Eubank Jr rival makes Conor Benn rematch prediction - "His balance has gone"

Eubank Jr's former foe has weighed in on how a potential rematch with Benn will play out amid talks of the British boxing stars clashing again later this year Boxer Liam Smith is backing Chris Eubank Jr to defeat rival Conor Benn for a second time amid talks of a potential rematch. Eubank Jr and Benn met in London last month and put on a 'Fight of the Year' contender at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. After an epic back-and-forth encounter, Eubank Jr would go on to get his hand raised via unanimous decision. Both men signed contracts for a two-fight deal - and it seems likely a sequel could come sooner than expected. ‌ Eddie Hearn spoke to Sky Sports about the prospects of the next fight, revealing: "I know September 27, back at Spurs, is a date that he [Saudi financier Turki Alalshikh] has put forward and proposed. We're ready, really. We signed the contract for two fights. Conor's just desperate to run it back. He feels like he's going to improve a lot going into that fight. [It was] his first fight in 14, 15 months, at 160lbs. Look, they provided us with just a night we'll never forget in so many ways. And both fighters deserve so much credit. We'd love to run it back." ‌ Smith - the last fighter to beat Eubank Jr - has offered his verdict on how the rematch will play out. Reflecting on the first encounter, he told Seconds Out: 'The two of them showed a lot of balls. They were f***ed but still slugged it out and it ended up a good fight.' Smith insisted that Eubank was hurt by Benn's power during the fight, but also pointed out that 'The Destroyer' felt the impact too. "I think he looked hurt a few times in the fight. I think his balance looked questionable. But I think Conor was hurt a couple of times, he might tell you he wasn't, but I think he was hurt," Smith said. "They were both out on their feet at stages through tiredness. It was a gruelling fight for the two of them. A better fight to watch than I thought it was gonna be." While some are hesitant about a rematch, Smith is eager to see Eubank and Benn go head-to-head once more. "Yeah I would like to see the rematch. I think if Chris has a fight with Conor it'll end up a good fight [again.] But I think Conor's got even more of a chance next time around, cause like I said I think Chris is one or two fights from being done. His balance has gone a little bit." When pressed for a prediction, Smith leaned towards Eubank: "Probably Chris, size-wise he's too big for him, wasn't he? When he wanted to be I think he was too big for him." After suffering the first defeat of his professional career against Eubank Jr, Benn is eager to go straight into an immedoate rematch and insists he won the fight by at least a point. "I am ready to train now. I've got the heating on in the gym, I have got my sauna ready for the recovery after," he said on Good Morning Britain. "As soon as this interview is done, I am straight in the gym. I live for this, it's what I do, it's who I am There is a rematch clause. We will see. We have got plenty of options but obviously we have both agreed to the rematch... It is a bitter one to swallow this. Out of all people, losing to a Eubank. It's hard! Personally I thought I nicked the fight by a round. It could have gone either way... What a great fighter, what a great dancing partner. So credit to Chris for him and his win, but I want that revenge."

