Mahant of temple killed in Rohtas
Sasaram: The mahant (head priest) of Shri Vijay Raghav Temple in Gandhi Nagar under Dehri town police station area, was allegedly murdered by one of his own associates on Friday.
According to police sources, Mahant Shyam Narayan Swami (60) was brutally attacked on the head with a brick by a fellow priest inside the temple premises.
The assault left him critically injured.
Other residents of the temple rushed to the spot upon hearing the commotion and immediately took the grievously injured mahant to Narayan Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
SDPO, Atulesh Jha, said the accused fled after the attack. "The identity of the accused has been established, and raids are being conducted at several suspected locations to arrest him," he said.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the murder was driven by personal enmity between the mahant and the accused, said station house officer Shivendra Kumar.
