Dubai celebrated the 78th anniversary of Pakistan's Independence Day with a major gathering at the Dubai Exhibition Centre, Expo City Dubai, attended by more than 60,000 people and featuring cultural performances, community recognition, and announcements to strengthen UAE–Pakistan ties. The event was held under the patronage of Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, and attended by Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, Ambassador of Pakistan to the UAE, alongside diplomats, officials, business leaders, and members of the Pakistani community. Organised by the Emirates Loves Pakistan platform, in cooperation with the Pakistan Association Dubai and supported by Dubai Police, the celebration underscored the deep-rooted diplomatic, economic, and cultural bonds between the two nations. Dubai celebrates Pakistan Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan said: 'It is an honour to join you in commemorating Pakistan's Independence Day. I extend my warmest congratulations to you all and to the people of Pakistan on this momentous occasion. 'I share your pride in celebrating what this day signifies for Pakistanis worldwide, a testament to a robust national identity, resilience, determination, achievement, and optimism for the future. 'Here in Dubai, we also celebrate the deep bonds of friendship and brotherhood uniting Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates. 'Our steadfast relationship is founded on shared values, cultural heritage, mutual respect, and a collective vision for peace and prosperity. The UAE stands with Pakistan as a friend and partner. 'These ties are strengthened daily through the invaluable contributions of the Pakistani community, whose talent, dedication, and creativity enrich the fabric of our country. 'The partnership between the UAE and Pakistan exemplifies the fraternal bonds essential for fostering social and economic prosperity globally. I am delighted to express my optimism for the bright future awaiting our two nations.' Sheikh Nahyan also announced a national writing competition—'What the UAE Means to Me'—organised by the Watani Al Emarat Foundation and the Ministry of Tolerance and Coexistence, inviting citizens and residents to submit personal stories, poems, or essays in Arabic or English at A ceremony recognised prominent Pakistani individuals for their outstanding contributions in law, education, hospitality, banking, real estate, media, sports, and community service. Honourees included: Bashir Ahmed and Masood Haider Afridi – Afridi & Angell law firm founders Abdul Salam and Shahida Salam – Founders of Pristine Private School Khan Zaman – Founder of Ibrahimi Palace Restaurant Muhammad Habib – Founder of Habib Bank AG Zurich Sana Mir – Former Pakistan cricket captain, first woman in ICC Hall of Fame Dr. Faisel Ikram, President of the Pakistan Association Dubai, announced a AED45m ($12.25m) expansion of the Pakistan Medical Centre. The new facilities will triple service capacity, adding advanced diagnostics, radiology, dialysis, and expanded physiotherapy. Since its launch in 2020, the PMC has treated more than 140,000 patients from more than 100 nationalities. The UAE and Pakistan established diplomatic relations in 1971, initiated by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Ties span economy, culture, human development, and governance modernisation. The UAE is a major investor in Pakistan, particularly in telecommunications, services, tourism, IT, oil and gas, housing, banking, and real estate. In June 2025, both nations launched a strategic partnership to exchange best practices and strengthen institutional capabilities.

Over 60,000 expected to attend ‘Emirates Loves Pakistan' celebrations in Dubai today

ISLAMABAD: At least 60,000 participants are expected to attend a public celebration event marking Pakistan's 78th Independence Day in Dubai today, Sunday, the UAE's official news agency said. The event titled 'Emirates Loves Pakistan' will be held at the Dubai Exhibition Center in Expo City and will be attended by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, the UAE's minister of tolerance and coexistence, alongside Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, Pakistan's ambassador to the UAE, WAM reported. Diplomats, economic representatives and 'notable social figures' from the Pakistani community in the country will also be at the event, which WAM said is being organized by 'Emirates Loves Pakistan' — a platform dedicated to sharing content that highlights the success stories and contributions of the Pakistani community in the UAE, in collaboration with the Pakistan Association in Dubai, with support from Dubai Police. 'The occasion will feature activities reflecting the cultural heritage, arts, and folklore of Pakistan, as well as acknowledging the historical relations and diplomatic ties between the two nations,' WAM said in a report on Saturday. 'The event, expected to draw approximately 60,000 attendees, will include a ceremony to acknowledge distinguished members of the Pakistani community in the UAE, accompanied by cultural performances, artistic exhibitions, musical presentations, and traditional folklore activities,' it added. The program will also include events to highlight Pakistan's traditions, the contributions of the Pakistani community to the UAE's sustainable development, and a recognition of their achievements, it added. The event will also include live performances by Pakistani singing powerhouses Sahir Ali Bagga, Sufi rock sensation Natasha Baig, and renowned storyteller Yousuf Bashir Qureshi. Pakistan marks its Independence Day each year on August 14 to celebrate the day it secured independence from British rule in India. Pakistan embassies across the world hold special events marking the significance of independence while special programs are held across the country to mark the occasion. The UAE is Pakistan's third-largest trading partner after China and the US, and is considered a critical market due to its geographic proximity and logistical advantages. The Gulf state is also Pakistan's second-largest source of foreign remittances, after Saudi Arabia, with over 1.8 million Pakistani expatriates living and working there.

