Youth engagement in agro sector shows SejaTi MADANI success

ALOR GAJAH: The increasing participation of youth in agriculture and livestock sectors under the SejaTi MADANI initiative reflects its positive progress, according to Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari. The Alor Gajah MP stressed the need to sustain efforts in attracting young people by showcasing the stability of food security. Adly stated, 'This is because as long as there are people, food will always be needed. We only need to enhance their knowledge and interest, including financial management, use of technology, as well as opening up more avenues for assistance and funding.' He made these remarks after launching the Freshwater Fish Farming (Catfish) Project by Koperasi Usahawan Alor Gajah Melaka Berhad. The SejaTi MADANI programme, led by Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan Malaysia (Angkasa) in partnership with government agencies, has demonstrated tangible benefits for communities. Adly noted that some projects have advanced to their second phase without additional funding, proving the initiative's effectiveness. 'With a maximum funding of RM100,000, we can see that projects under this initiative have produced positive outcomes, including the emergence of various youth agro-projects such as catfish farming, village chicken rearing, agricultural drone rental services, and even sustainable cooking oil filtration innovations,' he said. Adly also urged freshwater fish farmers, particularly catfish breeders, to adopt responsible waste management practices. He emphasized the use of filtration systems to prevent river pollution, especially during dry seasons. 'We know that ponds used for catfish farming produce wastewater that can pollute rivers if not properly filtered. The use of technology such as water filtration systems must be made mandatory to protect water ecosystems,' he added. - Bernama

Sejati MADANI: Angkasa Seeks RM10 Mln In Additional Funds To Implement 100 New Projects

MELAKA, 26 JulaI (Bernama) -- Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan Malaysia Berhad (Angkasa) is seeking RM10 million in additional funds to facilitate wider participation of cooperative members in the Sejahtera Komuniti MADANI (SejaTi MADANI) programme. Angkasa president Datuk Seri Dr Abdul Fattah Abdullah said additional funds would be used to finance 100 new projects under the initiative, which has continued to show positive outcomes since it was launched last year. 'The additional funds are essential due to rising demand from cooperatives nationwide keen to take part in projects under the initiative involving the agriculture, tourism, recycling and food production sectors. 'This is because, out of more than 16,000 registered Angkasa members, only a small number have benefitted so far, and I believe the initiative needs to be expanded,' he told reporters after the launch of the Koperasi Usahawan Alor Gajah Melaka Berhad Freshwater Fish Farming Project at Jalan Kampung Rembia Tengah here today. The ceremony was officiated by Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari, who is also the Alor Gajah Member of Parliament. Abdul Fattah explained that Angkasa had previously been allocated 20 SejaTi MADANI projects worth RM2 million, with four already completed, while the rest had achieved at least 80 per cent progress and were expected to be completed by year-end. 'For new projects under the additional funding, we will focus on food production, especially those that yield fast results and have a direct impact on the community. 'The issue of supply shortages and rising prices of chicken, fish and vegetables is not something new and it must be addressed,' he said. Meanwhile, Abdul Fattah said a strong governance structure, including an internal monitoring body and support from relevant agencies, has placed Angkasa on the right track to effectively implement the community-scale project.

