Is Cobra Kai season 7 happening? Everything we know so far

Cobra Kai has captivated audiences with its nostalgic blend of The Karate Kid legacy, intense martial arts action, and compelling character arcs. With the sixth and final season concluding in February 2025, fans are buzzing with questions: Will there be a Cobra Kai Season 7? What could the plot entail, and who might return? In this article, we dive into the latest updates, speculate on possibilities, and explore the future of the Miyagiverse. Is Cobra Kai Season 7 Happening? Advertisement Unfortunately, Cobra Kai Season 7 is not happening. The creators—Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg—confirmed in January 2023 that Season 6 would be the final chapter of the series. Why Did Cobra Kai End After Season 6? The decision to conclude Cobra Kai after six seasons was driven by the showrunners' vision to wrap up the storylines of Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka), Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio), and their students. Season 6 tied up major arcs, with Johnny and Daniel's rivalry evolving into a partnership, and key characters like Miguel, Sam, Robby, and Tory moving on to new chapters post-graduation. The season's focus on the Sekai Taikai, a global karate tournament, provided an epic stage for the final battles, culminating in dramatic events like Kwon's accidental death during a brawl. The creators felt this was the natural endpoint, delivering closure while honoring the Karate Kid legacy. However, the Miyagiverse remains vibrant. The upcoming film Karate Kid: Legends (set for release on May 30, 2025), starring Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan, will expand the universe, though it may not share continuity with Cobra Kai.

'Cobra Kai' finale: Co-creators reveal how they decided on shocking Terry Silver twist, Sekai Taikai winner

Co-creators of the famed Netflix Cobra Kai series, Jon Hurwitz, Josh Heald and Hayden Schlossberg, brought us six seasons of thrills, surprises and a lot of karate. From developing the relationship between Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and William Zabka (Johnny Lawrence), to the interesting dynamics of the next generations of karate stars, the series thoroughly expanded the world established in the Karate Kid movies. But one of the most exciting developments in the final episodes of Cobra Kai was seeing the surprising twist with infamous villain Terry Silver, played by Thomas Ian Griffith. One of the fiercest villains in the Karate Kid universe, Cobra Kai took the character to a really interesting place, adding a more humanizing element to Silver's story. Additionally, Hurwitz, Heald and Schlossberg had us at the edge of our seats as they finally revealed who wins the Sekai Taikai competition. The show's co-creators spoke to Yahoo Canada about when they decided who would win the international tournament, in addition to talking about how they decided to expand the role of Silver throughout the series. In the beginning We were enemies And through the years, you want to finish this? We've had our battles. Bring it on. All of us, come on. Isn't a tournament There are no rules. But that's only made us stronger. I guess it was inevitable. We'd end up on the same side. I'd love to know at what point did you know how things were going to end in the Seai Taikai and who the winners were going to be without spoiling exactly who they are and what happens. You know, it was something that we were plotting out, uh, you know, in the writer's room. I think before the writer's room we knew the final few uh moves that we were making, uh, so, you know. The three of us start off, uh, before each season and we sort of plan, uh, the character arcs for every character. And then once we're in the writer's room, some things can change, and we, uh, you know, uh, work with our amazing team to figure out a lot of the twists and turns. Uh, this was something that we knew where we were headed. Um, it's wrapping up, a story that's, you know, 65 episodes long, so you're thinking about the long game and Uh, you know, where you started and where you wanted to finish with these characters, and some of it's a 40 year journey, you know, one of the things that we, we're very proud of in the final episodes of the show is taking this, you know, Johnny Lawrence Daniel Russo relationship that we fell in love with in 1984, this rivalry and hopefully bring it to a satisfying conclusion for fans. I think that your handling of Terry Silver as a character in this series has been So exceptional from where we saw the character introduced, um, and just the kind of dynamics and the ups and the downs, particularly in this season. Um, what's been particularly compelling about kind of really bringing that character into the fold in the way that you were able to in the series? Terry Silver was always sitting out there as this major character on the chessboard to play, and the moment you start playing with that character, it's, you know, the the the things start burning and and you're You're in a new zone. Like we did 3 seasons of a story that ends with Johnny and Daniel bowing to each other, you know, in Mr. Miyagi's backyard, and it felt like that was part one. And then here comes Crease calling Terry Silver, and in comes the big bad wolf, you know, from the cold. And we had to own up for, you know, what we watched in the Karate Kid Part 3 for, you know, what Robert Mark Kaman did there at the time was big. And, uh, it was bold and it was. He was villainous in a way that, you know, we really hadn't experienced even from Crease before. And the fun was in humanizing that character and having us re-encounter this character who had seemingly, um, gotten therapy and, and confronted his demons and had figured out that, you know, he was living too fast and too loose in the 80s, um, and life got a little bit away from him, and he can't even believe the way that he behaved. And by grounding that character and bringing him back down to earth, it enabled us to then Launch him to the moon again and let him, you know, slowly build to becoming, uh, the full monster that he is by the time you re-encounter him, uh, in season 6. And a character like that is a gift, um, for writers because, uh, and, and an actor like that too, because Thomas is able to, you know, to do anything we throw at him from the martial arts to the most dramatic readings to the most, uh, to grounding the most villainous, uh, dialogue, um, that we can possibly plan. So it was nothing but fun.

