Jockey Kieran Shoemark and trainer Charlie Fellowes are two talented men who deserve a change of fortune. Shoemark lost his job as first jockey to John and Thady Gosden after being blamed for Field of Gold's narrow defeat in the Betfred 2000 Guineas at Newmarket four weeks ago. Shoemark then rode Fellowes' filly Shes Perfect to victory in the French 1000 Guineas at Longchamp, only for the three-year-old filly to be demoted from first to second for interference. To add insult to injury, the decision was appealed and despite evidence from both men that they had been hard done by, they failed to get the result overturned. On Sunday, Fellowes and Shoemark will return to France, this time to Chantilly, for the Qatar Prix du Jockey Club, or French Derby (3.05 p.m.), when they hop Luther will land the French Classic over a distance of 1 mile 2 furlongs. The horse was fourth in the French 2000 Guineas earlier this month.

The jockey, who then saw his French 1000 Guineas 'win' on Shes Perfect overturned by stewards, was subsequently dropped as the Gosdens' No1 rider. And Ryan Moore was picked over him for the ride on Roger Teal's Dancing Gemini in last weekend's Locking at Newbury. Now Juddmonte have confirmed Shoemark will not get the chance at redemption this weekend. Colin Keane is the man they have turned to for 8-11 Field Of Gold, while Oisin Murphy will ride the same owner's hugely exciting Cosmic Year. He was scratched from the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket but won over the track in the 7f Listed King Charles II stakes instead. The Harry Charlton-trained colt is a general 4-1 for the Group 1. A rider for Juddmonte's third in the race, the Andrew Balding-trained Windlord, has yet to be confirmed. Keane, who won the 2020 Irish 2000 Guineas for Juddmonte with the Ger Lyons-trained Siskin, said: "I'm delighted to be asked to ride him, he looks a very good ride going into the race, I'm very much looking forward to it. 'The Juddmonte colours are those that growing up watching racing, you know who they are. "I've been very fortunate to win two Classics wearing them and a couple more Group Ones and I'm just delighted to be asked to ride the colt at the weekend. 'Winning the Irish Guineas a few years ago for Ger was one of my best days. "It's such a huge race and Juddmonte hadn't long been in the yard, he was their first Group One together. 'To get a horse of Siskin's calibre very early on was very special and for him to then go and win a Classic was very special, it was a brilliant day."
