Bangladesh Drop Najmul Hossain Shanto For Sri Lanka T20Is
Last Updated: Shanto has managed to cross the 50-run mark in his last 20 T20I matches for the Bangladesh men's cricket team. Bangladesh on Friday (July 4) dropped former captain Najmul Hossain Shanto for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. The three T20Is between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are scheduled to take place at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on July 10, Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium on July 13, and R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on July 16, respectively. In the 16-member squad announced by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), all-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin has managed to find a place in the T20I team after a gap of one year, along with fast bowlers Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, and Mustafizur Rahman, and spinner Nasum Ahmed. But Soumya Sarkar, Hasan Mahmud, Tanvir Islam, Nahid Rana, and Khaled Ahmed are out along with Shanto. Litton Das will continue to lead the Bangladeshi team. Squad: Litton Kumar Das (Captain), Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Parvez Hossain Emon, Mohammad Naim Sheikh, Towhid Hridoy, Jaker Ali Anik, Shamim Hossain Patwari, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Rishad Hossain, Shak Mahedi Hasan, Nasum Ahmed, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Mohammad Saifuddin. Shanto's record in T20Is Since making his T20I debut for Bangladesh against Zimbabwe in Chattogram on September 18, 2019, Shanto has played 50 T20Is and, with the help of four half-centuries, has amassed a total of 987 runs. He played a T20I match for Bangladesh against UAE in Sharjah on May 19 and scored 27 runs. Shanto, who was retained as Bangladesh Test captain for the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka last month, stepped down from his role after his team suffered a defeat by an innings and 78 runs in the second red-ball match played at SSC in Colombo from June 25 to 28. 'I have an announcement to make," Shanto told reporters. 'I am stepping down from the Bangladesh Test captaincy. I don't want to continue as captain in this format, and I want to give a clear message to everyone: this is not a personal matter. It is entirely for the betterment of the team, and I believe this will help the team. If the cricket board feels they will continue with three captains in three formats, that will be their decision."

Bangladesh drop Najmul Hossain Shanto for T20I series against Sri Lanka
Bangladesh have made five changes to their T20I squad for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka. The biggest of them was dropping Najmul Hossain Shanto, who had stepped down as their T20I skipper earlier this year in January. Shanto was also a part of the T20I series against Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), but played only one of six matches. advertisementApart from Shanto, the Tigers also dropped Khaled Ahmed, Tanvir Islam, Hasan Mahmud and Soumya Sarkar. Mohammad Naim, Nasum Ahmed, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, and Mohammad Saifuddin have made their comebacks for Bangladesh. The 28-year-old Saifuddin lost his place in the team after a poor outing in the T20I series against Zimbabwe and also missed the T20 World Cup. He took a two-month break from the game in August to reset, after which he made a strong comeback in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and Dhaka Premier League (DPL) where he claimed 37 wickets. In place of Shanto, Bangladesh opted for Naim, the leading run-scorer in both the BPL and NCL T20s. He amassed 827 runs at an impressive average of 37.59 and a strike rate of 140.40, including one century and six duo Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman have also made their return to the squad after recovering from injuries. Both featured in the first ODI against Sri Lanka on Wednesday, marking their T20Is Sri Lanka will take place on July 10, 13 and 16 in Pallekele, Dambulla and Colombo respectively. Bangladesh squad for Sri Lanka T20Is Litton Das (capt, wk), Tanzid Hasan, Parvez Hossain Emon, Mohammad Naim, Towhid Hridoy, Jaker Ali, Shamim Hossain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Rishad Hossain, Mahedi Hasan, Nasum Ahmed, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Mohammad Saifuddin.- EndsMust Watch

Bangladesh ring in changes for Sri Lanka T20I series
