Blankety Blank player misses out on jackpot as he's bested by mind-boggling riddle - but can YOU solve it?
A Blankety Blank player missed out on the jackpot after being bested by mind-boggling riddle - but can you work it out? The popular BBC game show, which is hosted by Bradley Walsh, has gripped viewers with its word association brain teasers over the years. But as one player, David, was given the word 'Down', followed by a blank, they narrowly missed out. With the help from three celebrities help, David was challenged to match their common phrases. Nish Kumar, offered up the word 'hill' to make 'Downhill', Shane Richie suggested 'town' to make 'Downtown'. For the final suggestions, Lesley Joseph recommended the word 'stairs' to form the word 'downstairs'. But David revealed to host Bradley that he was considering 'under' as his choice to make 'Down under'. After he locked in his own answer, it was revealed 'under' was the third most popular answer - for £500. The second most popular answer was Lesley's suggestion, 'stairs', which would have bagged him £750. Meanwhile, coming out on top was 'town' which was Shane's choice and have got David a home decorating package. The long running show sees two contestants match the answers to as many of the six celebrity panellists on fill-in-the-blank statements in order to win 'unique' prizes. The Chase presenter, 63, who took over for the most recent comeback in 2021, will has returned for a fourth and fifth series. Terry Wogan and then Les Dawson previously hosted the show from 1979 until 1990 before the programme was briefly revived by Paul O'Grady as his drag alter-ego Lily Savage in 2001. Some of the most recent celebrity contestants to take part in the series include Dancing on Ice judge Oti Mabuse, This Morning stars Eamonn Holmes, Josie Gibson, and Alison Hammond and Loose Women panellist Judi Love. Earlier this year, Naga Munchetty made her first appearance on Blankety Blank amid the BBC Breakfast bullying probe. The news presenter featured on the show alongside other guests which included Great British Bake Off star Sue Perkins, This Morning's Dermot O'Leary, Iain Stirling, Paralympian Ellie Simmonds and Layton Williams. However, many viewers were focused on Naga, as her Blankety Blank debut came as she found herself reportedly accused of bullying a member of staff, according to The Sun, and allegedly was spoken to by bosses over a sex jibe she made while off-air at BBC Radio 5 Live. BBC Breakfast was also reportedly undergoing a bullying probe which was launched into BBC Breakfast, with much of the upset centred around its editor Richard Frediani. Watchers took to social media to share their thoughts and one posted on X: 'Naga Munchetty on Blankety Blank after the headlines she's been making someone at the bbc will get fired for that #bbc #blanketyblank.' Someone else added: 'Naga hasn't been cancelled yet then #blanketyblank.' 'Bad timing to feature Naga #BlanketyBlank,' one viewer said, followed by a laughing face emoji.

Her Loose Women co-host Denise Welch wrote: '"Good news Coleen congratulations to them both.' Coleen shares Ciara with her second husband Ray Fensome, who she divorced from in 2018. Coleen revealed in January that Ciara had gone travelling with no set return date. Discussing 'Empty Nest Syndrome', the former singer admitted to her fellow panellists Ruth Langsford, Janet Street-Porter and Linda Robson that she has been struggling to cope with the huge family change. Coleen said: 'They've worked really hard and saved up and I'm so proud of them both and her, but honestly, I just can't stop crying... 'But I'm trying not to do it in front of her because I'm thrilled and I'm proud because what an amazing thing to do. But it's like losing my best friend.' 'Oh she is being allowed. I don't have to like it, Janet,' replied Coleen, with Janet remarking: 'I know you don't like it but you have got to grow up a bit Coleen. I never thought I'd say those words. But you have got to manage by yourself.' Although Ciara had already moved out of the family house in October last year, the Loose Women star found it harder to cope with her daughter's oversea trip. A source previously told New!: 'Coleen has always tried to be a hands-on mum, even when she and her sisters were touring during The Nolans' heyday, she always wanted them around. She even toured while she was pregnant with Jake... 'Coleen's once bustling farmhouse does feel empty without her children... 'But she's not alone in feeling like this. Her nephew Danny, her sister Maureen's son, has moved to the States with his family, so Coleen and Maureen are in the same boat. They'll be supporting each other, despite their busy schedules.'