'Cobra Kai' spoilers! William Zabka spills on Johnny Lawrence's 'breakthrough moment'

Spoiler alert! We're discussing important plot points and the ending of the Netflix series 'Cobra Kai.' Beware if you haven't seen it yet (but you should because it's rad). 'The Karate Kid' ended with Ralph Macchio's Daniel LaRusso being carried off the mat by fans in victory. Forty years later in the series finale episode of 'Cobra Kai,' it's the same mat but a different winner, with Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) lifted up by his students and basking in sweet redemption. 'Who doesn't want to be on the shoulders of everybody? Especially Johnny. I'm really in character when I'm doing that,' says Zabka, 59, who reprised his 'Karate Kid' antagonist (and 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament runner-up) for the popular Netflix series. 'It was a breakthrough moment for him. And to be lifted up by his kids who he loved and gave so much of his best self to as he could, it was great, man.' Join our Watch Party! Decades after a crane kick to the face felled bullying teen Johnny, six seasons of 'Cobra Kai' chronicled his comeback. He rebooted the Cobra Kai dojo and facing his hard-nosed old sensei John Kreese (Martin Kove). And Johnny guided the martial arts know-how of a new generation of kids, reconnecting with his estranged son Robby (Tanner Buchanan), and even befriended Daniel (Ralph Macchio), though not without the occasional rough patch. Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle. In the closing episodes of the series (streaming now), his pupils Miguel (Xolo Maridueña) and Tory (Peyton List) win the boys and girls competitions of the international Sekai Taikai tourney. To win the event, though, Cobra Kai has to beat the Iron Dragons in a battle of senseis: Johnny vs. the Dragons' Wolf (Lewis Tan). Thanks to help from Daniel, Johnny beats the younger, stronger foe as part of his happy ending, which also includes buying a house for wife Carmen (Vanessa Rubio) and their new baby girl, plus welcoming a fresh crop of Cobra Kai hopefuls. Zabka talks with USA TODAY about finishing 'Cobra Kai,' the one 'Karate Kid' cameo that got away and what's next. (Edited for length and clarity.) Q: Was Johnny having the final match always the ending of the show? William Zabka: They didn't tell me the ending. There was no Sekai Taikai in the original pitch. He starts by himself in apartment with the Coors Banquet (beer), and he doesn't even have a fish. He has no friends and bumps into this kid (Miguel) who sparks life in him, and that leads to Carmen and that opens his heart up again. He's redeemed at the end not because he has a trophy or that he has a dojo, but that he's bettered himself while still holding onto the things that make him unique. The original movie's montage anthem 'You're the Best Around' comes back around when Daniel is training Johnny before his big showdown. Was it weird to see Ralph wearing a Cobra Kai gi? Honestly, yeah. I had a really good hearty laugh when I came off the mat, and he had to be my sensei barking orders at me. I think he looks great in the Cobra Kai gi. I love to see Daniel dirty. I like to see him rough around the edges and not so controlled, when he's a little unhinged. The Johnny in me has a new respect for LaRusso. I love that moment in the final match that shows how much Johnny's grown, stepping back in a defensive stance rather than surging forward like he did in '84. Everything hinges on that. If Johnny didn't lean into the crane kick (in '84), it would've been a different life. If he learned anything, he learned to take a little step back here and there. In every way. The show had so many story line echoes, Easter eggs and character returns from the three '80s movies. Is there anything or anybody you wished had returned one more time? We were very close to having Chad McQueen come in as Dutch. Unfortunately, he passed away (in September). The scene would've been in the beginning of the final episode, which was replaced by me visiting my mom at the grave. We were in touch with him the whole time. He almost made it in Season 2 with the (Cobra Kai) guys and we were taking a motorcycle ride up to the mountains and camping out. I would've loved to see Dutch, and I know the fans would've loved to see him. So what's next for you? Ralph's playing Daniel in an upcoming 'Karate Kid' movie … What?! Ralph's doing a movie?! That idiot. Just kidding. (Laughs) This has been a big baby to birth in a way. I'm very satisfied with the ending, and I'm just gonna reset and see what comes my way. The world sees Johnny Lawrence differently after this show. Does Hollywood see William Zabka differently, too? I don't know how they can't. Really, the trajectory of my career went from 'The Karate Kid.' I was known as the bad guy in the movies I did in the '80s. But this is a new day in that way. I've been able to access my whole tool belt of colors of comedy and action and drama. I always kind of felt like the only way that I'll get on the other side of the shadow of Johnny Lawrence is to go through the eye of the needle and play him again. That's what I feel like I've done with this and help people understand him. It definitely opens the doors up more, I think, than before this happened, let's just say that.

