Mankameshwar temple issues guidelines for priests and devotees during Shravan
Prayagraj: After previously issuing directives regarding dress codes for common devotees, the management of Mankameshwar Mahadev Temple has now released guidelines for the conduct of priests who will perform religious ceremonies such as yagna and rudrabhishek during the sacred month of Shravan, which begins on July 11.
A major directive passed in the meeting is the strict prohibition of the consumption of gutkha, paan, and tobacco by priests during rituals and temple duties. Any priest found violating this rule will face strict disciplinary action.
In a high-level review meeting held on Tuesday under the leadership of Mahant Brahmachari Shridharanand Maharaj, preparations for the upcoming Shravan month were discussed. Significant decisions were finalised regarding the sanctity and discipline to be maintained during religious rituals at the temple.
The temple administration emphasised that use of such substances not only disrespects the sanctity of the rituals but also affects the clarity of chanting sacred mantras, affecting the spiritual efficacy of the ceremonies.
Mahant Shridharanand Maharaj said, "The purity of Vedic rituals depends on the devotion and discipline of the one performing them. The consumption of paan, gutkha, or tobacco interferes proper enunciation and disturbs the spiritual atmosphere.

Hence, it will not be tolerated under any circumstances." Any priest found violating this rule will face strict disciplinary action. For the first offence, they will be suspended from temple duties for one month and will be required to undergo penance (prayaschit). A repeat offence will result in permanent expulsion from the temple. These rules will also apply to devotees participating in special rituals. Earlier, the temple implemented a dress code for worshippers, which was reaffirmed in the meeting.
Male devotees are required to wear a dhoti, along with a shirt or kurta, while female devotees must wear a saree or salwar suit. Similarly, priests conducting rituals must wear a dhoti and kurta.
The temple administration has also decided that all puja and ceremonies will be conducted strictly as per designated schedule. To ensure implementation of all rules, an official will be appointed for monitoring purposes during Shravan.
