Tyler Police Department deploys extra officers for Memorial Day weekend
TYLER, Texas (KETK) — The Tyler Police Department has stepped up their STEP (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program) for Memorial Day weekend. TxDOT launches 'Click It Or Ticket' campaign in Tyler With traffic expected to increase over the holiday weekend, the Tyler PD is encouraging residents to be alert for drunk or intoxicated drivers on the road or while boating. Through Monday, the department will have extra officers out in the city and at Lake Tyler, specifically to look out for drunk drivers. 'We want everyone to enjoy the Memorial Day holiday. Please be responsible and don't drink and drive,' the Tyler Police Department said. 'We hope you have a safe and happy holiday!' On Monday, the Texas Department of Transportation launched their annual 'Click It Or Ticket' driver safety campaign which means they're also increasing their efforts to keep drivers safe. The Brief Cobb County police responded to a fatal pedestrian collision Wednesday night near George Busbee Parkway and Ernest Barrett Parkway. The incident occurred around 8:51 p.m., prompting the department's STEP Unit to take over the investigation. Authorities say an Illinois man was attempting to run across the parkway when he fell in front of a vehicle, killing him in the crash. COBB COUNTY, Ga. - Cobb County police are investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred Wednesday night near the intersection of George Busbee Parkway and Ernest Barrett Parkway. What we know Officers were dispatched to the scene around 8:51 p.m. following reports of a person struck by a vehicle. When they arrived, they confirmed that the incident had resulted in a fatality. The department's Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit responded to the scene to lead the investigation. According to officials, 67-year-old Illinois resident Reginald Williams was running across the parkway outside the crosswalk when he stumbled and fell in front of a Nissan Rouge that was traveling southbound. The driver was not able to stop the vehicle in time, leading to a crash. Williams was pronounced dead at the scene. What you can do The crash remains under investigation. 39-year-old Mableton man walking on sidewalk killed by hit-and-run driver
The Brief A pedestrian, 39-year-old Roy Mattox, was killed in a hit-and-run on South Gordon Road in Austell. The driver fled the scene after striking Mattox, who was walking on the sidewalk. Cobb County Police are investigating and urging anyone with information to come forward. COBB COUNTY, Ga. - Cobb County police are searching for the driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run that killed a pedestrian Sunday night. The Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (S.T.E.P.) Unit is investigating the incident, which occurred on March 2 around 8:05 p.m. on South Gordon Road, east of Shady Ridge Lane, in Austell. According to the initial investigation, 39-year-old Roy Mattox of Mableton was walking westbound on the sidewalk when a westbound vehicle veered off the road and struck him. The impact sent Mattox onto a nearby embankment. The driver did not stop and fled the scene. Mattox was pronounced dead at the scene by the Cobb County Medical Examiner's Office. His family has been notified. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the driver or vehicle involved to contact the Cobb County Police Department as the investigation continues.

Driver killed in single-vehicle crash in Kennesaw on Monday
COBB COUNTY, Ga. - A 62-year-old Kennesaw man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on South Main Street near Duncan Drive on Monday evening, according to the Cobb County Police Department. What we know The crash occurred around 5:01 p.m. on Feb. 17. Authorities say Tony Campbell was driving a 2025 Chevrolet Silverado northbound when he failed to maintain his lane while navigating a curve. His vehicle veered off the road and struck several trees along the shoulder. Campbell suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Cobb County Medical Examiner's Office.
