The total sanctioned strength of the IRBn is 3,021, and there is a shortage of 230 personnel at various levels. Sawant said that the police role is important to keep Goa safe, secure, and beautiful, and the constables will be committed to doing that.
Sawant stated that 700 IRBn constables, 569 males and 131 females, will join Goa police. He mentioned that this is not the end of training but a proud moment for them.
'Heartiest congratulations to the 700 recruits of the Indian Reserve Battalion, Goa police, on successfully completing their rigorous training. My gratitude to the chief minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, for graciously extending Assam's state-of-the-art training facilities,' Sawant said.
He said, 'This remarkable collaboration reflects the true spirit of national unity and reinforces the vision of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.'
Sawant noted that in the 10-month training, constables learned about crime detection, documentation collection, crowd management or crowd control, cybercrime, and human rights.
He emphasised that police are very close to the public and should reach out to them in case of a disaster. He said that the public always expects police to work without bias and provide justice.
'People expect you to follow the law; your behaviour creates the image of police in the public mind, and that is the reason you have to earn the trust of the public by being honest and sensitive,' Sawant said.

Police given free hand to maintain harmony in DK: Dinesh Gundu Rao
1 2 3 4 5 6 Mangaluru: Minister for health and family welfare Dinesh Gundu Rao said that the govt has taken recent murder cases in Dakshina Kannada district seriously and has established a Special Action Force to prevent communal clashes. During the Independence Day celebration held at Nehru Maidan on Friday, the minister said that the police department was given full responsibility to maintain peace and order in the district without any external pressure. "To understand the root of communal issues, peace and harmony meetings have been held with district representatives and leaders from various fields, and several measures are being implemented based on the consensus reached in these meetings," he said. To maintain peace and order in the district, religious leaders from temples, mosques, and churches should educate people at their respective religious centres, he suggested. "It is important to make the community understand that development is possible through harmony. Artistes in fields such as art, drama, and Yakshagana should focus more on conveying messages of harmony. Everyone should join hands for the comprehensive development of the district without allowing violence," the minister said. The district, known for its unique features in education, healthcare, tourism, and religion, also made significant contributions to the freedom movement, which is a matter of pride. The govt has been responding positively to the development of Dakshina Kannada district. Priority has been given to strengthening basic infrastructure and providing better civic amenities in all towns and rural areas of the district. Notably, there was an unprecedented response from the Dakshina Kannada district to all five major guarantee schemes of the state govt. Under the Gruha Lakshmi scheme, a total assistance of Rs 1,377 crore was sanctioned to 3.7 lakh women in the district so far, he said. At the Kukke Sri Subrahmanya Temple, under the Hindu religious endowment department, various infrastructure development and other necessary facilities are being undertaken in the third phase of the master plan at a cost of approximately Rs 400 crore this year, said Rao. The tourism department has approved various projects to develop infrastructure at Ullal Beach. Efforts are being made to attract tourists to the district by providing funding for various tourism programmes, he added. Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta, MLC Ivan D'Souza, MLA D Vedavyas Kamath, DC Darshan HV, Mangaluru City police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy, SP Arun K and others were present. Undermining nation's election system a challenge to democracy: Kerala minister K Rajan
Kozhikode: Revenue minister K Rajan said that attempts to undermine the nation's election system and voters' list is a challenge to democracy and the Constitution. Speaking after hoisting the National Flag at MSP Parade Grounds in Malappuram on Independence Day, Rajan said that India stands as a model for other countries because of the strong foundation of its democratic system. "The Constitution mandates that the country's electoral process must be transparent, flawless and fair. Those who attempt to tamper with voter lists or disrupt the electoral process by fabricating fake identity documents are challenging Indian democracy, the Constitution and the sanctity of nationalism. The illusion that the Constitution can be subverted and the electoral system undermined to subvert democracy will be against India's growth and development and cannot be permitted," the minister said. Rajan also criticized the alleged neglect of Kerala by Centre, calling it a sign of the failure of federalism. "Even in times of disaster, Kerala has faced blatant disregard. The demand to waive the debts of Chooralmala landslide victims was not accepted — despite Section 13 of the law passed by the Parliament in 2005 allowing debt waiver for people in disaster-hit areas. The move to amend that law is not in the spirit of democracy," the minister said in his Independence Day message. In a tacit reference to the call by governor to observe the Partition Horrors Day on Aug14, the minister said that the country should dream not of the dark nights of partition, but of the bright dawns of freedom. "On that tragic night of Partition, in the blood- and tear-soaked soil, Mahatma Gandhi walked barefoot through the streets of Noakhali carrying his message of peace, giving out the message not of the horrors of Partition but of unity, tolerance and brotherhood amidst diversity," the minister added.
