Shabbir accuses BJP of stalling BC reservation
Hyderabad: Advisor to govt Mohammed Ali Shabbir on Sunday accused the BJP of trying to stall the enhancement of BC reservation and appealed to the community to extend full support to the Congress govt's efforts to empower them socially, educationally, politically, and in other sectors. "It was the Congress govt in the undivided state that gave 4% reservation to minorities in Telangana. Despite political conspiracies to revoke it, we are safeguarding it legally through the courts. The caste survey revealed that the minorities, who constitute over 12% of the state population, about 10.08% are backward. With this data, no force can now stop minority reservations," he said. Participating in the Telangana Congress' Janahita Padayatra in Nizamabad district, Shabbir Ali credited the Congress party coming to power in Telangana to the relentless efforts of grassroots workers. "We are in govt today because of your 10-year-long struggle. You worked hard. Now it is our responsibility to work for you and help you become leaders," he said. Hyderabad: Congress leader and govt advisor Mohammed Ali Shabbir on Sunday assured full support to All India Muslim Personal Law Board ( AIMPLB ) in its ongoing agitation against the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025. Addressing a round table conference titled 'Save Waqf, Save Constitution Movement' in the city, Shabbir Ali said the Congress would back all legal and democratic efforts to safeguard waqf properties and uphold constitutional values. He recalled that Telangana was the first state in the country to officially oppose the controversial Waqf Amendment Bill, with a govt-level meeting convened on Aug 19, 2024. "This is a battle for justice. This is about protecting constitutional guarantees for minorities," he added.
