That seems like an obsolete memory and the world is fading fast. A new cohort, born in an era of search engines, social feeds, and on-demand answers, is shattering those boundaries and building its own pathways to comprehension. Generation Z as the definition and news headlines often say is a generation that is altering the status quo of the society. They have something different to serve, sometimes in terms of workplace culture, and in other forms of learning. The latest Google–Kantar study delivers a telling statistic: 84% of Gen Z have used generative AI to make sense of the news they consume. This is not mere curiosity about the newest tech toy. It is an intentional, almost instinctive, act of reframing information, taking raw reports and filtering them through an intelligent system to extract meaning, simplify complexity, or bridge linguistic gaps. Creators, platforms, and the question of trust For news access, Gen Z is clear in its preferences: 91% favour social media, with video platforms close behind at 88%. Within that space, 48% follow creators, whether niche experts or civic commentators, while 43% choose established news organisations as the data survey reports. Yet when the issue is trust, legacy outlets still hold the edge, scoring 47% compared to 38–39% for creator-led content. The duality emphasises the Gen Z paradox: A hunger for personalised, engaging narratives, tempered by a recognition that credibility cannot be sacrificed. The language of connection While English remains the preferred reading language for 42% of respondents, the switch is dramatic when the format changes. In audio and video, local languages dominate, attracting 57% for their ease of understanding, emotional resonance, and shareability. This dual-language behaviour positions Gen Z as both global consumers and local custodians, equally comfortable in a streaming lecture from the US and a regional-language news recap on their phone. What this says about today's learners Taken together, these findings reveal a generation reshaping the architecture of learning. They are not passive recipients of information but active interpreters, curators, and verifiers. In classrooms, this approach can accelerate critical thinking and adaptability; in society, it can foster a more discerning public. But it also raises questions. When interpretation is outsourced to AI, does human judgment strengthen, or atrophy? Will the speed of machine-generated clarity crowd out the slow, sometimes messy process of forming independent perspectives? While, their dependence on AI is at surge, the uncertainty dwells whether it is crippling the present generation and handing over the powers to the artificial intelligence, or it is strengthening them to see beyond what is shown. SHILOH — Upcoming blood drives want to boost donations as summer activities and back-to-school preparations continue. According to a community announcement, Vitalant encourages eligible donors to give blood in August to help maintain a steady supply for patients in need. Donors who participate between Aug. 1 and Aug. 28 and are enrolled in Vitalant Donor Rewards will receive a $10 gift card and enter a drawing for one of three $10,000 gift cards in the Summer Gas Giveaway. Vitalant states that all blood types are needed, with a particular emphasis on type O and platelet donors. Type O blood can assist most patients in emergencies, while platelets are critical for cancer patients and those experiencing severe bleeding, according to the announcement. Newcastle's very own Shiloh Angel Sumair (15) is breaking barriers and defying the odds after winning Teen Miss India Worldwide South Africa. Shiloh recalled being announced as the winner she felt like time had stood still in her mind for a second…. 'All I could remember was the countless hours of hard work and it all finally paid off…. I couldn't have been prouder to stand on that stage representing my hometown,' she said, smiling. Shiloh's journey started after she made the Top 5 in the Miss Teen India NKZN then was selected for the national round, which she won. She was then selected to represent South Africa at the international finals, which will be hosted in Mumbai later this year. However, due to unfortunate circumstances, Shiloh will not be attending the international event this year. 'I won't pretend it's not disappointing, but I firmly believe that all of this, the pageant and the journey, is more about the message than the title, and the message is simple: just be unapologetically yourself,' she said. Tears as Depressed Dog Finally Reunites With Her Sick Puppy in Hospital

Jenna, the 4-year-old Shiloh shepherd, welcomed a litter of six puppies in late June when they arrived a week early. Sadly, only one pup, named Eros, survived. It was a devastating time for Jenna, for Mojo the dad, and of course for their owner, Heather. The problems continued when Eros was around a week old and Heather noticed that she was aspirating, meaning inhaled material like food, vomit, or regurgitation, was going into her lungs. While Heather breeds the dogs for show and service purposes, she told Newsweek that they "are family" and she would do whatever it took to help Eros. She tried to prevent pneumonia, but the antibiotics weren't successful and Eros had to be hospitalized at barely a few weeks old. "Jenna was anxious at first, searching relentlessly day and night, only consoled by her puppy's scent on stuffed animals. As time went on, she began to give up hope and became increasingly depressed." Eros was in hospital for six days, but Jenna was finally allowed to visit after four days. That morning, Heather kept telling Jenna that they were going to "see the baby," and the dog seemed to perk up. Heather firmly believes that Jenna understood what she was telling her. When they finally arrived at the veterinary hospital and Eros was carried into the room, Jenna could hardly believe her eyes. "It took almost a full second before she rushed forward and began covering the puppy in kisses. I bawled. It was a dream come true seeing them together again," Heather said. Heather shared the adorable footage of Jenna reuniting with Eros on her TikTok account (@kittytheshiloh) and it melted hearts. In just a matter of days, the clip has generated over 740,700 views and more than 60,600 likes at the time of writing. Eros had to stay in hospital for a few extra days, and it was only after seeing her try to nurse from Jenna that attention turned towards swallowing disorders. Shortly after, Eros was diagnosed with cricopharyngeal achasia, a condition whereby the cricopharyngeus muscle (which controls food passing from the pharynx to the esophagus) fails to relax when swallowing. It can cause blockages or restrict food when swallowing. Some vets recommended euthanasia because they couldn't help Eros, but a pharyngeal dysphasia specialist at a university hospital "saved the day" and gave them optimism. "Once we knew there was hope, there was no stopping us from saving her," Heather told Newsweek. Once she was strong enough, Eros had an esophageal feeding tube fitted. She is now fed from that four times a day, around the clock. Heather also changes her dressing twice a day, as well as administering antibiotics and pain medication. Eros must be supervised constantly and can't have anything through her mouth, but she is doing great, nonetheless. Since sharing Eros's story online, Heather has been blown away by the overwhelmingly supportive response. So many people are rooting for Eros and following her journey as she shows how much fight she has within her. "Shilohs are a uniquely gentle breed, and famously easy to train, but training her without food will be a struggle," Heather said. "I'm her service human now. She needs someone who will wake up to a change of breathing patterns and watch every bite of food and sip of water she ever takes (once she can have those). "Shilohs are heavily health tested, but this condition cannot be predicted since it isn't genetic. Thankfully, it's exceedingly rare, especially in puppies." Since going viral, the video of Jenna reuniting with her only surviving pup has gained over 800 comments on TikTok so far. Many social media users praised her maternal instincts and hailed the unshakeable bond between them. One comment reads: "Oh please keep them together forever. I love them. Thank you for taking good care!" Another TikTok user wrote: "this made me cry, I hope they have a lifetime together."
