Panaji: A total of 700 constables of the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRBn), Goa Police, on Tuesday passed out at the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy in Assam. Chief minister Pramod Sawant, who attended the passing-out parade, urged the constables to work to keep Goa safe and secure. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Last week, TOI reported that there is a 7% shortage of personnel in the IRBn. The total sanctioned strength of the IRBn is 3,021, and there is a shortage of 230 personnel at various levels. Sawant said that the police role is important to keep Goa safe, secure, and beautiful, and the constables will be committed to doing that. Sawant stated that 700 IRBn constables, 569 males and 131 females, will join Goa police. He mentioned that this is not the end of training but a proud moment for them. 'Heartiest congratulations to the 700 recruits of the Indian Reserve Battalion, Goa police, on successfully completing their rigorous training. My gratitude to the chief minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, for graciously extending Assam's state-of-the-art training facilities,' Sawant said. He said, 'This remarkable collaboration reflects the true spirit of national unity and reinforces the vision of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.' Sawant noted that in the 10-month training, constables learned about crime detection, documentation collection, crowd management or crowd control, cybercrime, and human rights. He emphasised that police are very close to the public and should reach out to them in case of a disaster. He said that the public always expects police to work without bias and provide justice. 'People expect you to follow the law; your behaviour creates the image of police in the public mind, and that is the reason you have to earn the trust of the public by being honest and sensitive,' Sawant said. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The chief minister stated that the constables have been trained to serve the people of Goa. 'When you wear the uniform, it is not just a belt and clothes but a responsibility, and now you have become the sons of the country and the state,' Sawant said. TOI has reported that Goa police are also facing a 12% shortage of personnel in the ranks of additional director general of police, superintendent, deputy superintendent, inspector, sub-inspector, and constable, among others.

PM Modi inaugurates new multi-storey housing complex for MPs in Delhi

New Delhi, Aug 11 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated environmentally disabled-friendly 184 newly constructed Type-VII multi-storey flats for Members of Parliament at Baba Kharak Singh Marg, here. The residential complex, having four towers equipped with green and modern amenities features, aims to improve accommodation facilities for MPs and promote a more efficient and sustainable living environment, said a statement from the Prime Minister's Office. Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister pointed out that the four towers in the complex named after major Indian rivers -- the Krishna, Godavari, Kosi, and the Hooghly -- symbolizing unity and cultural heritage which give life to millions, will now inspire a new stream of joy in the lives of public representatives. 'The availability of these new flats will ease the lives of MPs in Delhi,' he said, adding the new housing would end the long-standing issue of inadequate government accommodation for lawmakers. He also commended the engineers and shramjeevis (workers) who contributed to the construction, appreciating their dedication and timely delivery of the project. The Prime Minister shared his experience of visiting a sample flat and compared it with older accommodations, many of which, he said, had deteriorated over time. He noted that the new complex would offer MPs a comfortable living space and free them from housing-related concerns, allowing them to focus more on their duties towards the public. Modi further acknowledged the difficulties faced by first-time MPs in finding housing in Delhi. He said that more than 180 MPs will be housed in these towers and said this development will also help reduce government spending. He pointed out that from 2004 to 2014, no new flats were built for Lok Sabha MPs. 'Since 2014, around 350 MP flats have been constructed, including this new set, which will help save public funds,' he said. Drawing attention to broader development goals, the Prime Minister said, 'India of the 21st century is equally committed to growth and responsibility,' and mentioned that while new government infrastructure is being built, schemes like PM Awas Yojana are also helping four crore families achieve homeownership. He added that as India builds new Parliament buildings and MP flats, it is also setting up hundreds of medical colleges across the country. The Prime Minister highlighted the project's sustainability features, including solar infrastructure and green building design. He said the complex aligns with India's commitment to environmental protection and future-ready infrastructure, as per the statement here. Calling upon MPs to promote unity, Modi said the complex should reflect the spirit of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat. He encouraged MPs to celebrate each other's regional festivals, invite constituents, and learn regional languages from one another. He also urged MPs to maintain the premises with high standards of cleanliness and sustainability. He suggested that competitions could be held among residential complexes to promote cleanliness under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The event was attended by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Ministers, and several MPs. The Prime Minister also planted a Sindoor tree sapling and interacted with the workers who contributed to the project. According to officials, the building also features a community centre within the premises, which will serve as a hub for social and official engagements of MPs and incorporates green technology as per the GRIHA 3-star rating requirement, and complies with the National Building Code (NBC) 2016. The environmentally sustainable features include renewable energy systems, energy-efficient fittings, and an effective waste management system. The design aims to conserve resources while reducing operational costs. Officials said the multi-storey building is built using monolithic concrete with aluminum shuttering and is earthquake-resistant in accordance with modern structural norms. A robust security system has also been implemented for the safety of residents, said the officials. UNI AJ MI PRS

He also emphasized the importance of fact-based discussions, constructive criticism over blind opposition, and solutions-driven democracy. He also praised the national education policy for empowering youth to pursue their talents and interests, fostering innovation and entrepreneurship. Saini criticized the then Congress govt for imposing the emergency, stating there was no instability or natural disaster to justify it. "Fifty years ago, during the Emergency, not only were political rights violated, but there was also a brutal attack on women's freedom, dignity, and rights. It was a time when both democracy and women's dignity were strangled. Women were imprisoned, their voices were suppressed, and they were confined to their homes," said the CM. He added that it reminds him of a time when efforts were made to suppress the voice of the entire nation. "It was an era when, disregarding the constitution, the country was turned into a prison to save the power of one family," he said. He also expressed confidence that India's democratic spirit can never be crushed again. "Today, with so many aware mothers and sisters present, I am confident that no one can crush the democratic consciousness of this country again," he said, adding that emergency was imposed on the night of June 25, 1975, by misusing the constitution, which curtailed the rights of every individual in the country.