Abu Dhabi, UAE – Held in collaboration with 25 national and international partners, the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) has launched its Pre-Departure Week during an official ceremony attended by His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence. The program aims to prepare 300 students from ADEK Scholarship programs for their upcoming academic journeys abroad. The program equips students with the skills, knowledge, and mindset needed to represent the UAE with pride and thrive as global citizens. The Pre-Departure Week offers a holistic preparation experience covering academic readiness, cultural adaptation, psychological resilience, and essential life skills. Sessions include leadership development, financial literacy, personal safety abroad, and wellbeing strategies to help students navigate life and studies in their host countries confidently. Program partners include: the Ministry of Defense, Department of Government Enablement, Abu Dhabi Police, Sandooq Al Watan, National Library and Archives, National Rehabilitation Center, Family Care Authority, Abu Dhabi Public Health Center, Authority of Social Contribution – Ma'an, General Authority of Islamic Affairs (AWQAF), Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy (AGDA), 42 Abu Dhabi, International Centre for Culinary Arts, International Etiquette and Protocol Academy, and the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, along with nine foreign embassies contributing their expertise and programming. The Pre-Departure Week is structured around 11 core pillars, developed based on insights from students, parents, and industry partners to provide comprehensive support beyond academic preparation. These pillars cover national identity and cultural preservation, guiding students on how to represent the UAE with integrity, as well as understanding immigration laws and global mobility to ensure they are aware of their rights and responsibilities abroad. The program also addresses health and safety protocols, including infectious disease prevention and personal wellbeing management, while equipping students with knowledge of professional etiquette and diplomatic conduct to prepare them for diverse social and professional environments. Together, these pillars ensure students are fully prepared to integrate confidently into their host communities and excel academically and personally. Beyond theory, the program includes hands-on workshops such as interactive simulations and concludes with a global culinary class at ICCA Abu Dhabi, where students gain practical cooking skills and nutrition knowledge essential for confident, independent living abroad. To date, ADEK has awarded 2,190 scholarships, enabling students to pursue higher education across more than 20 countries. These figures demonstrate the UAE's commitment to nurturing future generations of global citizens by ensuring they excel academically, integrate confidently into their new environments, and uphold the nation's values abroad. Sheikh Nahayan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE's Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, crowned Timble AI as the grand prize winner of the fourth edition of Eureka! GCC of one of Asia's largest business model competitions for startups. The award ceremony took place at Al Habtoor Palace Hotel in Dubai. The event was attended by Sunjay Sudhir, ambassador of India to the UAE, along with senior officials, decision-makers, regional and international investors, mentors, and a wide audience of entrepreneurs and innovation enthusiasts. This year's edition attracted over 300 applications from startups across the GCC and several global markets, including India, Jordan, Turkiye, the United Kingdom, and Pakistan. Thirty companies advanced to the semi-finals and participated in a comprehensive training programme consisting of workshops, strategic consulting sessions, and intensive courses in business modeling and investment pitching. In the final stage, the top 10 startups pitched their ideas to a distinguished judging panel. Timble AI from the UAE stood out with its innovative AI-driven business solutions, securing the top prize. Meanwhile, Electrogenos won the top award in the Sustainable Solutions category, Dreamloop AI took second place overall, and Invoice Mate received the 'Startup Nominee' recognition for excellence in public engagement and storytelling. In his keynote address, Sheikh Nahyan stated, "I am delighted to be with you today for the fourth edition of Eureka! GCC – the largest startup competition in Asia. I commend this valuable initiative by Gulf Islamic Investments (GII), in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, as a vital contribution to the economic development of our region." He added: "This event is a true celebration of the entrepreneurial spirit. Our region – as those who know it can attest has long embraced initiative, risk-taking, and innovation.
