Manager Ahmad Firdaus Shaik Omar, 43, explained that the project highlights Mersing's uniqueness with products like keychains, fridge magnets, and T-shirts. 'Visitors can take home something special that represents our area,' he said during a recent visit to Kampung Air Puteri MSH.
The initiative, launched last October, also provides workshops for tourists and students. Ahmad Firdaus, who is also Mersing Tourism Association secretary, noted that the project employs locals, including persons with disabilities and asnaf, boosting their income.
MSH plans to expand by setting up a recycling centre for larger-scale production. 'We hope to secure a recycling machine to improve efficiency,' he added. Allan Siden Gramong SIBU (July 29): The first remote-control (RC) powerboat pond in the country is being planned in Machan, said Machan assemblyman Allan Siden Gramong. According to him, his side is now in the process of surveying land for the RM700,000 project site, adding that the old 'tamu' (farmers and jungle produce market) area could be it. 'We are also still finding a consultant for this project as it is the first of its kind in the country. 'The main purpose of building the pond is for the convenience of RC powerboat racers and enthusiasts. 'We are aware that they have to find unused ponds for their activities. Selayang council still negotiating terms with new parking concessionaire
Currently, MPS collects about RM300,000 monthly from parking fees, says its president. Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) is still negotiating terms for Selangor's centralised parking system with the appointed concessionaire. MPS president Shahman Jalaludin said several terms of the concession were still under discussion. 'It is not finalised yet. 'Hopefully, we can settle it as soon as possible,' he said after chairing the local council's monthly full board meeting at its headquarters in Bandar Baru Selayang. Shahman said MPS was looking to maintain its current parking revenue, and not get less. 'We are trying to push for the same revenue as before,' he said, adding that the municipal council collected about RM300,000 a month previously. The Selangor Intelligent Parking (SIP) system is a state-led initiative to digitalise and centralise public parking. The initiative is spearheaded by Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI) Selangor and implemented through a company in collaboration with local councils. Under the SIP model, parking revenue will be split with 50% going to the concessionaire, 40% to the local councils involved and 10% to MBI. It has been announced that the implementation is from Aug 1. MPS is one of four local councils that are in the state's plan for SIP, alongside Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) and Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ). Shahman said enforcement would remain under MPS. He said the transition period was expected to take about two months. Infrastructure works such as repainting parking bays and installing closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras will begin after the contract is finalised, he elaborated. He added that MPS would help identify hotspot areas for CCTV placement, but equipment and installation costs would be borne by the concessionaire. 'We have to make sure any new system should benefit the council and the public,' Shahman emphasised.

Median Wage Rises To RM3000 In March As Labour Market Strengthens
Malaysia's formal sector labour market continued its recovery in early 2025, with the median monthly wage reaching RM3,000 in March, a 5.5% increase from RM2,844 in the same month last year. The growth in wages was supported by steady employment gains and government wage policies, including the upward revision of the minimum wage. According to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM), formal sector employment expanded by 3.6% year-on-year in March, with earlier gains of 3.1% in January and 3.4% in February, reflecting consistent momentum across the first quarter of 2025. Of the 6.8 million formal employees, the report showed males accounted for 55.1% (3.7 million), earning a median wage of RM3,000, while females made up 44.9% (3.04 million) with a slightly lower median wage of RM2,982. Wage growth was stronger among women, rising by 6.5%, compared to 3.4% for men, indicating gradual progress in closing the gender wage gap. Wages rose across all age groups, with the most notable increase among employees under 20, whose median wage surged by 13.3% to RM1,700. However, employment numbers declined slightly in the 20–24 age bracket, bucking the positive trend seen in other age groups. DOSM noted that the Mining & Quarrying sector continued to offer the highest remuneration, with a median wage of RM8,800, despite employing just 0.6% of the workforce. This marked a 4.8% year-on-year rise. At the other end of the spectrum, the Agriculture sector recorded the lowest median wage at RM2,200, covering 1.9% of formal employees. Geographically, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur topped the wage scale with a median of RM4,445, followed by Selangor at RM3,300. In contrast, Sabah (RM2,000), Kelantan (RM1,800), and Perlis (RM1,800) had the lowest median monthly wages in the country. While wage levels rose, income distribution remains a point of concern. As of March 2025: 27.4% of formal employees earned below RM2,000, down from 31.2% in March 2024, suggesting modest progress in reducing low-income prevalence. The 10th percentile earned RM1,700 or less, but this marked a 13.3% increase compared to RM1,500 a year ago. The 90th percentile of high-income earners made RM11,000 or more, up 4.8% year-on-year.
