50 COVID-19 cases reported in Chhattisgarh, all mild, no cause for panic, says Health min

RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh has reported 50 confirmed cases of COVID-19 till Friday, but health authorities have urged citizens not to panic, assuring that all patients are exhibiting only mild, flu-like symptoms and do not require hospitalization. According to the State Health Department, symptoms such as low-grade fever, cold, cough, and sore throat have been observed in those infected. So far, 1,183 individuals have been tested, out of which 50 have tested positive with Covid-19. Of those positive, highest 31 patients were from Raipur and 12 from Bilaspur. Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal has directed all health officials across districts to ensure timely testing, contact tracing, and availability of sample collection services. Instructions have been given to refer only those with severe symptoms to hospitals for treatment. Minister Jaiswal has instructed Chief Medical and Health Officers (CMHOs), civil surgeons, and hospitals associated with medical colleges to maintain strict surveillance and testing protocols for suspected COVID-19 cases. Contact Tracing and Community Monitoring Underway Commissioner and Director of Health Services stated that rigorous surveillance is being carried out. Individuals who came into contact with infected patients are being identified and tested. Health teams have been dispatched to the respective localities for door-to-door surveys. 'Stay Alert, Not Afraid': Experts Advise Health experts from the Union Ministry of Health have stated that the currently circulating variant behaves similarly to seasonal flu, and there is no need for alarm. Raipur: Three drug samples collected from various districts in Chhattisgarh were declared substandard following inspections by the food and drug administration and laboratory testing. This is part of an ongoing drive to ensure that quality medicines are available to the public. According to departmental sources, 34 drug samples were collected from districts including Raipur, Bilaspur, Durg, Sakti, Rajnandgaon, Kondagaon, and Surajpur. These samples were sent to the State Drug Testing Laboratory in Raipur. After testing in May 2025, three medicines failed to meet quality standards. The substandard drugs include Vildamed Tablet (Batch No. VGT 242068A), manufactured by Vrindavan Global, Solan, Himachal Pradesh; Rifliwe M Tablet (Batch No. HG 24080598), manufactured by I Heal Pharmaceuticals, Baddi, Himachal Pradesh; and Donlocare DS Suspension (Batch No. DCN-002), manufactured by Quixotic Pharma, Mohali, Punjab. These medicines are commonly used to treat diabetes, fever, and infections. The department is taking action against the concerned manufacturers and distributors in accordance with regulations, said a departmental spokesperson. State health minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal said, "There will be no compromise with public health. Strict action will be taken against those selling or distributing substandard medicines. Our govt is committed to ensuring high-quality healthcare services in the state. All drug retailers have been instructed to sell only recognised and certified medicines." In a related development, teams of drug inspectors are conducting continuous raids on medical stores across the state to prevent the misuse of narcotic drugs. Work is also progressing rapidly to equip all medical establishments with CCTV cameras, as per govt directives.

Raipur: In a sweeping inspection drive launched in the summer season, the food and drug administration of Chhattisgarh has intensified its vigilance across several districts to ensure citizens are provided with safe, pure, and quality food products. The campaign, spearheaded by district food safety teams, has resulted in the collection of hundreds of samples and strong action against violations in Balod, Bemetara, Rajnandgaon, Durg, and Kabirdham districts in the state. Health minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal said that no negligence will be tolerated. Officials acting under the Food Safety and Standards Act, issued clear directives to food businesses on mandatory licensing/registration, timely renewal, and hygiene standards. In Balod, inspections were conducted at multiple establishments, including BB Foods & Beverages, from where plastic packaging and drinking water samples were collected. In Bemetara, food safety officials raided sweet shops, grocery stores, dairy producers, and ice factories. Penalties totalling Rs 17 lakh were imposed on seven outlets for violations. Packaged drinking water from brands sold in rural areas were sampled and sent for testing. Food samples such as potato masala, biryani rice, and jackfruit were also collected from local hotels and eateries. Since April 2025, 211 samples have been tested in the district, with 6 found substandard, 3 misbranded, and 3 deemed unsafe. Legal action is ongoing. In Durg, 18 legal samples of food items and 20 packaging material samples were taken. Previous tests have exposed quality issues in sweets, khoya, spices, bakery products, and drinking water.
