Arizona State football 'clearly the favorite' in Big 12, David Pollack says
In June, college football analyst David Pollack raved about Arizona State football quarterback Sam Leavitt and his odds to win the Heisman Trophy in 2025. He's also very high on Arizona State's chances to repeat as Big 12 Conference champions. Pollock, a former ESPN analyst, praised the ASU football team in a recent episode of his podcast, See Ball Get Ball, talking about how he's buying stock in Kenny Dillingham and the Sun Devils and how he was taking Arizona State to win the Big 12. "I don't think you should slow down on this stock," Pollack said. "This is going to be a very, very good stock for a long time. Kenny Dillingham is a stud. He's a stud, he's young. This is a guy who is at his place. He's at his home. He's at his dream job. … It's obviously a great fit when you look at the takeaway." ASU football projections: Sun Devils among 5 teams favored in every game Big 12 football win total odds: Arizona | Arizona State | Baylor | BYU | Cincinnati | Colorado | Houston | Iowa State | Kansas | Kansas State | Oklahoma State | TCU | Texas Tech | UCF | Utah | West Virginia | Big 12 rankings 'The conversation starts with Arizona State' Pollack wasn't done with nice things to say about ASU. "When you look at this roster, experience coming back," he said on the podcast. "A lot of experience winning coming back. …They ain't going nowhere. …" Pollack, a College Football Hall of Famer, did bring up the loss of Skattebo and ASU's defense as potential areas of concern for the Sun Devils, but he wasn't very concerned about them. "To me the conversation starts with Arizona State, and then everybody else underneath them," he said of Arizona State's Big 12 title chances. "They are clearly the favorite to me. Talent, coaching. … It's going to be fun and if I am Arizona State I am pretty jacked up and excited." Pollack concluded the segment by saying "I think we're all in on Arizona State." Arizona State opens the season on Aug. 30 against Northern Arizona. 6-foot-4, 310-pound Georgia freshman DL reportedly running over 20 MPH
Former Georgia Bulldogs defensive end David Pollack knows a good defensive lineman when he sees one. If Pollack highlights the talent a true freshman and former five-star recruit, then it is worth listening to. That's exactly what Pollack did when he talked about Georgia freshman defensive lineman Elijah Griffin. Pollack shared ample praise about Griffin on his podcast, "See Ball Get Ball". "Enormous, 6-foot-5, you know, 300-plus pound kid, that's an 18-year-old freshman, that continues to hit over 20 miles an hour every week on the GPS," said Pollack. Based on those numbers, Griffin would be one of the fastest players his size in both college and the NFL. In fact, only three ball carriers reached 20 miles per hour during the Super Bowl, so Griffin has an impressive combination of size and speed. For reference, Elijah Griffin is listed at 6-foot-4 and weights 310 pounds on Georgia's roster. The question is will Griffin be able to put it all together as a freshman? The five-star recruit may have to log a significant amount of snaps this fall as Georgia looks to replace seven of their top eight sack producers from last season. "I think he's a guy (Griffin) that can come in and play a bunch of snaps and and be really good," said Pollack. "Now, he's not going to go kill it. Jalen Carter-type good. Like Jalen Carter when you saw him as a freshman, like he was not refined. He wasn't Jalen Carter as a as a junior." Carter recorded 14 tackles as a freshman with Georgia in 2020. Georgia's 2020 defense was more loaded up front than what the 2025 version of the Georgia defense looks like, so we think Griffin will have a bigger role than Carter did as a freshman. Carter went on to be a first-round NFL draft pick and an NFL All-Pro and Super Bowl champion with the Philadelphia Eagles. "That dude (Griffin) is a guy that you could play and you go I'm not going to have a big drop off," added Pollack. "And when he learns to use his hands and it all starts to work, you better watch the freak out." Despite Pollack's praise for Elijah Griffin, he still has concerns about the Georgia defensive and offensive line. In fact, Pollack predicts that Georgia will go 9-3 this season. How he (VY) handled media days. How I talked about media days. ... And we'll especially talk about that opener in the Shoe, because Vince and I were there one night and came away with a three-point win and it's an unbelievable atmosphere." -- Mack Brown on The Stampede After parting ways with North Carolina, Brown moved back to Austin where he's been a visible face around UT athletics. In a recent episode of the "See Ball Get Ball" podcast with former ESPN analyst David Pollack, Brown shared candid insights about his time at Texas and the burnout he experienced before leaving the Longhorns in 2013. 'We got tired at Texas. Sixteen years is a long time at a place like Texas. Sally [his wife] always said it's four presidential terms. So that's a long time to be at the University of Texas, so it was probably time for me to leave there and for them to get somebody else new, because you get worn down.' -- Mack Brown on See Ball Get Ball Now Brown will get to talk Texas football every week with the player he won a national title with. David Pollack Names Power Four Program That Might Be the Worst in College Football
