The program aims to prepare 300 students from ADEK Scholarship programs for their upcoming academic journeys abroad. The program equips students with the skills, knowledge, and mindset needed to represent the UAE with pride and thrive as global citizens.
The Pre-Departure Week offers a holistic preparation experience covering academic readiness, cultural adaptation, psychological resilience, and essential life skills. Sessions include leadership development, financial literacy, personal safety abroad, and wellbeing strategies to help students navigate life and studies in their host countries confidently.
Program partners include: the Ministry of Defense, Department of Government Enablement, Abu Dhabi Police, Sandooq Al Watan, National Library and Archives, National Rehabilitation Center, Family Care Authority, Abu Dhabi Public Health Center, Authority of Social Contribution – Ma'an, General Authority of Islamic Affairs (AWQAF), Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy (AGDA), 42 Abu Dhabi, International Centre for Culinary Arts, International Etiquette and Protocol Academy, and the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, along with nine foreign embassies contributing their expertise and programming.
The Pre-Departure Week is structured around 11 core pillars, developed based on insights from students, parents, and industry partners to provide comprehensive support beyond academic preparation. These pillars cover national identity and cultural preservation, guiding students on how to represent the UAE with integrity, as well as understanding immigration laws and global mobility to ensure they are aware of their rights and responsibilities abroad.
The program also addresses health and safety protocols, including infectious disease prevention and personal wellbeing management, while equipping students with knowledge of professional etiquette and diplomatic conduct to prepare them for diverse social and professional environments. Together, these pillars ensure students are fully prepared to integrate confidently into their host communities and excel academically and personally.
Beyond theory, the program includes hands-on workshops such as interactive simulations and concludes with a global culinary class at ICCA Abu Dhabi, where students gain practical cooking skills and nutrition knowledge essential for confident, independent living abroad.
To date, ADEK has awarded 2,190 scholarships, enabling students to pursue higher education across more than 20 countries. These figures demonstrate the UAE's commitment to nurturing future generations of global citizens by ensuring they excel academically, integrate confidently into their new environments, and uphold the nation's values abroad.

Mystery Tobacco Eau De Parfum

Emirati influencer Marwa Al Hashem and Saudi Influencer Daim Al Gaw showcase Mystery Tobacco, the Carolina Herrera Confidential fragrance bringing together the timeline elegance of the brand through the unique perspective of the rising Arab stars in the influencer world. The Carolina Herrera Confidential fragrance embodies the essence of sophistication and luxury, and the collaboration with Marwa Al Hashem and Daim Al Gaw adds a distinct Middle Eastern touch to this captivating fragrance. The regional shooting showcases the fusion of cultures, capturing the spirit of modern elegance and beauty. There is nothing as mysterious as an incomplete memory, half-suggested by a word, a color or a scent - Mystery Tobacco gives off that kind of magic. Its fruity notes and its smoky atmosphere evoke the story of Pepito Herrera, uncle of Reinaldo Herrera, one of the lavish characters that populate the memory of La Hacienda La Vega, the emblematic Caracas estate linked to the family where Carolina Herrera resided during part of her youth, and what later inspired her to create the namesake fashion brand. Those gardens and historic buildings – the foundation of this architectural complex dates from the sixteenth century – still kept the echo of the glittering guests, almost from other worlds, who had frequented it, from Princess Margaret and Prince Charles of England to Salvador Dalí or Christian Dior. However, from those stories she heard at family gatherings, Carolina A. Herrera, creative director of fragrances at Carolina Herrera, retained the fascination with the adventures of Uncle Pepito, a man born at the same time as the twentieth century and endowed with an unlimited passion for travel. "He was like the Phileas Fogg of the family; every time I sat in front of the world map that Dad had in his office and pointed to any point on the planet, someone told me that 'Uncle Pepito had been there,'" recalls Carolina A. Herrera. "From Egypt to Japan, from Patagonia to Alaska, from Turkey to Madagascar, there was always a story, a memory or an anecdote that referred to Pepito, a man of whom I barely remember a few features: he always dressed exceptionally elegantly, with a cross suit and English shoes, he knew several languages and he used to use a fragrance of vetiver whose wake was mixed with that of the blond tobacco he smoked in exquisitely designed pipes that he had collected on his travels around the world," he says. That was not only a picturesque figure, but a real influence for Carolina Herrera. "My mother always affirms that her passion for traveling comes from those stories that Pepito Herrera told her," explains Carolina A. Herrera. "Thanks to them he discovered the power of travel to broaden the mind and know the world." Since then and until today, the designer has traveled the entire planet trying to throw on each object, place and person the curious, unprejudiced and free look of Pepito Herrera. From those few features, composed with loose brushstrokes like the paintings of Impressionism, emerge the most persistent notes of Mystery Tobacco. In the background of the fragrance stand out the leaves of the tobacco plant. Its golden and smoky nuances made it a key ingredient in the high perfumery of the twenties and thirties. Here they join their strength to the exotic and colorful power of patchouli. That seductive alloy remains on the skin for hours, after having displayed the magic of davana – an aromatic herb very characteristic of India – and ginger in the top notes, and vetiver and tonka bean absolute in the heart. The result is an enveloping and powerful fragrance, multicolored and enigmatic at the same time, which evokes aromas of other times without renouncing an enormously contemporary and genderless sumptuousness. An eau de parfum as powerful and unique as those unique and bold personalities who live forever in the memory of those who knew them.

