Shanto has managed to cross the 50-run mark in his last 20 T20I matches for the Bangladesh men's cricket team.
Bangladesh on Friday (July 4) dropped former captain Najmul Hossain Shanto for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. The three T20Is between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are scheduled to take place at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on July 10, Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium on July 13, and R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on July 16, respectively.
In the 16-member squad announced by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), all-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin has managed to find a place in the T20I team after a gap of one year, along with fast bowlers Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, and Mustafizur Rahman, and spinner Nasum Ahmed. But Soumya Sarkar, Hasan Mahmud, Tanvir Islam, Nahid Rana, and Khaled Ahmed are out along with Shanto.
Litton Das will continue to lead the Bangladeshi team.
Squad: Litton Kumar Das (Captain), Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Parvez Hossain Emon, Mohammad Naim Sheikh, Towhid Hridoy, Jaker Ali Anik, Shamim Hossain Patwari, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Rishad Hossain, Shak Mahedi Hasan, Nasum Ahmed, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Mohammad Saifuddin.
Shanto's record in T20Is
Since making his T20I debut for Bangladesh against Zimbabwe in Chattogram on September 18, 2019, Shanto has played 50 T20Is and, with the help of four half-centuries, has amassed a total of 987 runs.
He played a T20I match for Bangladesh against UAE in Sharjah on May 19 and scored 27 runs.
Shanto, who was retained as Bangladesh Test captain for the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka last month, stepped down from his role after his team suffered a defeat by an innings and 78 runs in the second red-ball match played at SSC in Colombo from June 25 to 28.
'I have an announcement to make," Shanto told reporters. 'I am stepping down from the Bangladesh Test captaincy. I don't want to continue as captain in this format, and I want to give a clear message to everyone: this is not a personal matter. It is entirely for the betterment of the team, and I believe this will help the team. If the cricket board feels they will continue with three captains in three formats, that will be their decision."

AUS vs SA, 2nd T20I: South Africa levels series after Brevis ton flattens Australia

South Africa levelled the three-match T20I series against Australia after Dewald Brevis smashed an unbeaten 125 off 56 balls to set up its emphatic 53-run victory in the second match in Darwin on Tuesday. Brevis smashed the highest score by a South African batter in a T20 International to power the tourist to a commanding 218 for seven despite a top-order wobble at the Marrara Stadium. AS IT HAPPENED: AUS vs SA 2nd T20I Highlights Australia was bundled out for 165 in 17.4 overs as its nine-match winning streak in the format came to an end. Player of the match, Brevis said after being reminded of his record: 'I haven't really thought of it like that, to be honest, but I'm just extremely grateful to God, and it's been great. 'You obviously want to win and come back stronger after the first game, so that was fantastic. Everyone played their part, whatever it was. We took our catches, the guys nailed their plans, and it was just great.' Put in to bat, South Africa began briskly but slumped to 57 for three inside seven overs, with skipper Aiden Markram among the dismissed trio. Australia part-time spinner Glenn Maxwell, who opened the attack with Josh Hazlewood, had Markram (18) caught at mid-off and removed Lhuan-dre Pretorius (10) stumped in his next over. Brevis combined with Tristan Stubbs (31) and counter-attacked in spectacular fashion to prop up South Africa. The 22-year-old raced to a 41-ball hundred, his first in T20 Internationals, and remained unbeaten after a knock studded with eight sixes and 12 fours. Teenaged left-arm pacer Kwena Maphaka (3/57) conceded five fours in his first over but claimed the important wicket of Cameron Green and returned to remove Maxwell and Mitchell Owen. Tim David (50) hit his second half-century of the series but Australia kept losing wickets, which derailed its chase. The teams meet in Cairns on Saturday for the decider.

‘Criticism shows people care': Ellyse Perry welcomes scrutiny as sign of women's cricket growth

One of the great modern-day women cricketers, Australia's Ellyse Perry, has welcomed the increased scrutiny that women's cricketers face these days, saying it is good for the game. Perry was referring to the media scrutiny England faced after being thrashed in the Women's Ashes earlier this year. Australia whitewashed England 16-0 in the multi-format Women's Ashes, and what quickly followed for England was widespread criticism of their performance. Perry believes this shows people care about their game. 'It shows that people care, and people expect a certain level of performance from their elite female teams and they are passionate about it,' Perry told BBC Sport. 'That's a far cry from where the women's game was five to 10 years ago. So while criticism and being held to account isn't always pleasant, equally it's very positive for the direction of the game and shows it's being taken really seriously,' she added. Continuing her perspective, Perry said: 'People expect more (now we are paid more), and all we've wanted is to be taken seriously and respected for how we play the game and the level we can take it to. With that comes pressure to perform. There will be moments where that's hard to handle and it's challenging, but it's also exactly what the game needs.' Australia won the ODI and T20I series 3-0 while beating England by an innings and 122 runs in the one-off Day-Night Test. Perry defended the English side, saying the result was a 'bit of an anomaly.' 'It's really easy to get caught up in the scoreline without seeing the bigger picture,' said Perry. 'There are amazing players in that English team – world-class players who can win a game from anywhere. It was a moment in time. It was great for us and our fans during our home summer, but I feel it was probably a bit of an anomaly. The next time we meet, it'll be different circumstances – maybe in a World Cup. It's a moment that has passed, not something we want to get stuck on or gloat about because cricket is so fickle; things can change quickly,' she said.
