Josh Heupel excited to have former OU football teammate Seth Littrell on Tennessee's staff

ATLANTA — Seth Littrell didn't work out as OU's offensive coordinator. But Tennessee coach Josh Heupel — who won a national championship with Littrell as a player with the Sooners in 2000 — is betting Littrell will have an impact as a senior offensive analyst with the Volunteers. Advertisement 'For Seth, somebody that I've played with and got great trust in. … His experience as a head coach is another tool that he brings to us. He's had elite offenses with great players, done it at an extremely high level,' Heupel said Tuesday at SEC media days at the College Football Hall of Fame. 'His knowledge, expertise, his understanding of some of the things that we do offensively. … 'Seth has been great for us since he got there in February and expect him to be a big part of what we're doing.'. CARLSON: Adding ninth SEC game would be financial windfall for OU football, but all isn't positive Oklahoma offensive coordinator Seth Littrell talks with quarterback Jackson Arnold (11) before a college football game between the University of Oklahoma Sooners (OU) and the Tulane Green Wave at Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman, Okla., Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024. Littrell, a Muskogee native who played for the Sooners from 1997-2000, was an offensive analyst on Brent Venables' OU staff in 2023 before being elevated to offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach last season. Advertisement But the Sooners' offense was a disaster last season, putting up their lowest total yardage and rushing yards since 1998 while allowing a program-worst 50 sacks. Littrell was fired in late October, the day after OU's 35-9 loss to South Carolina. He was replaced by Joe Jon Finley for the rest of the season and Venables ultimately hired Ben Arbuckle of Washington State to take over the offense. Littrell was hired to join Heupel's staff in late February. Ryan Aber covers OU athletics for The Oklahoman. Have a story idea for Ryan? He can be reached at raber@ or on Twitter at @RyAber. "More than just my talent and skill set, I appreciated how the staff respected me for who I am and for the values my parents instilled in me. "But a lot has changed since last June." More: What will OU football's record be after 2025 season? We predict each Sooners game O'Neal's decision comes as the Sooners are in a hotly contested battle with LSU for four-star quarterback Bowe Bentley.