Youth Involvement In Agro Sector Signals Success Of Sejati MADANI Initiative

ALOR GAJAH, July 26 (Bernama) -- The growing involvement of youth in agriculture and livestock sectors under the 'Sejahtera Komuniti MADANI' (SejaTi MADANI) initiative indicates that the programme is progressing well, says Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari. The Alor Gajah MP said efforts to attract this group must be continued, including convincing them that the food security sector was among the most stable. 'This is because as long as there are people, food will always be needed. We only need to enhance their knowledge and interest, including financial management, use of technology, as well as opening up more avenues for assistance and funding,' he said. He was speaking to reporters after launching the Freshwater Fish Farming (Catfish) Project by Koperasi Usahawan Alor Gajah Melaka Berhad at Jalan Kampung Rembia Tengah here today, which was also attended by Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan Malaysia (Angkasa) president Datuk Seri Dr Abdul Fattah Abdullah. Commenting further on the SejaTi MADANI programme spearheaded by Angkasa in collaboration with various government agencies, he said the initiative had shown increasing positive impact on participating communities, with some already entering their second phase. 'With a maximum funding of RM100,000, we can see that projects under this initiative have produced positive outcomes, including the emergence of various youth agro-projects such as catfish farming, village chicken rearing, agricultural drone rental services, and even sustainable cooking oil filtration innovations. 'Some of these projects have already progressed to the second phase without requiring additional funds, which indicates the success and resilience of this community economic model,' he said. At the same time, he reminded freshwater fish farmers, especially those breeding catfish, not to discharge untreated pond waste water directly into rivers or main drainage systems. He said a proactive approach using modern technology must be adopted by operators as more entrepreneurs, including local cooperatives, venture into agro-farming projects, particularly catfish farming.

Recycled souvenirs boost tourism in Mersing with eco-friendly crafts

MERSING: Bottle caps and discarded boxes are finding new life as creative souvenirs in Mersing, drawing both local and foreign tourists. The Mersing Souvenir House (MSH) initiative, funded by a RM100,000 SejaTi MADANI grant, showcases the town's identity through marine-themed handicrafts. Manager Ahmad Firdaus Shaik Omar, 43, explained that the project highlights Mersing's uniqueness with products like keychains, fridge magnets, and T-shirts. 'Visitors can take home something special that represents our area,' he said during a recent visit to Kampung Air Puteri MSH. The initiative, launched last October, also provides workshops for tourists and students. Ahmad Firdaus, who is also Mersing Tourism Association secretary, noted that the project employs locals, including persons with disabilities and asnaf, boosting their income. MSH plans to expand by setting up a recycling centre for larger-scale production. 'We hope to secure a recycling machine to improve efficiency,' he added. Recently, 20 students from France participated in a workshop, learning to craft turtle replicas and play traditional games like gasing. - Bernama

Souvenirs Made Out Of Recycled Items Drawing Local, Foreign Tourists To Mersing

Two of the Mersing Souvenir House's employees are carefully working on souvenirs made from recycled materials. Among the souvenirs made from recycled materials produced by local residents and displayed at the Mersing Souvenir House (MSH), Kampung Air Puteri. MERSING, July 24 (Bernama) -- Bottle caps and used boxes that are usually discarded are now being processed by the local community into attractive souvenirs such as keychains and fridge magnets, which have become a tourist attraction for both domestic and international visitors. Mersing Souvenir House manager Ahmad Firdaus Shaik Omar, 43, said the creativity of local residents is showcased through the 'Mersing Souvenir House' (MSH) initiative, which was established through a RM100,000 SejaTi MADANI initiative grant. He said that most villages focus on the agro and livestock sectors, but this group is to be different by showcasing Mersing's identity through handicrafts and souvenirs with a marine life theme. 'We chose to highlight products such as keychains, caps, T-shirts, and fridge magnets featuring marine life and the identity of Mersing. Besides that, visitors can also go home with something unique that represents this area," he told reporters at the Kampung Air Puteri MSH here recently. Ahmad Firdaus, who is also the Mersing Tourism Association (MTA) secretary, said the project, which began in October last year and has been actively promoted since February, also organises craft workshops and interactive activities for visitors, including school students, in the district. According to him, all MSH products are produced entirely by the local community, including people with disabilities (PWDs) and the asnaf, who indirectly benefit economically from the demand for these products. "MSH is not just a craft centre but a social enterprise that generates income and creates employment opportunities. So far, we have six permanent staff, including five local community women. 'We also plan to establish a recycling centre to expand the production of creative products such as wall clocks and airplane models, all using waste material ... in addition to hoping to get sponsorship for a recycling machine to improve production efficiency. For now, we still rely on the workforce and creativity of the residents," he said. According to him, from July 15 and 18, his team received a visit from 20 students from France, aged between 15 and 18, and they were shown how to make turtle replicas and caps from recycled materials. They were also exposed to playing traditional games like gasing.
