Pune bar sealed for serving alcohol to minors involved in vandalism; parents also booked

In a rare and stringent crackdown, the Sinhagad Road Police have sealed Nasha Bar for allegedly serving liquor to minors who were later involved in vandalising nearly 20 vehicles. The bar's owner, manager, and staff, along with the parents of the juveniles and others who aided the minors, have been booked under multiple sections of the law. Police have identified the booked as Sachin Kishan Gore, owner of Nasha Bar; Anil Vinayak Suryawanshi, manager; and Vinod Datta Kamble, bar counter staff. The three allegedly served liquor to the minors. Kalidas Devidas Naikwadi, who accompanied the minors to the bar and paid their bill, was also booked. Police have further registered offences against Dharma Sarode and Ashwini Khandare, parents of one of the juveniles, as well as Pandurang Umap, an autorickshaw owner who gave his vehicle to the minors to drive. Earlier, police arrested Sai Pandurang Umap and Raja More for assisting the minors in the act of vandalism. On Wednesday, Suryawanshi, Kamble and Naikwadi were arrested, while notices were issued to the parents of the minors. Three days ago, the Sinhagad Road area witnessed a spate of vandalism, in which a group of minors, accompanied by two adults, damaged around 20 vehicles. Investigations revealed that the juveniles had consumed alcohol at Nasha Bar prior to the incident. Police promptly invoked Section 77 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, which penalises those who supply intoxicating substances to minors. 'This is a landmark case in which we have not only sealed the bar but also booked the parents of the juveniles,' said Sambhaji Kadam, deputy commissioner of police (Zone III). 'Strict action is being taken against all who enabled the minors — from those in the hospitality sector to guardians at home.' Suresh Jaybhaye, sub-inspector, said, 'We have booked 10 people, including two minors. Of these, five have been arrested and the minors detained. Notices have been issued to the parents under the Juvenile Justice Act, which makes it the guardian's responsibility to prevent such wrongdoing.' According to the police, the minors not only consumed alcohol but also drove an autorickshaw before damaging the vehicles. A proposal to permanently cancel the bar's licence has been submitted. The bar owner, staffers, and others have been booked under Sections 75 and 77 of the Juvenile Justice Act for cruelty and negligence towards children, and under Section 199(A) of the Motor Vehicles Act.

Senator Veerapun Suvannamai, who chairs the committee, emphasized the desire for the Prime Minister to appear in person, though it is not mandatory. Senate panel invites PM Paetongtarn to clarify casino policy 'We want the Prime Minister to attend, but it's not an obligation. If she has prior commitments, she may delegate a minister to represent her,' said Veerapun. The committee also plans to invite several former national leaders to share insights and opinions on the matter. Those invited include former Prime Ministers Thaksin Shinawatra, Abhisit Vejjajiva, Chuan Leekpai, Srettha Thavisin, and Somchai Wongsawat, as well as former House Speakers Meechai Ruchuphan and Arthit Ourairat. These invitations reflect the committee's commitment to gathering comprehensive and diverse viewpoints to ensure a balanced and thorough assessment, said Veerapun. During the session on Thursday, the committee outlined its framework and established two subcommittees to assess various impacts of opening entertainment complexes that include casinos and online gambling in Thailand. Details are as follow: 1. Social and Legal Impacts Subcommittee Chaired by Senator Nipon Ekwanit, this group will examine societal and environmental consequences, urban planning, constitutional implications, national strategy alignment, and requirements for public referenda under Section 77. 2. Economic Impacts Subcommittee Chaired by Senator Sorachart Wichayasuwannaprom, this group will study potential economic impacts, investment, tourism, and employment opportunities related to the integrated entertainment complexes. 3. Definition of entertainment complexes The committee debated the most appropriate and transparent terminology. Several options were proposed to ensure public understanding and legal clarity. Ultimately, the term 'integrated entertainment complexes with casinos and online gambling' was selected for its comprehensiveness and alignment with draft legislation. 4. Legal considerations An initial proposal to form a separate legal subcommittee was rejected due to concerns it would undermine the importance of legal aspects in the casino debate. Legal matters will instead be covered under the Social and Legal Impacts Subcommittee. Discussions also touched on the political power dynamics that may affect future legislative efforts, with calls to consider constitutional protections. 5. Neutrality and timeline Chairman Veerapun stressed the importance of neutrality, stating, 'We must set aside personal opinions and remain as impartial as possible to hear all sides.' He emphasized that the committee has no predetermined conclusions and aims to provide well-rounded recommendations for both the government and the public. Although the original timeline allowed 180 days, the committee now aims to complete its report by the end of July 2025, ahead of the parliamentary session beginning in early July. Members expressed concern that the government may propose legislation before the study is finalized. 6. Public referendum The meeting also briefly addressed the need for public consultation and referenda. However, no concrete process has been outlined yet. 'There is still no decision on how this will be carried out,' said Veerapun, noting that further discussions are planned. - The Nation Thailand/ANN

Bengaluru sweet shop staffer arrested for recording video of woman in washroom

The Koramangala police have arrested a housekeeping worker of a sweet shop on the charges of recording a woman on his mobile phone while she was in the washroom on April 25, 2025. The victim, a 25-year-old private firm employee, had gone to Anand Sweets on Koramangala 60 feet road to use the washroom at around 8 p.m. While using the washroom, the women noticed a movement through the fibre glass wall in front of her. When she bent down to check, she was startled to see a mobile phone. Upon looking closer, she was shocked to see the mobile phone move and realised that someone was recording her from outside. She immediately raised an alarm and later approached the police to file a complaint. Accused booked for voyeurism Based on the complaint, the police registered an FIR against an unknown person charging him under Section 77 (crime of voyeurism, which involves capturing, observing, or disseminating images of someone engaging in a private act) and arrested the accused. However, they could not retrieve the phone he used to record. The victim later posted her ordeal on social media account, highlighting how unsafe public places had become while urging women to stand up to sexual predators. 'On April 25th, I was recorded inside a washroom at a trusted, popular place I've visited since childhood. What followed was a nightmare—panic, police, confessions, and emotional manipulation. They told me to stay quiet 'for my business' and to 'move on.' But I refused. Because silence protects predators. To every woman out there: you're not paranoid for checking. You're not overreacting for speaking up. You're powerful. And you deserve safety—even in a washroom,' she wrote in an Instagram post.
