Redemption, karma… There's only one jockey who makes sense on Field Of Gold with Colin Keane set to be banned

It looks like No1 Colin Keane could miss the big Goodwood ride
MATT CHAPMAN Redemption, karma… There's only one jockey who makes sense on Field Of Gold with Colin Keane set to be banned
REDEMPTION and karma are wonderful things not always experienced by all.
John & Thady Gosden are now likely to have the chance of putting their anger to one side and giving Kieran Shoemark the chance of redemption.

And in doing so the handlers themselves can gain karma and peace!
None of you will be surprised I'm talking Field Of Gold, of course, who is set to run in the Qatar Sussex Stakes at Goodwood on July 30.
Shoemark lost the ride when he was defeated by a narrow margin in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket.
That came on the back of a brilliant display by both jockey and horse in the Craven Stakes, when John Gosden was keen to praise Shoemark for his efforts.
Subsequently, Colin Keane rode Field Of Gold to facile successes in the Irish 2000 Guineas and St James's Palace Stakes.
But Keane is this week likely to be given a whip ban which will rule him out of the Sussex.
I'd be close to certain that owners Juddmonte would have no issue with Shoemark on top.
Why would they? The rider has a tremendous record for the outfit over the last 12 months, and of course was brilliant at Goodwood in the Nassau when Lady Bowthorpe banged in her Group 1 in 2021.
That day owner Emma Banks showed loyalty and decency. And she was rewarded in spades.
Of course I'm not totally crazy, and the chances are the Gosdens will refuse to let Shoemark do what is so obvious.
Indeed, it's more than likely Oisin Murphy will be called up to ride Field Of Gold should Keane be absent.
Rumours abounded that Murphy had, actually, been pencilled in to ride Field Of Gold in the Irish 2000 Guineas before Keane was put up as the Juddmonte main man.
But I can't back that up with any substance. It might have just been a rumour.
Whatever the case, on a humane level Shoemark and Field Of Gold back together in the Sussex just seems the right way to go for all concerned.
I won't hold my breath, but come on, people, you know it makes sense.
Meanwhile… Much has already been said and written about the Coral-Eclipse since Saturday, but it will long remain one of the most insane races I have ever seen.
I spoke to more than one of the connections of Delacroix who were convinced he would be making all.
I certainly didn't hear anyone suggest Delacroix would be ridden for a turn of foot!
And of course he wasn't, for all that is what he eventually needed.
Delacroix was last turning for home. OMG!
And who has ever thought Sosie was a front-runner?
He was in the Eclipse, which was odd in the extreme. The one thing you know about French raiders is they mostly have a closing kick.
Just a bizarre race, and if you have studied his body language to any degree at numerous moments Ryan Moore looked fairly miffed with how things were going.
I wonder at what point Moore really thought – 'I might just go and win this'.
At a guess, only once Delacroix was pulled out wide and after a few strides started to get going.
But at that stage Ombudsman was clear albeit he had probably been in front for long enough.
As a form guide for the future, it's hard to say the Eclipse will be a reliable one.
But what you can say is that Delacroix must be some machine.
Looking ahead I wonder if one day he will end up in the Breeders' Cup Mile or Turf? Which one would you pick for him?
Time will tell…

Do Bronxs set for Rose Bowl bid

Owned by Amo Racing, the 80,000 guineas purchase is the first foal out of Lola Showgirl, a Royal Ascot and Group Three winner for Loughnane. Do Bronxs made his debut up at Ayr but went off a weak 10-1 shot before staying on strongly inside the final furlong to win well. He is up against Charlie Appleby's Norfolk Stakes runner-up Wise Approach but Loughnane is never one to shy away from a good one. 'He's a nice horse, he impressed on his debut and he seems to have come on leaps,' said Loughnane. 'I think a lot of him. 'Obviously the Godolphin horse who was second in the Norfolk sets the standard and could prove hard to beat but you can't run away from one horse. 'If he's going to be as good as I think he is he'll have to be competitive in this company.' Wise Approach won on his debut and was then fourth at York in a race won by the reopposing First Legion, but the Godolphin runner turned that form around at Ascot when beating all bar Charles Darwin. Appleby told the Godolphin website: 'Wise Approach came out of Ascot well and we feel that stepping back up to six furlongs will suit. 'If he runs to anything near the level of his Norfolk Stakes form, it should make him very competitive in this grade.' Owner Sheikh Mohammed Obaid has two runners, George Boughey's Windsor winner Amorim and the Kevin Ryan-trained Rock On Thunder, who was ninth of 20 in the Coventry. Tom Dascombe's Kolkata Knight is the only other runner with the planned Irish raider Nuevo Slovo now not taking part.

Scots firm creates last minute five-a-side pitch for rap superstar and football pals

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A GLASGOW company made a bespoke five-a-side pitch for Drake and his crew. Superstrong Fitness answered the call to supply the artificial surface for the rap superstar to play football on. The tennis courts at Oakley Court, a plush Victorian mansion hotel in Windsor, were transformed into a temporary miniature football pitch. A private £2million post-tour football party was planned at the hotel for Drake, his friends, crew, and VIP guests. But it was nearly ruined when it was realised there was not enough turf. The contractor operating the afterparty venue got in touch with Superstrong Fitness. It requested 300 square metres of heavy-duty gym turf. Michael Geraghty, founder of Superstrong Fitness, said: "I got a panicked text while I was sitting at Stockholm Airport. "The contractor was 120 square metres short. They needed more turf by lunchtime the next day. "I was about to board a flight back to Scotland. We didn't flinch. "I arranged an overnight courier before takeoff, landed in Edinburgh, and drove straight to our warehouse to meet the delivery van." 'I cried my eyes out for a fortnight' - emotional Sinead O'Connor's dad tells of losing his singer daughter and life without the star The surface was created on time and completed with spray-painted with pitch markings. SuperStrong Fitness, based in Hillington, Glasgow, was established in 2020 during the Covid lockdown. It has supplied turf and sled tracks to thousands of home gyms, CrossFit boxes, and commercial fitness spaces - including both the men's and women's training facilities at Manchester United. Michael added: "We might never see the footage. "But knowing our turf gave one of the biggest artists on the planet a chance to relax with mates after a mega show - that's more than enough for us."
