BMW fever hits Muldersdrift with Beemer fest [PICTURES]
Beemer fest 2025drew scores of BMW enthusiasts to Muldersdrift, where a showcase of both classic and modern BMWs was on display. BMW owners and fans had the opportunity to get together and share their passion for the brand. I know BMW purists will tell me that a 'beemer' refers to a bike and not a 'bimmer', which is the car. Organisers of the brand, Carcandy Inc., chose a name that the South African car scene is familiar with, Beemer. There are already hugely successful BMW forums, such as SA Beemer, that have adopted the 'incorrect' name. There was also an opportunity for businesses in the BMW scene to display some of the cars they have worked on. A purpose-built BMW E36 racing car on display at Beemer Fest, 1 June 2025. One of the cars on display was 'Nkabi', which we featured when the car went to the UK and won a top-five spot at Gravity. The Chicanos Customs display at Beemer fest 2025, 1 June 2025. The show once again has proven that South Africans have a deep-rooted love for BMW. ALSO WATCH: SA's Vato and Chicanos Customs win big at Gravity 2024 [VIDEO]

Affirmative-action measures must ‘not go too far', argues DA in court
The DA takes on 13 respondents in court over the Employment Equity Amendment Act. Picture for illustration. Residents from the predominantly coloured community of Westbury march against the proposed Employment equity act that which they say has been put into place to prevent them from getting work, 12 June 2023, Westbury, Johannesburg. Protestors peacefully marched to different government and private businesses in the area to hand over their memorandum. Picture: Shaun Holland The DA's legal representative, Ismail Jamie, has argued that the Employment Equity Amendment Act is rigid and a one-size-fits-all, and that it should not be allowed to proceed in its current state. President Cyril Ramaphosa signed the Employment Equity Amendment Act into law in April 2023. The Presidency said at the time that the Act's aim was to reduce the regulatory burden for small employers, allowing them to focus on job creation. ALSO READ: Employment Equity Act amendments to come into effect on 1 January 2025 Small businesses that employ fewer than 50 employees are no longer bound to comply with Chapter III of the Employment Equity Act, 1998 (EEA), for example, regarding the submission of their EE reports starting from the 2025 EE Reporting period. The Act also empowers the labour minister to regulate the sector-specific numerical EE targets. On Tuesday, the DA was in the High Court in Pretoria, challenging thirteen respondents, including the minister of Employment and Labour, Commission for Employment Equity, speaker of the National Assembly, chairperson of the National Council of Provinces and all premiers. ALSO READ: Changes to Employment Equity Act will cut legislative red tape for small businesses The Amendment Act is not yet in effect. Employment Equity Amendment Act: 'Be careful' The DA argued in court that although the constitution permits the adoption of affirmative-action measures to realise the constitutional promise of substantive equality, it must be approached with caution. 'Affirmative-action measures must be approached with caution because they can invade the dignity of those who are not preferred by them,' argued the DA. ALSO READ: Government set to revise employment equity targets The party said these measures must 'not go too far' and unduly invade the human dignity of those affected by them 'Whether an affirmative-action measure is constitutionally permissible depends on the context, and so, rigid or one-size-fits-all approaches are generally unconstitutional.' The Act, in its unamended state, requires every employer with 50 or more employees to conduct an analysis of its workforce to determine the extent to which people from designated groups (i.e., people of colour, women and people with disabilities) are underrepresented at various occupational levels. It calls on employers to prepare and implement an employment equity plan, which must include numerical goals to remedy any underrepresentation identified in the analysis. ALSO READ: White dominance in top jobs sparks union outcry 'Currently, and crucially, this obligation is context-sensitive. Every designated employer is required to formulate and implement numerical targets which are responsive to its unique position, including the degree of underrepresentation in its workforce and the availability of suitably qualified people from designated groups to remedy that underrepresentation,' argued the DA. Amendment Act in 'rigid' However, the Amendment Act would replace this approach with one that is 'rigid and one-size-fits-all', argued the DA. 'If the Amendment Act comes into effect, every designated employer would have to follow 'numerical targets' set by the labour minister, regardless of the degree of underrepresentation it suffers from and its ability to remedy that underrepresentation.' If an employer fails to make its workforce fit the particular demographic composition required by the relevant ministerial target, the employer will face severe penalties, including the inability to do business with the state, the cancellation of existing state contracts, compelling orders and fines. The case continues. READ NEXT: Ramaphosa admits SA is falling short in fixing economic inequality

WATCH: Jetour G700 shows its face at JETOUR World Lounge
The Jetour G700 silently showed its face at the JETOUR World Lounge in Shanghai at their business banquet. Over the past six years, Jetour has been building its global footprint by introducing the brand to 80 markets and counting. The fairly new automotive brand has sold more than 1.6 million cars since its establishment in 2019 and, in doing so, has become the first car manufacturer to achieve this milestone. Picture: Shaun Holland The Jetour Dashing was the first model to be launched in South Africa in late 2024, and since then, they announced the arrival of the Jetour T1 and T2 in late 2025. The Citizen was invited as a guest of Jetour at the JETOUR World lounge, for a business conference, where they invited media from around the world to join them. On Tuesday, they quietly revealed the G700 at a business banquet they hosted for media and investors at Jetour World Lounge in Shanghai. Picture: Shaun Holland Guests were treated to a dazzling evening of live entertainment where they sneakily parked the Jetour G700 and Jetour T2 on stage. During the banquet, Jetour representatives did not even acknowledge the model or inform guests about the G700. We had to do some investing when we discovered that the Jetour G700 is destined for South Africa, although we will have to wait until 2026/2027. The brand has grown in popularity in South Africa, and in March 2025, it achieved its best sales month with more than 600 cars sold.
