Illegal reflexology and massage operators in Selayang raided

A REFLEXOLOGY and massage centre in Jalan Sri Selayang, Selangor, was ordered to close after being found operating without a valid licence during a raid by authorities. The operation by Selayang Municipal Council (MPS), carried out at several areas in the municipality, also saw the operator fined RM1,000 under the Beauty and Healthcare Centres By-Laws (MPS) 2007. During the raid at Uptown Sri Gombak, authorities also took action against nine stall operators offering reflexology and body massage treatments, as well as employing foreign workers without approval. 'MPS confiscated business items including 27 recliner chairs, eight tents, six massage beds and 49 small stools,' it stated on its social media page. The operation, which was also carried out at the Selayang Hot Springs area, saw seven stalls operating without a licence fined for various offences. Action was taken under Licensing of Trades, Businesses and Industries By-Laws (MPS) 2007, Food Establishment Licensing By-Laws 2007 and Hawkers By-Laws 2007. 'MPS will continue to monitor and take legal action to ensure all business activities within the municipality comply with regulations,' the local council said. In Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) removed two illegal billboard structures during an integrated operation on May 20. DBKL, in a joint operation with the police and Tenaga Nasional Bhd, dismantled two billboards measuring 6.7m by 3.3m which were installed on road reserve land without approval. 'The owners of the billboard structures had been issued a notice on April 9 and a follow-up notice on May 16 to demolish and clear the site within the stipulated timeframe,' it said in a media statement. Action was taken under Section 70 of the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974. 'This decisive action is part of DBKL's ongoing efforts to improve the city's appearance and ensure that all developments and structures in Kuala Lumpur comply with existing regulations. 'It also supports the goal of reinforcing Kuala Lumpur's image as a well-organised city with strong governance and adherence to the law, especially as preparation for hosting the Asean Summit 2025. 'As the host city, Kuala Lumpur is committed to presenting itself as a well-managed and sustainable urban centre,' the statement added. The dismantled structures were sent to DBKL's Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Department's storage facility in Jalan Cheras for documentation purposes. RATEPAYERS in Selayang who paid up their 2025 assessment tax in full have been presented with mobile rubbish bins. Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) handed over the bins, referred to as MGB, to eligible ratepayers during a ceremony at its headquarters in Bandar Baru Selayang, Selangor. 'MPS provided a free 80-litre MGB each to eligible taxpayers as an encouragement and in appreciation of their commitment to the council's development,' said MPS Corporate Department in a media statement. 'This initiative follows the implementation of the assessment tax rate review for 2025, which was approved by the state government last year and came into effect this year,' it added. MPS president Shahman Jalaludin said the provision of mobile rubbish bins was not only a token of appreciation, but to also instil good hygiene practices. 'The culture of maintaining cleanliness starts at home, and with this facility we can further strengthen the role of the community in creating a clean, healthy and sustainable environment,' he said in his speech. Fifty MGBs were presented at the ceremony. A total of 4,524 units will be distributed to eligible ratepayers in stages until May 31. The deadline for assessment tax payment was Feb 28 for the first half of the year and Aug 31 for the second half. For enquiries, call MPS revenue division at 03-6126 5961/ 5963 or visit

KDEBWM targets 80% Euro-5 lorry use by year-end

KLANG: KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) is targeting 80 per cent use of environmentally friendly Euro 5-spec roll-on-roll-off (RORO) trucks for cleaning operations in Selangor by the end of this year. KDEBWM managing director Datuk Ramli Mohd Tahir said the company was set to receive 47 vehicles next month, with operations to begin immediately in areas under the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) and several other local authorities (PBT). 'So far, we have received six Euro 5 RORO lorries, and the remaining units are expected to arrive next month. 'Generally, asset assessments are carried out every five to six years, and based on current developments, KDEBWM has decided that this model is the most suitable,' he told reporters after the handover ceremony of the first batch of Fuso trucks here today. Ramli said the use of the model helped minimise nitrogen oxide (NOx) and carbon emissions, provided efficient fuel consumption without compromising engine performance, and added value to cleaning operations in Selangor. He said KDEBWM was operating with 1,400 units of machinery, including RORO and compactor lorries, and that the company remained committed to promoting greener operations in line with the government's goal of making Malaysia a carbon-neutral country by 2050. 'We hope that with the conversion to this new model chassis, we can reduce at least 30 to 40 per cent of the carbon dioxide emitted by the old chassis,' he said. Previously, Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad was reported as saying that Malaysia would begin implementing the use of Euro 5 petrol in September 2025, with full compliance expected by 2027, as a long-term measure to preserve the country's air quality.

More Selayang folk shifting towards online payment

Selayang Municipal Council's Customer Day is held on the first Friday of every month. SOME 80% of payments to Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) in March were made online, indicating widespread acceptance of the Selangor government's push towards cashless methods. MPS president Shahman Jalaludin said RM2.33mil was collected online during the month, comprising payment for various fees. Among the biggest contributors were assessment tax (RM1.25mil), business licences (RM245,000), stall rentals (RM292,000) and building planning permits (RM366,000). Speaking to StarMetro after the full board meeting, Shahman said the council would continue to promote cashless payments. 'We also encourage the public, when they come to our headquarters, to pay using our kiosks. 'However, we will still maintain our physical counters as some people still prefer making payments in person,' he said. On a related matter, Shahman said MPS had collected RM58.7mil in assessment tax as of March 31, 87% of the total amount owed. The council had also recouped some RM3mil in assessment arrears, he added, which was one-third of the total owed. He said MPS had issued Form E on March 1 to remind property owners with arrears to settle their outstanding amounts. 'A total of 76,414 forms were issued and the notice period expired on March 31,' he said. 'On April 11, warrants were also issued, warning errant owners that their assets would be seized if they failed to pay up.' Like other local councils, Shahman said MPS, too, regularly sent out a special taskforce on weekends to remind errant owners to pay up. 'Compared to sending reminders and putting messages on noticeboards, we find the taskforce has been more effective at getting arrears settled.' Separately, he said the MPS Customer Day event had been well received. Held on the first Friday of each month, the event enables residents, hawkers and developers, among others, to highlight their concerns to MPS. Though often held at its headquarters, it would take place in other parts of Selayang this year, Shahman said. 'We plan on having three sessions outside MPS. Hopefully, we can get more people to show up.'
