Sharjah Ruler Chairs SPAA Board of Trustees Meeting
At the beginning of the meeting, His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah welcomed the members and new joiners of the Board of Trustees. His Highness praised the Board's efforts in developing all aspects that contribute to advancing the Academy, its programmes, and its academic degrees. This is to ensure the success of the Academy's experience as a pioneer in its fields of study at the national and regional levels. The Board discussed several topics and future plans for the Academy, ways to achieve them, and the efforts made to support the Academy and make it an educational institution that provides specialised, high-quality education to talented and creative students from within and outside the country. Continuous progress The Board discussed SPAA progress in several areas, including its faculty, practical training for students, and improving and developing the educational environment. It also reviewed the Academy's efforts to expand its relationships with relevant entities through the signing of memoranda of understanding. The Board reviewed the Academy's plans for graduating its 2025 students this June, approving several graduation decisions. The meeting also addressed plans to offer programs specialising in film studies and film production. SPAA College of Music The Board discussed several topics related to the preparations for the opening of the Academy's College of Music, which is scheduled to begin at the beginning of the next academic year. Student admission criteria have been set to the highest standards. The meeting also discussed several plans to expand the field of music studies, offer specialiSed music courses for young people, and participate in international arts festivals. Commemoration On the sidelines of the meeting, His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah received a commemorative plaque from the Lebanese National Theatre Festival, whose third edition's slogan was inspired by one of the famous works of the late Sheikh Khalid bin Sultan Al Qasimi. A film about his life and immortal artistic experience was screened during the festival, and the plaque was signed by all the artists who participated in the third edition. Alongside His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, the meeting was attended by: Sheikha Hoor bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Art Foundation and Vice-Chairman of the Academy's Board of Trustees; Ismail Abdullah Ismail, Secretary-General of the Arab Theatre Authority; Dr. Habib Ghuloum Al Attar, Secretary-General of the Theatre Association; Dr. Peter Barlow, Executive Director of the Sharjah Performing Arts Academy; Ahmed Mohammed Bu Rahima, Director of the Theatre Department at the Department of Culture; Dr. Youssef Abdullah Eidabi, Cultural Advisor at the Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi Foundation; Qasim Istanbouli, Founder of the Lebanese National Theatre; Dr. Nadia Al Hassani, Dean of the College of Fine Arts and Design at the University of Sharjah; and Dr. Abeer Al Jundi.

Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi Centre commemorates Ruler's PhD from Kanazawa
Shaping a better future for humanity This honorary degree recognises His Highness as one of the most prominent Arab figures in supporting education, culture, and arts in Sharjah and the UAE in particular, and the Arab world in general, and as one of the most prominent Arab figures dedicated to building bridges of cooperation and harmony between Arab culture and various human cultures and civilisations for the sake of human happiness, interconnectedness, and shaping a better future for humanity. During the honoring ceremony held in Kanazawa, His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah delivered a speech in Arabic, which was translated into Japanese by his daughter, Her Highness Sheikha Hoor bint Sultan Al Qasimi. His Highness emphasised the importance of education and scientific research for the economic, cultural, and social progress of countries around the world. His Highness said, "Based on this premise and a clear vision for the future of our societies, we in Sharjah began planning a massive project about twenty years ago aimed at enhancing the cognitive and intellectual capabilities of our youth and enabling them to effectively contribute to the growth of our societies through strong competition in a world characterised by knowledge economies." University City In his speech, His Highness touched on the University City project in Sharjah and the efforts made to advance higher education through the establishment of the University of Sharjah (UoS) and the American University of Sharjah (AUS), and to activate international partnerships in the field of scientific research and innovation, emphasising the role of knowledge in building more advanced and stable societies. A better future for all of humanity Japanese officials praised His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah as one of the most prominent Arab figures concerned with human development, human advancement, and the development of the ability to communicate and interact with the peoples of the world for a more just and happier future for all of humanity. It is worth noting that His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah is one of the prominent figures selected to receive this honour from Kanazawa University, which was established in 1949 and is considered one of the most important and prestigious universities in Japan and East Asia. This honour is a new addition to His Highness's collection of honorary degrees from leading international universities, reflecting international recognition of his pioneering role in the Arab cultural and intellectual renaissance.