Major EastEnders star is 'revealed as new landlady at the Queen Vic' after owners Linda and Elaine put iconic pub up for sale
Albert Square's next landlady at the Queen Vic pub has been revealed after owners Linda Carter and her mum Elaine Peacock were forced to put it up for sale. Leopard print-loving loudmouth Kat Moon, played by Jessie Wallace, is set to take over the EastEnders pub in her third time working behind the bar. She previously worked at the boozer alongside ex-husband Alfie Moon from 2010 to 2013. A source told The Sun: 'This will be Kat's third time working in the Queen Vic, but this will be her first time at the helm. 'It's a full-circle moment for the character, as when she first moved on to Albert Square in 2000, Kat gained employment as a barmaid at the pub. Then, ten years on, she helped Alfie. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'But now she's going to be the sole licensee of the boozer and it will kick-start a whole new chapter for the pub.' Kat has already been part of the soap's biggest storylines, including Alfie's prostate cancer battle and a failed marriage to Phil Mitchell. Kat's new job comes as she has tied the knot with Alfie (Shane Richie) for the third time this week — more than two decades after first saying 'I do'. The sale of the boozer comes after it blew up in February, claiming the lives of Martin Fowler (James Bye) and killer accountant Reiss Colwell (Jonny Freeman). MailOnline have contacted EastEnders' representatives for comment. In another major shake-up, Bobby Brazier is leaving his role on EastEnders after three years. The actor, 22, joined the soap in 2022 as Freddy Slater and even won the National Television Award for Rising Star for his work on the show. But Bobby has been inundated with other offers since taking part on Strictly Come Dancing in 2023. A source told The Sun: 'This will be Kat's third time working in the Queen Vic, but this will be her first time at the helm. It's a full-circle moment for the character, as when she first moved on to Albert Square in 2000, Kat gained employment as a barmaid at the pub' According to The Sun, the actor will leave Albert Square later this year. An EastEnders spokeswoman said: 'We can confirm that Bobby Brazier will be leaving EastEnders, and we wish him all the best for the future.' A source added: 'Bosses had a meeting with Bobby only recently as they had a plan in mind for a storyline, and it just so happened that Bobby was also thinking that now was the right time to look for other opportunities outside the show. 'The timing of the decision worked for both, but his final scenes are not for a while yet. The character has had a great run, but the time is now right for Bobby to look for other opportunities, and for EastEnders to wave goodbye to Freddie Slater.'

EastEnders star Shane Richie reveals cancer storyline has saved lives
SHANE Richie has revealed that EastEnders has saved lives following his powerful prostate cancer storyline. The actor, 61, loveable Alfie Moon in the BBC One soap, embarked on the hard-hitting storyline nearly two years ago, to raise vital awareness and encourage more men to get checked out. 2 2 One in eight men will get prostate cancer in their lifetime, according to Prostate UK, who along with Macmillan Cancer Support, worked with Shane and the EastEnders writing team on the storyline. And now, the popular actor and entertainer, reveals the huge impact Alfie's cancer story has had. He said: 'I was going to events, men my age were coming up to me, but mostly women, wives saying 'thank you so much for covering that storyline, because my husband, my brother... they don't want to go to the doctors.' 'One guy in particular, and I don't personally take credit for saving his life, but that storyline did. 'He got checked. His daughter was a big EastEnders fan, and just quite casually said, come on, we love Alfie, you should go and get checked and he did just to appease his daughter. 'He found out he had prostate cancer but it was at the early stages, had it left in any longer it could have been fatal. So if we just save one life, that's the power of soaps.' This week viewers will see Alfie once again struggle with intimacy, a common side effect of his cancer treatment, as he prepares to marry Kat, actress Jessie Wallace, 53, for a third time. I did a lot of stuff before I became Alfie so they're very accommodating, hopefully again next year I'll do the same thing, another tour.' He said: 'We got approached by Netflix to go behind the scenes, and we were like, not a hope in hell!.' Explaining how they weren't tempted by the offer he said: 'No, because once we do it the gags are gone. Maybe in five years time if we're all still alive we may do it.'
