Ed Sheeran launches exhibition of his Cosmic Carpark Paintings in London

The 34-year-old will sell the artworks and prints at the end of the exhibition, which opens on July 11 and runs until August 1, to raise money the Ed Sheeran Foundation – which aims to provide inclusive, high-quality music education for every child. Sheeran said: 'I started painting at the end of my Divide Tour in 2019 and it's something that I've used as a creative outlet ever since. 'When I was growing up, both of my parents worked in art, so I've naturally always been interested in it, and I always enjoyed studying art at school. I was back and forth on tour last year, and I used a lot of my downtime in the UK to paint. 'I'd run to a disused car park in Soho each morning, paint, then run home and I'd do that daily until I headed back out on tour again. 'I told my good friends Damien Hirst and Joe Hage about the paintings, and they encouraged me to put on my own thing. 'So I decided I'd use it as a way of raising funds for my Ed Sheeran Foundation, which supports music education in the UK and helps fund grassroot music projects, schools and equipment, so all kids have access to music. 'I want to thank Damien and Joe for everything they've done for me on this exhibition and I'm delighted to be putting it on.' In 2020, one of the Shape Of You singer's paintings was used as the single cover for his track Afterglow, with his latest collection being painted in a disused car park in London last year. The paintings were initially designed to be gifted to the Halifax-born star's friends and family, however artist Hirst encouraged him to put on an exhibition to raise money for his foundation, giving the public their first chance to own his artwork. Some 50% of the net sale price from each painting will be donated to the Ed Sheeran Foundation, with the works available on the Heni website between July 10 and August 1. Admission to the exhibition is free. Sheeran has had 14 UK number one singles and eight UK number one albums, his best known songs include The A Team, Lego House, Sing, and Don't.

LONDON - British pop star Ed Sheeran has swapped a microphone for paint brushes, with the fruits of his endeavours to go on display later this week, the London gallery exhibiting his works confirmed on July 9. The abstract pieces – colourful Jackson Pollock-esque paintings and prints – will be available to buy, with part of the proceeds going to the Ed Sheeran Foundation, which supports musical education in schools. They are also set to be exhibited at Heni art gallery in central London from July 11 until Aug 1, with the collection called Cosmic Carpark Paintings, the gallery said. Sheeran, 34, took to social media on July 8 to share the news, explaining he worked on the paintings in between shows in 2024. The singer behind smash hits like Shape Of You (2017) and Perfect (2017) also shared a video of his painting process at work, showing him splashing large canvases with brightly coloured paint. 'I love painting, more for fun and to give to friends, but this time I was encouraged to do a show of them by (English artist) Damien Hirst and Heni,' he wrote. 'I paint when I'm not working on a record, just to do something creative with my brain. And it's mostly just splashing colours on canvases, think Jackson Pollock but with colourful house paint.' While the site did not reveal the exact numbers, it was confirmed that a Brit superstar had been lucky enough to bag the top position. Whilst crooner The Weeknd and hip-hop hunk Drake found themselves in second and third position, they were unable to know the British chart-topper from the global number one spot. But can you guess who it is? It is of course, Ed Sheeran. The singer's track, Shape Of You, has been confirmed to be Apple Music's most streamed song ever. The track went to number one across the globe and will come as no surprise to music fanatics that it is the most played track ever on the streaming service. Blinding Lights by The Weeknd fell into second place whilst Drake's track, God's Plan, rounded out the top three. Hip-hop music largely dominated the top ten with Post Malone bagging the fourth and fifth spots. His Swae Lee collaboration, Sunflower, was the fourth most streamed track, whilst his hit, Rockstar, came in fifth. Ed Sheeran teams up with school pals AND 00s rock legend for epic performance Drake made his second appearance at number six with One Dance followed by fellow rapper, Travis Scott, in seventh with his monster hit, Sicko Mode. Brit star Ed was back in the top ten with his ballad, Perfect, at number eight, followed by R&B legend Chris Brown's duet with Drake, No Guidance, at position nine. Billie Eilish closed out the top ten with her track - Bad Guy. This meant that Billie was the only woman to place in the top 10 of the list. Rapper Drake appears on the top 500 more than any other artist with a total of 27 entries. Apple Music's Top 50 Most Streamed Songs Apple Music has released its 500 most played songs of all time.
