Dakshina Kannada Muslim Congress leaders vent ire at state government; plan to resign en masse

MANGALURU: Muslim leaders of the Congress party from Dakshina Kannada district have decided to resign en masse to their posts over the state government's alleged failure to curb communal murders in the Dakshina Kannada district. Shahul Hameed, the minority wing president of DK District Congress Committee, told TNIE that they will hold a meeting at Shadi Mahal in Bolar on Thursday at 2.30 pm before putting down their papers. He said office-bearers from booth level to KPCC belonging to the Muslim community will put down the papers. He blamed police department's complete failure to have led to the murder of Abdul Rahiman. 'There was no action against inflammatory speeches and those forced people after giving a call for bundh. If we are not able to provide justice to the people, then what is the use of us being in these positions. We are pained and helpless,' he said.

Thousands protest against Waqf Act in S'mogga

Shivamogga: Thousands from Muslim communities gathered in Shivamogga to protest the Waqf Amendment Act and later submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner. The All-India Muslim Personal Law Board organised a peaceful demonstration under the banner 'Save Waqf - Save the Constitution'. Protesters, wearing black bands and carrying the national flag, began their march from the Muslim Hostel (district waqf office) towards the DC office, where they assembled for a large-scale demonstration. The participants voiced their concerns regarding constitutional rights and waqf properties preservation. The campaign emphasised the protection of these fundamental aspects. Muslim leader Shahul Hameed addressed the gathering, highlighting increasing challenges faced by the community. He cited various issues including triple talaq legislation, NRC implementation, hijab restrictions, and now the Waqf Act amendments causing additional difficulties. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Mais de 50 e pernas inchadas? He particularly objected to the inclusion of non-Muslims in the act, questioning their involvement in Muslim Waqf Board matters. He urged the Centre to acknowledge these peaceful protests. Hameed addressed security concerns, referencing incidents in Pahalgam, Uri, and Pathankot. He emphasised that terrorists lack religious affiliation, and no faith permits the killing of another's followers. He stated that anyone committing murder under the guise of terrorism cannot be considered Muslim. He suggested that those acquiring waqf property should likewise contribute their properties to the Waqf Board. Over five thousand people took part in the protest.

Muslims take out protest in Shivamogga against Waqf (Amendment) Act

Shivamogga Hundreds of members of the Muslim community in Shivamogga took out a protest march in the city on Saturday, opposing the Waqf Amendment Act 2025. The protesters, holding national flags, began the march from Waqf Bhavan and reached the Deputy Commissioner's office. Along the march, they raised slogans—Save Waqf and Save Constitution. They assembled in front of the office, where they held a protest meeting. The All India Muslim Personal Law Board had convened the protest. Addressing the protesters, Shahul Hameed, a religious leader of the community, said that the protest was held to oppose the Centre's move. The BJP had been making decisions targeting people of one particular religion all these years. 'We are all Indians, and we have equal rights as per the Constitution,' he said. The amendments to the Waqf Act were against the interests of the Muslims. 'The amendments allow non-Muslims on the Waqf committees. However, this is not allowed in any committees with respect to the properties of other religions. The amendments should be withdrawn,' he demanded. Balkhees Banu, MLC, Sudhir Kumar Murolli, Congress spokesperson, and others participated in the meeting. The organisers later submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner Gurudatt Hegde. The district administration had deployed police across the city to avoid any untoward incident during the protest. The police had restricted vehicles on the roads where the protest march was held. Superintendent of Police G.K. Mithun Kumar and other senior police officers monitored the situation.
