This 'Fountain of Youth' stunt left Natalie Portman, John Krasinski 'genuinely' terrified
This 'Fountain of Youth' stunt left Natalie Portman, John Krasinski 'genuinely' terrified Show Caption Hide Caption John Krasinski, Natalie Portman talk 'Fountain of Youth' car chase John Krasinski, Natalie Portman reveal they were genuinely frightened while shooting car chase in 'Fountain of Youth' To find immortality, Natalie Portman and John Krasinski first had to survive a white-knuckle car chase. In director Guy Ritchie's 'Fountain of Youth' (streaming now on Apple TV+), a globetrotting adventure in the 'Indiana Jones' and 'National Treasure' mold, the two A-listers play estranged siblings seeking the titular mythical spring. Early in the process, their characters find themselves being pursued through London at high speeds by cop cars, with Krasinski behind the wheel of a slick Shelby Cobra. Well, not technically. He and Portman acted in a pod car built for close-ups while stunt drivers did all the heavy lifting with the actual muscle car seen in wide shots. 'The stunt guys were like, 'If you asked us to drive this (yourself), you would die. ... But the one you and Natalie are in, pffft, we've built it to be like a Volvo,' " Krasinski says. "And I was like, 'Great. That sounds like safety.' "But I will say all those reactions are genuine. No one told us how fast we were going to go.' Join our Watch Party! Sign up to receive USA TODAY's movie and TV recommendations right in your inbox Adds Portman: 'I definitely was wishing I could wear a helmet. I was genuinely just screaming my head off. It was crazy.' Both actors have played in franchise sandboxes before: Portman starred as Padmé Amidala in the 'Star Wars' prequels and appeared as Thor's love interest Jane Foster in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where 'A Quiet Place' mastermind Krasinski stopped by as Reed Richards of the Fantastic Four. But 'Fountain of Youth' offered the chance to be on the ground floor of a potential new series intended for families. 'It's really fun to come in and get to imagine these characters without inheriting a legacy of something,' Portman says. After his first costume fitting, Krasinski remembers calling his wife Emily Blunt while strolling through the production office. 'I went, 'This is huge!' ' he says. 'I was scared, and then as soon as we started, it almost felt like the gates were open for just real collaboration.' But Luke (Krasinski) and Charlotte Purdue (Portman), who enjoyed a life of adventure before going their separate ways after their father's death, are very clearly not on the same page in the early goings-on of 'Fountain of Youth.' She's a gallery curator in London when her art-thief older brother shows up and steals a painting. It's for a good cause, though. Luke has been hired by a tech billionaire (Domhnall Gleeson) to locate the Fountain of Youth, a legendary locale the siblings' dad always wanted to find, and hidden messages on the back of six masterpieces hold the key to getting there. Working with Ritchie 'definitely provided a lot of that dynamic of this brother who's a little wilder (and) the sister who's a little bit more sensible and responsible,' Portman says. 'And of course, the one who had an impact on both of them, this father that was extremely wild and adventurous. One has kind of followed in his path and the other has driven her personality in antithesis to her father." Luke brings out a less buttoned-up side of Charlotte, who's gone through a messy divorce and brings her 12-year-old son (Benjamin Chivers) on their adventure. And Charlotte constantly reminds Luke not to steal artifacts he doesn't need. One of Krasinski's favorite parts of the movie was 'this whole idea of touching it, but not taking,' he says. 'Fountain of Youth' digs into real history, and Portman learned about things she 'had never heard of before,' like the Wicked Bible, Rembrandt's copies of his own works, and masterpieces that sank with the torpedoed Lusitania in 1915. 'I was like, 'Wait, where's the Lusitania?!' ' she says, noting that screenwriter James Vanderbilt threw in a detail from his own family history. (The Purdues have to break into a waterproof safe that belonged to Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt, the writer's real-life great-grandfather, who died aboard the ship.) What mythic locale or priceless artifact will the Purdues pursue next? 'Let's see if people want a sequel first,' Portman cracks. But Krasinski thinks there's a certain nostalgia factor that will bring youngsters to 'Fountain of Youth.' 'I just recently watched 'Back to the Future' for the first time with my oldest daughter, and you could just sense something in the room. There was a promise that was being made with that movie to her that she hadn't had in a long time, if ever – maybe the 'Harry Potter' movies or something,' Krasinski says. 'There was a superpower to those movies that we grew up with, and I hope we get to keep bringing them back. 'It's so hard to find something that we can all watch as a family where it's not too young for us, it's not too adult for them, and that everybody enjoys it. And this hopefully is one of them.'

