels to Pittsburgh for a Week 2 showdown against the Steelers.