Bangladesh have announced a heavily revamped squad for their upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka later this month. The three-match series will see games played on July 10 in Pallekele, July 13 in Dambulla, and July 16 in Colombo. The most notable omission from the squad is former captain Najmul Hossain Shanto. He was part of the team during Bangladesh's last T20I series in May against Pakistan and the UAE but played in only one of the six matches. This comes on the back of an underwhelming 2024, where Shanto struggled with the bat in 21 T20Is, managing just one half-century and averaging 18.84. Having stepped down from the T20I captaincy in January, he now finds himself completely out of the squad. Left hander Mohammad Naim has been roped into the squad as the new opener in place of Shanto. Naim had a solid domestic season where he was the highest run-getter in both the BPL and NCL T20s, finishing on 827 runs at an average of 37.59 average and a strike rate of 140.40, including a century and six fifties. Bangladesh have also been bolstered by the return of pace duo Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman, both of whom have recovered from injuries and recently featured in the first ODI against Sri Lanka. Another notable inclusion is Mohammad Saifuddin, making a comeback to the national setup after over a year. The pacer had taken a break from cricket following his omission from Bangladesh's 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup squad but has returned in fine form, claiming 37 wickets across the BPL and DPL — the country's premier white-ball competitions. The final change sees Nasum Ahmed brought into the squad in place of Tanvir Islam in the spin department, as Bangladesh continues its search for a dependable left-arm spinner in the white-ball formats. Bangladesh squad: Litton Das (capt), Tanzid Hasan, Parvez Hossain Emon, Mohammad Naim, Towhid Hridoy, Jaker Ali, Shamim Hossain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Rishad Hossain, Mahedi Hasan, Nasum Ahmed, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Mohammad Saifuddin. Bangladesh stunned as seven wickets fall for five runs
Sri Lanka forced a spectacular Bangladesh collapse by taking seven wickets for five runs, after captain Charith Asalanka had hit a century, to win the one-day international series opener by 77 runs. Asalanka, whose knock of 106 included four sixes, had won the toss and elected to bat first. His team were bowled out for 244 with four deliveries remaining in the final over in Colombo on Wednesday. Bangladesh were cruising at 1-100 in the 17th over when Milan Rathnayake's classy piece of fielding to run out Najmul Hossain Shanto on 23 shifted the momentum. That fielding effort ended a 71-run partnership for the second wicket between Shanto and Tanzid Hasan that led eventually to Bangladesh being dismissed for 167 runs in the 36th over. Shanto played a shot to deep square leg and called for two quick runs but Rathnayake picked up the ball and swung it right on top of the wicket in one motion catching a diving Shanto on the crease when wicketkeeper Kusal Mendis removed the bails. Sri Lanka's leg spin bowler Wanindu Hasaranga (4-10), called to bowl the next over, took two wickets for two runs, trapping Litton Das (0) lbw and Hasan to a brilliant diving catch by Janith Liyanage. Hasan scored 62 runs off 61 deliveries. In the next over, spin bowler Kamindu Mendis bowled Towhid Hridoy (1). Hasaranga returned to bowl the next over and in the first ball trapped Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz (0) lbw, leaving Bangladesh on 6-103. Then Kamindu Mendis had Tanzim Hasan Sakib (1) caught by Maheesh Theekshana and trapped Taskin Ahmed (0) and Bangladesh were 8-105. Bangladesh No. 7 Jaker Ali was out last, after scoring his third ODI half-century. He faced 64 deliveries for his 51 runs including four boundaries and four sixes. Hasaranga returned best bowling figures for Sri Lanka taking 4-10, while Kamindu Mendis claimed a career-best 3-19. Earlier, Bangladesh opening bowlers Taskin Ahmed and Tansim Hasan Sakib bowled tight lines and dried up runs forcing Sri Lankan opening batters into false shots. Sakib dismissed Pathum Nissanka without scoring, forcing an edge off him to wicketkeeper Litton Das in the fourth over. Nissanka's opening partner Nishan Madushka (6) fell in the next over trying to chase a ball from Taskin outside the off stump and dragging it to the wicket. When Asalanka joined Kusal Mendis, the pair added 60 runs off 77 deliveries for the fourth wicket. Asalanka brought up his fifth one-day century, hitting four sixes and six boundaries off 123 balls.