Dubai: New 850-metre lane at Nad Al Hamar intersection to ease traffic flow

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has started the construction of a new 850-metre lane for vehicles travelling from Ras Al Khor Road towards Nad Al Hamar Intersection, near Nasser Bin Lootah Mosque. They will also be widening the storage lane at Nad Al Hamar Intersection for traffic approaching from Al Rebat Street and turning left towards Nad Al Hamar. This step forms part of RTA's drive to meet the needs and aspirations of residents and ongoing efforts to develop the road network along vital corridors. The enhancements will help ease traffic congestion from Ras Al Khor Road and Al Rebat Street towards Nad Al Hamar Intersection. With the addition of the new lane towards Nad Al Hamar Intersection, capacity will rise by 33%, from 4,800 to 6,400 vehicles per hour. This improvement will reduce travel time from 15 minutes to 11 minutes, enhancing traffic flow towards Nad Al Hamar by up to 27%, particularly during the evening peak hours. Stay up to date with the latest news. Follow KT on WhatsApp Channels. These traffic solutions form part of the 2025 Rapid Traffic Improvements, specifically the Summer 2025 Improvement Plan, which is scheduled for completion by the end of August. The plan aims to enhance traffic flow and road safety and improve the efficiency of the local road network in the area. These improvements will contribute to better daily mobility and residents' quality of life, while supporting RTA's vision as The World Leader in Seamless and Sustainable Mobility. In addition, the expanded storage lane at Nad Al Hamar intersection for traffic approaching from Al Rebat Street and turning left towards Nad Al Hamar will help reduce queuing at the intersection, ensuring smoother traffic flow towards Ras Al Khor Road. The new expansion serves traffic bound for Nad Al Hamar and surrounding areas, particularly Al Rashidiya, Al Qusais, and Dubai International Airport. It will enhance connectivity between residential communities and key destinations, while supporting efficient traffic flow across both the main and local road networks.

Why this Polish town is a hit among Gulf tourists this summer

Move over Switzerland and Austria, there's a new alpine hotspot for holidaymakers from the Gulf escaping the summer heat. Nestled deep in southern Poland 's Tatra Mountains is the small resort town of Zakopane, where thousands of holidaymakers from the region have flocked for alpine views and hiking trails. "We've completely taken over the place," says Fahad Alayyash, 38, a photographer from Saudi Arabia, as he stands on Gubalowka, gazing over the panorama of the Tatras, Poland 's highest mountain range. Below him, visitors drink coffee, shop for souvenirs, take photos of cows and enjoy the view. Zakopane has become a major summer draw for holidaymakers from the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, with up to seven daily flights to the regional capital Krakow, about a two-hour drive north. The boom started with a Saudi travel agency representative, says Agata Wojtowicz, head of the Tatra chamber of commerce. She explains the official came to Zakopane to scout a new destination with a direct connection to the Gulf and "was astonished" by the town. Emiratis become Poland's fastest-growing tourist group Flydubai launched the first Dubai-Krakow connection in 2018 and Emiratis are now coming in droves - helped by their visa-free access to the European Union. Last year, they were Poland's fastest-growing tourist group, according to the tourism ministry, with numbers 66 per cent higher than in 2023. Manal Al Anazy, 45, an educational technology professor at King Saud University, says Zakopane is well-known among Saudis. "When I told my dad and my brother that I'm going to Poland, my brother didn't like it. He said: 'It's all Gulf people there,'" she says. Zakopane uses social media to attract Gulf tourists who have created "a snowball effect" of growing interest, says Wojtowicz. Over the past three years, Arab influencers have been invited on promotional visits, according to Grzegorz Biedron, chairman of its tourism organisation. Both Al Anazy and Abdullah Al Otaibi, a Kuwaiti ship captain, learnt about Zakopane from social media. "I saw on Twitter [X] a thread about Zakopane, and how it treats all people the same, and there is no racism about religions, so I liked it and I came," says Al Otaibi. Halal menus and safety Arab tourists cite the feeling of safety as one of Zakopane's key assets. "It was dark and I was walking ... I'm like, 'You're not in Poland, you're in one of the Gulf countries. Just look. Nothing will happen,'" says Al Anazy. For Zakopane's business owners, the Gulf clientele has been a blessing. "This year, around two-thirds are Arabs," Anna Stoch-El Einen, who owns a kebab restaurant and souvenir shop, says of her customers. "We have very few Polish tourists in the region, perhaps because of the weather," she says. The hospitality industry has adapted fast to the preferences of Middle East visitors. Stoch-El Einen offers menus in Polish and Arabic, and has a "halal" certificate displayed over the counter. "We also make sure that we have a halal menu," says Wiktor Wrobel, chief executive of the region's Nosalowy hotel group. Arab customers constitute up to 30 per cent of all summer guests at his five-star hotel in Zakopane. City mayor Lukasz Filipowicz says "local entrepreneurs are very happy about the presence of tourists from the Middle East". He adds the biggest challenge was the difference in driving cultures, with visitors often breaking parking and entry laws. "Every municipal police patrol is equipped with a handbook in Arabic ... so that tourists from the Middle East can understand and comply with the applicable regulations," Filipowicz says. 'Weather is perfect in Zakopane' The day is rainy, but the drizzle did not deter Gulf visitors escaping the summer heat. Al Anazy initially wanted to vacation in Paris. "I cancelled because the heatwave hit the European countries," she says, adding that "the weather is perfect" in Zakopane. Wrobel says climate change is a reason behind the surge in Zakopane's popularity. "The respite that visitors from Arab countries are looking for cannot be found in Italy or Spain, where temperatures have also risen significantly," he says.