'Cobra Kai' finale: Tanner Buchanan, Mary Mouser on the evolution of their characters throughout Netflix hit

It's the end of an era with the release of Cobra Kai Season 6, Part 3 on Thursday, the conclusion of one of Netflix's most successful shows. With Part 2 of the final season ending with a catastrophic death at the Sekai Taikai in Barcelona, each character is dealing with the aftermath of that traumatic competition. But with that comes real growth for the show's characters in this chapter in the Karate Kid franchise. A particularly moving moment comes when Samantha "Sam" LaRusso (Mary Mouser), daughter of Ralph Macchio's Daniel LaRusso, and Peyton List's character, Tory Nichols, share an emotional and heartwarming moment together, re-establishing their friendship. Sam and Tory have not always seen eye-to-eye, and were closer to mortal enemies than friends, but these kick-ass karate girls satisfyingly come together to end the show. "I've been so grateful for the journey that Sam and Tory have gotten to go on. I'm so happy that they're finally in a place where they can have a sit down conversation at all, much less a conversation about their friendship, much less a conversation about the growth that they both endured," Mary Mouser told Yahoo Canada. "I think they built each other up as these enemies in each other's minds for so long and I know, on my side at least, ... realizing how much there was to learn from Tory for Sam is so cool to now see them, literally, legitimately, sharing tips, and being able to be a good listener to one another." "It's one thing to talk at somebody, but it's something else to actually sit in and really let someone else tell you how to be, how to fight, how to live your life, do things that you feel confident you already know how to do. To open yourself up in that way is really powerful, and I was so grateful for it." While this conversation happens in Episode 12 of Season 6, the second episode of the Part 3 release, the episodes were shot out of order, making this scene among the last that Mouser filmed for the show. "That moment was so powerful. To get to spend that [time] with Peyton, and with Samantha and Tory, and what felt like kind of the beginning of Sam's karate arc ending with Tory, was really special," Mouser said. But there's no denying that one of the characters with the most significant arc in Cobra Kai has been Tanner Buchanan's Robby Keene. From his strained relationship with his father Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) and general parental neglect, to his rivalry with Miguel Diaz (Xolo Maridueña), he's come a long way since that first season. "We all grew up with our characters, so it's been fun to even take some of his own lessons that he's learned along the way, and kind of incorporate them in my own life," Buchanan said. "And try and figure out what the right thing is to do as you're growing up and becoming an adult, and what your life is going to look like, and how to kind of execute it." "It's been fun to play around with it and I'm lucky enough to have Josh [Heald], Jon [Hurwitz] and Hayden [Schlossberg] write such an intricate, fun character to play." While the wild ride of the Cobra Kai Netflix series has come to an end, there's no doubting the show has given us robust character development throughout all six seasons, set to make fans miss all these beloved characters.