David Pollack Names Power Four Program That Might Be the Worst in College Football originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The 2025 college football season is fast approaching, and while many people are focused on which teams will finish at the top, others are concerned about which teams might end up at the bottom. Advertisement College football analyst David Pollack shared his thoughts during a preview of the ACC on his podcast, "See Ball Get Ball with David Pollack." He expressed his belief that the Stanford Cardinal could not only be the worst team in the ACC but potentially the worst team in the entire country. In contrast, ESPN's Football Power Index (FPI) predicts that the Wake Forest Demon Deacons will finish last in the ACC. The FPI forecasts that both teams will have a record of 5-7 in the upcoming season. Cal Poly Mustangs running back Aiden Ramos (5) and Stanford Cardinal linebacker David Bailey (23). Sergio Estrada-Imagn Images "Is Stanford the worst team in college football?" Pollack asked. "They have a good defensive end, bam, he's gone. They've got a good receiver, bam, he's gone. The coach has been there like 10 days. They've got a new GM in Andrew Luck, who is going to learn how to do this stuff on the fly. It's just tough. I can't imagine that Stanford is going to be very good." Advertisement Stanford faced significant changes following the 2024 season due to the transfer portal. The Cardinal fired head coach Troy Taylor in March and hired Frank Reich as his replacement. Although Reich lacks experience as a college head coach, he previously led the Indianapolis Colts and the Carolina Panthers. Before that, he served as the offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles during their Super Bowl win with Nick Foles at quarterback. Overall, Stanford lost 27 players to the transfer portal but managed to bring in 18 new players. One of the most notable departures was quarterback Ashton Daniels, who threw for 3,947 yards and 21 touchdowns over the last two seasons. Daniels chose to transfer to Auburn, where he will compete for the starting quarterback position. Another significant loss for the Cardinal was star pass rusher David Bailey, who transferred to the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Last season, Bailey recorded 31 tackles, eight tackles for loss and seven sacks. Advertisement Stanford will need to find ways to replace these key players while also striving to prove critics wrong and have a successful season. Heartbreaking: Auburn's Hugh Freeze made a good point about his golf critics
Look, defending Auburn coach Hugh Freeze for much of anything when it comes to football or life is usually not in anyone's best interest. However, he recently made a good point about his work-life balance. After Freeze came under criticism from fans for the amount of golf he plays among SEC coaches, he went on David Pollack's See Ball Get Ball podcast and offered a pretty solid defense of his time on the links. 'This is that time where people are looking for things to write about,' Freeze said. 'And I do love golf. I enjoy playing... but what people don't realize is probably, you know, I assure you that I never missed a camp day or a recruiting day... but if camp got over at three o'clock one day, and Jill [Freeze] and I go out at 4:30, we absolutely might do that, and I'm not apologizing for that part of it. But my focus is 100-percent on getting Auburn in that win column this fall." Freeze added that he thinks the team's lack of very recent recruiting success might be causing fans to blame his time spent golfing as a reason as to why that's the case. Freeze's lack of success since arriving at Auburn (11-14, 5-11 SEC) probably has Tiger fans antsy about where the program is going, and any recruiting stalls can exacerbate that worry. However, Freeze going golfing more than other coaches does not have anything to do with how successful Auburn will be in the fall. Having a work-life balance is pretty important to anybody's success in any field, so Freeze is well within his right to spend time on the green if he wants in his free time. It's the "watch more film" fallacy in criticizing what athletes do in their spare time; watching even more film doesn't make that athlete play better, and any coach or athlete solely devoting themselves to their craft and not having a life outside of work doesn't automatically bring you wins. It's an easy target for fans to blame, but it rarely reflects on the real life dynamics at play. Auburn fans, look at what Freeze is doing on game days and not what he's doing before he goes to eat dinner. How much Freeze golfs in the summer is not going to matter much to your team's success or failure. How well he's built the roster and how well he coaches will determine that for the Tigers.