The council toured an exhibition at the Old Clinic, where a striking sculpture depicting the region's geological history stood as a reminder of the ancient sea that once covered the area millions of years ago. One of the key stops for the delegation was an exhibit inspired by Al Dhaid's agricultural traditions, particularly its historic date palm groves. Through innovative artistic techniques, the works explored the relationship between agriculture, sustainability, and cultural heritage, blending tradition with modern interpretations to present a unique visual perspective on the region's farming legacy. He emphasised that the Biennial has the power to transcend geographical boundaries, showcasing diverse artistic perspectives that deserve global recognition. He praised the efforts of Sheikha Hoor bint Sultan Al Qasimi in organising the Biennial and her dedication to cementing Sharjah's status as a leading centre for arts and culture. Dr Al Nuaimi also highlighted that the visit was not merely an official engagement but a cultural and intellectual experience, allowing the council to witness firsthand the immense dedication that has shaped the Biennial over the past 32 years. Design for landmark SCQ, a new hub of culture, unveiled
Strategically positioned in Sharjah's epicentre for educational prominence and innovation, adjacent to landmark developments such as the House of Wisdom, the American University of Sharjah, and the Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park, the Sharjah Creative Quarter will foster a vibrant community for innovators and creative minds. Earlier, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, issued an Emiri Decree establishing the Sharjah Creative Quarter project and appointed Sheikha Hoor bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Art Foundation, as its head. The Sharjah Creative Quarter will comprise diverse and integrated buildings, creating a vibrant hub for creativity and innovation. This dynamic space will foster a community of talented individuals, offering them the freedom to transform their ideas into tangible reality. Key components of the Sharjah Creative Quarter will include: Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi Collection , a museum showcasing a captivating selection of art and historical artefacts from the personal collection of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Supreme Council of Family Affairs (SCFA) Qasimi Archives , honouring the legacy of Sheikh Khalid Al Qasimi, founder and designer of the London-based QASIMI fashion label, and cultivating next-generation fashion designers to use clothing as a medium for cultural dialogue and exchange. Sharjah Fashion Lab , offers world-class expertise empowering local designers by providing access to specialised services, advanced machinery, and technological innovation to develop fashion prototypes, create digital patterns, and produce prototypes that meet global manufacturing standards. Irthi Museum , an initiative of the Irthi Contemporary Crafts Council dedicated to promoting and contemporising Emirati and regional crafts by empowering traditional craftswomen. Sharjah Design Centre , a newly established initiative pioneering facilities for prototyping and design fabrication through woodwork, ceramics, metalwork, textile, jewellery designing, and additional facilities for design mastery through conversation and experimentation, including fine jewellery and other artistic elements, fostering design mastery through collaboration, experimentation, and a vibrant creative exchange. The Sharjah Creative Quarter will also include a campus of L'ÉCOLE, School of Jewelry Arts supported by Van Cleef & Arpels , the first in Sharjah and the second in the Middle East. Through a program of courses and talks, L'ÉCOLE is aiming to introduce the public to all aspects of jewellery culture around its three pillars: art history, savoir-faire and the world of gemstones. A library will also be open to visitors and researchers, contributing to the dissemination of jewellery arts and knowledge on an international scale. Designed to be a vibrant hub, the Sharjah Creative Quarter will provide a stimulating environment that fosters creativity and innovation. Its integrated design, combining green spaces, interconnected buildings, and essential facilities such as cafés, restaurants, and co-working spaces, will create an energetic atmosphere that provides visitors with a platform for cultural and artistic exchange and collaboration. Taller de Arquitectura, the architectural firm headed by Mauricio Rocha and collaborating with Daniel Rosselló for the project, has a distinguished track record in designing museums, public infrastructure and cultural centres, including the Anahuacalli Museum and the School of Visual Arts in Mexico. These projects have solidified the firm's reputation as a leading expert in the field of museums and cultural infrastructure. Sheikha Hoor Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Creative Quarter and President of the Sharjah Art Foundation, expressed her optimism for the project , saying: 'We are excited to unveil the Sharjah Creative Quarter, a project that we believe will be a fitting addition to our emirate's rich cultural landscape. We envision it as a thriving hub of creativity, innovation, and artistic expression, inspired by the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi.' She also acknowledged the invaluable support and guidance of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Supreme Council of Family Affairs, whose vision has been instrumental in shaping this unique project. Sheikha Hoor added: 'We selected Taller de Arquitectura by Mauricio Rocha, in collaboration with Daniel Rosselló, as the architects for the Sharjah Creative Quarter. Their expertise in museum and public infrastructure design, along with their design philosophy, is aligned with our vision to create an epicentre of creativity, conversation and collaboration.' Taller's design for the Sharjah Creative Quarter embodies the principles of sustainability and integration, anchored in enriching visitor experiences. The architect's selection of materials includes rammed earth, a construction material with very low environmental impact. Integrative design techniques will enhance and synchronise the natural and built environments. This approach ensures a rich and sustainable experience for all, reflecting the project's commitment to environmental responsibility. Mauricio Rocha, Head Architect and Founder at Taller de Arquitectura , noted: 'We envision the Sharjah Creative Quarter as a citadel immersed in a landscape with complex topography and nature. Buildings intersect with each other to create a spatial experience that is fundamental to the project. Patios and plazas connect interiors with exteriors and the treatment of light brings focus on contemplation and creativity as well as the integral connection between the different components and their inhabitants, spaces that encourage interaction between design, art and craftsmanship and are open to creative freedom. A proposal that retains the intangible experience, where atmosphere, time and memory can awaken collective creativity.' Appointed as the strategic lead and project manager for the Sharjah Creative Quarter, BEEAH, a leader in pioneering sustainable solutions in the Middle East, will leverage its extensive expertise in cutting-edge architectural and environmental projects. This includes their work on the BEEAH Headquarters, an iconic structure conceived by Zaha Hadid Architects, which stands as a testament to their commitment to innovation and sustainability in architecture.