When Does ‘Cobra Kai' Season 6 Part 3 Come Out? Release Date, Time and Everything Else to Know

It all comes down to this. The epic conclusion of Netflix's hit series Cobra Kai is on its way in season 6 part 3, which is set to release in February 2025. Viewers will finally get to see which dojo wins the Sekai Taikai tournament, nearly 40 years after the events of the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament in the first Karate Kid film. Life & Style breaks down everything fans need to know about part 3's release date, time and more, so no one is a second late to the action. The new batch of Cobra Kai episodes is set to drop on Netflix on February 13, 2025, at 12 a.m. PT, or 3 a.m. ET. A late night viewing party may be in order for east coasters who want to be the first to see what happens in part 3! It's a supersized season! Like parts 1 and 2, Cobra Kai season 6 part 3 comes with five episodes, making for a total of 15. This is atypical for Netflix, as the streamer usually caps a season of one of its original shows at 10 episodes max. Part 3 will pick up where part 2 ended, so fans can expect to see mostly the same cast members in the new episodes. This includes all the senseis, good and bad — Ralph Macchio as Daniel LaRusso, William Zabka as Johnny Lawrence, Martin Kove as John Kreese, Yuji Okumoto as Chozen Toguchi, Alicia Hannah-Kim as Sensei Kim Da-Eun, Lewis Tan as Sensei Wolf and, yes, even Thomas Ian Griffith as Terry Silver. Of course, there are also the returning modern 'karate kids' — Xolo Maridueña as Miguel Diaz, Jacob Bertrand as Eli "Hawk" Moskowitz, Mary Mouser as Samantha LaRusso, Tanner Buchanan as Robby Keene, Peyton List as Tory Nichols, Gianni DeCenzo as Demetri Alexopoulos, Dallas Dupree Young as Kenny Payne, Griffin Santopietro as Anthony LaRusso and Oona O'Brien as Devon Lee. Other cast members in Cobra Kai season 6 part 3 include Courtney Henggeler as Amanda LaRusso and Vanessa Rubio as Carmen Diaz. Season 6 part 3 will follow the epic conclusion of the Sekai Taikai tournament in Barcelona, Spain. At the end of part 2, fans saw a wild, live-streamed brawl break out between all of the dojos, and it ended in tragedy with the accidental death of Cobra Kai's Kwon Jae-Sung (Brandon H. Lee). Now, both Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do are left dealing with the aftermath of Kwon's death. 'After a startling result in the Sekai Taikai, Miyagi-Do and Cobra Kai must reckon with their pasts while facing an uncertain future both on and off the mat,' part 3's synopsis reads. 'Almost 40 years after the events of the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament, it's all been leading to this. Granted one final chance to finish the Sekai Taikai, Daniel, Johnny and the team lay it all on the line in the ultimate championship showdown.' In the trailer for part 3, scenes from the Karate Kid films and Cobra Kai flashed onscreen as Daniel and Johnny could be heard in voiceovers speaking about their rivalry through the years. However, they joined in unison to say, 'We need to go back to where it all began.' Cobra Kai co-creator Hayden Schlossberg teased to Netflix's Tudum ahead of part 3 that 'all of the big bads' would still be 'in play' in the final episodes. 'You still have Kreese, Silver, Sensei Wolf, Master Kim Da-Eun. Everyone is still on the board. Nothing's been resolved,' Schlossberg said. 'We have a lot of fun in store with all the characters left in tatters at the end of episode 10.'