Tyson Fury's reasons for defeats by Oleksandr Usyk emerge in new revelation

The former two-time heavyweight world champion went head-to-head with Oleksandr Usyk on two separate occasions last year, losing both times Tyson Fury 's nutritionist, Greg Marriott, has voiced his concerns over the 'Gypsy King's' training regime for his two fights with Oleksandr Usyk, suggesting that the camps were 'overcomplicated'. The pair first went head-to-head last May - with the Ukrainian going on to win via split decision. Seven months later and the two stars were back in the ring against each other. Despite the strong start, Fury was unable to level the series and suffered yet another defeat on points. ‌ Fury made several changes ahead of the second fight, including altering his team and bulking up by an extra 20lbs. Recently his father John Fury criticised his son's preparations and insisted that the 36-year-old should have been in better physical condition to have the best chance of dethroning the heavyweight king. ‌ Just weeks after the second contest, Fury shocked the world by announcing his retirement. A few months on from the rematch, the Brit's food expert Marriott believes the 'Gypsy King' should have defeated Usyk had preparations have been better. In an interview with Seconds Out, he said: "I think what has happened in that camp, they overcomplicated things. "Instead of making him super fit, they made things too complex. He should have never have lost against Usyk. It shouldn't have even been close, because he is that good. But my voice will only go so far in camp. I just think for that camp, I didn't like what I saw. I just thought this is getting overcomplicated and it came to fruition in the ring. "He should have just been super fit and made to go do his thing. The standard needed to go up for Usyk. That camp for me was 60 per cent for Fury for the rematch. And he only just come unstuck." Despite hanging up his gloves, Fury has been seen keeping in shape, fuelling rumours of a return to the ring. This week, the former two-time world champion teased an imminent announcement after the heavyweight star hinted at a potential return to the ring. In an Instagram video with his father Fury Sr, the 'Gypsy King' said: "Business meeting today, dad. En-route. Incoming, incoming." The video showed the duo in high spirits, fuelling speculation among fans eager for a Fury vs Anthony Joshua showdown. The video came just a few days after he shared footage from the gym with coach SugarHill Steward, where after a light sweat session, he teased: "Just in the gym, happened to bump into somebody you might know."He then panned over to a smiling SugarHill who chimed in with: "You know what time it is!" Wrapping up the story, Fury dropped a cryptic message: "You know what's coming." ‌ Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn recently commented on Fury's online activity with some frustration during a chat with Sky Sports: "I feel like Tyson Fury's a bit of a tease really, isn't he? I mean, all we see on Instagram is him," he remarked. 'Even today, after leaving the press conference, I saw his post – him in hand wraps, sparring a solid 12 rounds. "Why do this to us? What does it mean? Is this some sort of mind game or is he gearing up for a comeback? Just let us know either way. Put us out of our misery. Look, AJ's got to have a little keyhole surgery on his elbow. He'll be back post-September. It's there, isn't it? Let's just make it happen. "When we talk about big fights, this fight is the biggest fight, not just in British boxing, in world boxing, by a mile. And I just feel like it's time. This is the moment. We're reliant upon Tyson Fury. We're ready to go, but obviously he's got to be comfortable. He's got to be up for it. He's a competitive so-and-so, and I just know in his mind, he'll want to dance with Anthony Joshua. So, dust those shoes off and let's make it happen."

Tyson Fury reunited with dad John days after 'knocked out' claim

The pair reunited just days after Fury Sr claimed he helped his son avoid getting knocked out by Oleksandr Usyk during their showdown last May Tyson Fury met up with his father John days after the latter claimed his son could have been knocked out by Oleksandr Usyk in their first meeting. John Fury, 59, claimed his advice prevented his son being stopped by the Ukrainian last May. During the first showdown in Saudi Arabia, the 'Gypsy King' had a lot of success working the jab at the midway point of the undisputed dust-up. However, the tide turned heading into the championship rounds - and Usyk very nearly scored a knockout victory. ‌ That said, Fury held his own and managed to complete the 12 rounds before losing on points. Despite Fury Sr's recent comments, he was reunited with his son earlier today. The 'Gypsy King' took to Instagram after seemingly wrapping up a training session at the gym. Pictured alongside the former two-time heavyweight world champion was Fury Sr. ‌ Last week, Fury Sr admitted his son was a 'miracle man' to get out the ninth round with Usyk. He told Seconds Out: 'Well, if it wasn't for me in his corner he'd be knocked out. Simple as that. He was listening to the wrong instructions and got caught going to the left of a southpaw. I'm a southpaw, you don't go to the left on me because I'll catch you. 'He was listening to ill-advice, too many people in the corner and I'm his father, if it wasn't for me, he not only stayed in the fight, he won the 11th; he shared the 10th because his legs were gone in the 10th. He was a miracle man to get out the ninth round, but it was me who kept him in there. If it had been left to them, he'd have been knocked out.' In the same interview, Fury claimed his son's heavyweight titles were stolen from him against Usyk in a stunning rant against. 'He had them stolen off him, to be honest. 'What can you say? When somebody's paid you a shed load of money they seem to resent letting you stay champion as well… They probably didn't want to pay him the same amount of money again, probably couldn't afford to pay Tyson that same money again if they let him remain as champion.' Regarding Fury's future, the Brit shocked the world by announcing his retirement from the sport of boxing. That said, he seemingly looks set to make a retirement U-turn after his manager, Spencer Brown, confirmed the former world champion has bought a new pair of boxing boots. "Well, he has bought a new pair of boxing boots, so what does that tell you?" he told iFL TV. "I was with him the other day up in Scotland, we had a great time, he was happy, he had a couple of Guinnesses, and he does look in good nick. But he has bought himself a new pair of boxing boots and some new boxing shorts. You will know soon enough, won't you? He gave you a little bit of an appetiser. We will see [whether he returns], but all good things come when they are ready." Brown's comments come just days after Fury uploaded a short video in the gym alongside trainer SugarHill Steward. The 'Gypsy King', 36, who was sweating slightly after potentially wrapping up a workout, said: "Just in the gym, happened to bump into somebody you might know." He then shifted the camera towards the direction of an energetic and happy SugarHill - who replied: "You know what time it is!" The 'Gypsy King' had the last say before ending the story: "You know what's coming," he said.