Shelby Cobra 427 to Celebrate 60 Years of Performance at Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance
Lineage from First Production Cobra to Last 427 Will Be Exhibited PEBBLE BEACH, Calif., May 14, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- One of the most intimidating cars of its era, the Shelby Cobra 427, marks its 60th anniversary this year. Named for the 427-cubic-inch Ford engine that powered it to dominate SCCA racing and set a performance benchmark that stood for years, the "big block Cobra" earned iconic status from the day it was introduced. To celebrate this anniversary, a Shelby Cobra class will take to the show field at this year's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance on August 17. "Carroll had a strong personal connection to Pebble Beach, racing and winning here in the 1950s and later sharing his cars at the Concours, so we are honored to feature his Cobras this year," said Concours Chairman Sandra Button. "The design, performance, and historic wins of these iconic race cars highlight the legendary pairing of Carroll and Shelby American with AC Cars and Ford Motor Company." Carroll Shelby, an automotive legend, is popularly known for his groundbreaking work with high-performance sports cars, such as the Le Mans-winning Ford GT40, but he first made his mark as a race driver, winning numerous races, including the last Pebble Beach Road Race, triumphing at Le Mans and competing in Formula 1. The Shelby Cobra came into being in 1962, pairing an AC Ace chassis with a Ford 260-cubic-inch V8 that was replaced by the larger 289 engine. The ultimate iteration, the Shelby Cobra 427 — with a new chassis, coil suspension, and powerful 427-cubic-inch engine — was introduced in 1965. "Ford's 'Total Performance' era of the 1960s was epic, equaled only today with the company's global motorsport program," stated Edsel B. Ford II. "Carroll Shelby was vital to our dominance in the sixties and his 427 Cobra put an exclamation point on that success! I am delighted that these iconic cars will be celebrated on this anniversary year." Four versions of the 427 Cobra were produced and will be showcased — "Comp" (competition), S/C (semi-competition), Street and Narrow Hip — in addition to the first and last production Cobras. "The Shelby Cobra remains an automotive icon even 60 years after its introduction," said Aaron Shelby, grandson of Carroll Shelby and board member of Carroll Shelby International. "Few cars have achieved the fame and staying power of the Shelby Cobra. Not only does it represent performance, this sportscar represents American ingenuity! Simple but effective, it was created with grit and determination." The Pebble Beach Concours will also marque the 75th anniversary of Formula 1, the centennials of Chrysler, Invicta, Moretti and the Rolls-Royce Phantom and will celebrate the creations of Virgil Exner. This New Italian Sports Car Takes You Back in Time with a Free-Breathing V-8 and a Manual
Automobili Mignatta, a new Italian automaker, has debuted the Rina—a sports car with no windshield and a sleek carbon-fiber body. Under the hood lies a naturally aspirated V-8 that feeds the rear wheels via a six-speed manual. The cockpit is devoid of screens, instead boasting aluminum and carbon-fiber trim, analog gauges, and brown leather. Between Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, Pagani, and countless others, Italy has a rich history of producing jaw-dropping sports cars. Now there's another name to add to the list: Automobili Mignatta, a new startup that is based out of Valfenera d'Asti in Piedmont, around 25 miles outside of Turin. The company's first car, the Rina, was revealed this week and pairs classically beautiful bodywork with the equally classic combination of a naturally aspirated V-8 engine and a manual transmission. The Rina's monocoque is made from carbon fiber, as is the handcrafted barchetta-style body, which draws inspiration from Italian sports cars of the 1960s. The curvature of the fenders, oval-shaped headlights, and lack of a windshield call to mind classics like the Shelby Cobra or Maserati 450S. The Rina has an athletic stance and perfect proportions, and small visors sprout up in front of each occupant to divert the air flowing over the long hood. Beneath the bodywork lies a 5.0-liter V-8 that remains free from both turbochargers and superchargers. The naturally aspirated unit is hooked up to a six-speed manual transmission that delivers power to the rear wheels only. There's no official word on where the company has sourced the engine or transmission, while official power and torque outputs will be revealed later. Automobili Mignatta says the engine has been tuned by Italtecnica Engineering, which worked with Podium Advanced Technologies on a 5.0-liter V-8 for the Nardone 928, a slick restomod. The engine in that modernized Porsche makes 450 hp and 383 pound-feet of torque. Italtecnica Engineering has also designed and developed engines for several other restomods, including the Kimera EVO37 and Totem GT Super. The Rina rides on 19-inch front wheels and 20-inch rear wheels, all shod in Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS tires. A Brembo brake system is fitted with six-piston front calipers and four-pot units in back. The cabin—if you can call it that on a car with no roof—is straightforward, with an array of buttons and analog gauges. The speedometer is mounted on the center console, while the tachometer sits behind the steering wheel. Automobili Mignatta is proud that the Rina has zero screens. The interior also pairs aluminum trim with rich brown leather and carbon fiber. Only 30 units will be built each year, the company says, and prices will start at around $290,000. The Rina likely won't be road-legal in the United States, but that won't stop us from dreaming about ripping up and down the Italian coast, wind in our hair as the V-8 engine roars and the shifter clicks into gear. C2 Corvette Grand Sport Plays With LS Power
Read the full story on Backfire News Few names in Chevy heritage are as respected as the C2 Corvette Grand Sport. Perhaps that's why some purists have a strong aversion to continuation models like this, especially when they come with a modern LS engine. But we like this sports car and think it would be a fun toy to the Grand Sport was a strictly a racecar, not a street-legal production model. Chevy created it as a smaller, lighter version of the C2 Corvette specifically to take on the Shelby Cobra, which is why some call it the Mongoose (a snake killer). Superformance has permission from GM to make these continuation cars, which can be driven on public roads. Some people think continuation cars are inferior garbage or something that shouldn't exist. Others find them to be great ways of having fun. It can be a divisive topic. Under the vented hood of this Grand Sport is a 408ci LS2 V8 built by V's Performance. As you can see, it has velocity stacks via Borla. With upgraded internals, it's tuned to make just under 500-whp. With a curb weight under 3,000 lbs. this Grand Sport will move. A T56 Magnum XL 6-speed manual transmission backs that engine, adding to the fun a driver gets to have in this ride. When it comes to the chassis, there are Bilstein coilovers up front, and a single leaf transverse setup made of a carbon composite. Instead of the original single-piston disc brakes, the Wilwoods come with six-piston calipers in front and four-piston in the rear. We're fans of well-done continuation cars like this one from Superformance. It pays tribute to the original Grand Sports yet pushes modern performance and reliability, which in our minds is the best of both worlds. Images via Autotopia LA/YouTube
