The Sun07-06-2025
SHANE Richie has revealed that EastEnders has saved lives following his powerful prostate cancer storyline.
The actor, 61, loveable Alfie Moon in the BBC One soap, embarked on the hard-hitting storyline nearly two years ago, to raise vital awareness and encourage more men to get checked out.

One in eight men will get prostate cancer in their lifetime, according to Prostate UK, who along with Macmillan Cancer Support, worked with Shane and the EastEnders writing team on the storyline.
And now, the popular actor and entertainer, reveals the huge impact Alfie's cancer story has had.
He said: 'I was going to events, men my age were coming up to me, but mostly women, wives saying 'thank you so much for covering that storyline, because my husband, my brother... they don't want to go to the doctors.'
'One guy in particular, and I don't personally take credit for saving his life, but that storyline did.
'He got checked. His daughter was a big EastEnders fan, and just quite casually said, come on, we love Alfie, you should go and get checked and he did just to appease his daughter.
'He found out he had prostate cancer but it was at the early stages, had it left in any longer it could have been fatal. So if we just save one life, that's the power of soaps.'
This week viewers will see Alfie once again struggle with intimacy, a common side effect of his cancer treatment, as he prepares to marry Kat, actress Jessie Wallace, 53, for a third time.
Shane filmed the emotional scenes before going off on an extended break where he spent a month touring with best mates, Bradley Walsh, Brian Conley and Joe Pasquale.
Dubbed The Prat Pack! the quartet performed all over the country, and provided Shane with a welcomed respite from Alfie's cancer story.
Shane said: 'It was one of the most brilliant experiences I've had in a long time.

'EastEnders are brilliant at letting me go off. I did a lot of stuff before I became Alfie so they're very accommodating, hopefully again next year I'll do the same thing, another tour.'
Shane also revealed how they turned down a big money deal from streaming giant Netflix to film the tour.
He said: 'We got approached by Netflix to go behind the scenes, and we were like, not a hope in hell!.'
Explaining how they weren't tempted by the offer he said: 'No, because once we do it the gags are gone. Maybe in five years time if we're all still alive we may do it.'
Shane was speaking on the red carpet at the British Soap Awards where EastEnders scooped eight gongs. Fans can watch the ceremony on ITVX.

has been praised after showing her struggles in getting her four-year-old son Charlie to bed. The actress, 35, took to Instagram on Wednesday and shared a video of her hectic nighttime routine with her son. In the video, the former Coronation Street star said: 'Charlie I love you, can you come over to mummy please.' Charlie then sprinted across the screen as Helen added: 'Charlie can you listen please because I love you and want to give you a cuddle?' She then suggested he go to bed in the cot and he then went over for a hug. 'Do you love your mummy?' she asked. 'Yes,' he replied. Helen then put Charlie's hand on her heart and said: 'I am calm, I love my mummy,' which Charlie repeated. The actress said the pair could watch a film but needed to relax and they could 'go crazy' again in the morning. In a legnthy video caption, Helen admitted she struggles with how much energy her son has when she tries to put him to bed. Love my little boy to death he's so beautiful, he just has SO much energy.' Helen shares Charlie and her two daughters Matilda and Delilah with her ex-fiancé Scott Sinclair. Bewildered EastEnders fans fear for beloved star missing from show since 2024

EastEnders fans have been left concerned after realising that a beloved star has been missing from Albert Square since February. In recent scenes, Julie Bates (Karen Henthorn) introduced her chickens to Walford, and it is safe to say that they have been quite a nuisance for the neighbours. The arrival of the new pets got some fans thinking, and they realised that one furry friend has been missing for quite some time… Bewildered viewers have now taken to social media to question the whereabouts of Tyson the dog, and they've been left fearing the worst. Tyson, played by canine actor Spud, first appeared on the Square in June 2023 as Anna Knight's (Molly Rainford) beloved pet chihuahua. His last appearance on screen was on Christmas Day 2024, when the Knights were preparing for a busy evening in the Queen Vic. The episode itself saw Cindy Beale's (Michelle Collins) antics exposed to everyone, as a recording of her confessing that she loved George Knight (Colin Salmon) and had slept with Junior Knight (Micah Balfour) was played over the sound system. Since that dramatic day, the Vic has suffered an even bigger catastrophe, with Cindy at the heart of the problem once again. After it was revealed that Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) had attacked her on Christmas Day and left her for dead, Cindy pushed Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) in front of Reiss Colwell's speeding car, causing him to veer off the road and straight into the pub. The resulting crash caused carnage in the iconic boozer, with the whole place exploding and collapsing, with Reiss and Martin Fowler losing their lives in the process. While the damage was repaired, the Knights and Carters moved out of the pub, and have since sold up and permanently relocated elsewhere. However, during all of this unrest, Tyson has been nowhere to be seen! 'I've just remembered, who the hell has got Tyson the dog? Gina hasn't, Anna's in Spain and George is sleeping on couches. This dog has just been forgotten about,' Twitter/X user @Kezarus1 wrote in June, and two months on, fans are still wondering the same thing. User @realseanslater wrote: 'Why are we getting new pets on the square when we haven't seen tyson since last year. Did he burn to ash in the anniversary fire? I fear we'll never know. And what about rocky's parrot?' They aren't the only fan worried about Tyson's wellbeing, with @daisyreenie replying: 'I really hope tyson didn't die in the fire'. More Trending 'I really miss Tyson tbh,' @LauraM01234 added. With actress Molly Rainford set to leave her role as Anna Knight, could she be set to move away from Walford and take Tyson with her? Or will fans' worst fears be realised? View More » Will we ever see Tyson the dog again? Strictly Come Dancing winner issues two-word advice to 2025 contestants The full line-up of Strictly Come Dancing has been announced as a new group of celebrities are preparing to make their debut on the BBC show. The countdown is on for the new series of Strictly Come Dancing as the BBC show is set to air next month. ‌ Last week, the full line-up of stars were revealed, including the likes of Dani Dyer, Thomas Skinner, Vicky Pattison and George Clarke. ‌ However, fans of the BBC show have to wait to see which celebrity will be matched with the returning professionals, including the addition of two newcomers, Alexis Warr and Julian Caillon. ‌ Although the stars have been spotted making their way into rehearsals over the past few days, they are getting ready to make their Strictly debut in September. Joe said: "Enjoy every minute! It's funny because we have mutual friends so I have said this advice to him personally. Enjoy every minute, do what your partner tells you to an extent and just throw yourself into it." Rounding his advice up in two-words, the Strictly champ added: "Be yourself! That's the hard thing, I think you're out there with all the bells and whistles. ‌ Joe won the competition back in 2017 with Katya Jones (Image: PA) "The sparkles and the costumes, you think, 'Oh, I've got to be something other than what you are,' you really don't have to do that. Just have the experience that you're having and be honest about that." Joe's advice comes as fans think contestant George Clarke has revealed who he has been matched with ahead of the launch show. ‌ In an episode of his The Useless Hotline podcast, the YouTube star explained he was paired with professional Lauren Oakley during the auditions and rehearsed with her for an hour. Has George dropped which professional he's been matched with? (Image: PA) He said: "I've not met anyone apart from, I believe, her name's Lauren, who was the pro that I met. Article continues below "We had an interview for it, so it's like an hour-long interview, and then like an hour-long dance session just to see where you're at." Could fans see George matched with Lauren this year? Strictly Come Dancing is set to air next month on BBC One.
