Influencer Remi Bader confronts her father in an emotional sit-down

Influencer Remi Bader spoke about her 'strained' relationship with her dad, and how it impacted her body image in a new emotional video. The 30-year-old content creator, who recently revealed she underwent weight loss surgery, took to Instagram and TikTok to share the conversation she had with her father, Gary Bader, to be candid with her followers about her childhood. 'The past few days my dad and I have been discussing if this was something we'd both be comfortable enough sharing publicly,' her captions read. 'I think it's definitely a lot. But hopefully sharing some of this can be relatable to what some other people are going through or have gone through with their parents or a family member and struggles they're navigating with them.' She added: 'I don't want people to think that we're this perfect, laughing, smiling family.' Bader went on to admit that she and her dad haven't been close since the Covid-19 pandemic. 'A lot of that is build up of things you said to me in regards to my weight and eating and all these things since I've been little,' she told her father in the video. 'I think as women grow up ... and then you start getting those things from men, or friends or mean people or people online over the years and you start connecting that back to your childhood,' Bader continued, noting that she didn't necessarily think her father said everything with ill intent. She also pointed out the difficulty they faced being forced to live together during the pandemic. Bader then recalled specific times her dad made comments that negatively affected her. 'I remember you coming in from the garage and being like, 'Now I have to freaking hide my chips and put everything in the garage so you don't have to eat them because you can't control yourself,' she quoted her dad as saying.. Gary Bader said he doesn't remember saying some of the remarks Bader pointed out. Regardless, Bader confessed she cut her dad off after Christmas in 2023 and stopped speaking to him for seven months. Her dad recounted that the estrangement 'became an issue for me. My relationship with Remi was strained, and my relationship in my marriage was a little bit strained, and I decided to go see what I could do to go help myself.' Gary went on to say he sought 'intensive therapy' for five days straight. The program included six hours of individual sessions and two hours of group therapy daily. From his time in therapy, he said he came to understand that 'daughters have a certain sensitivity to their fathers' comments, 'even more so than their mother's saying it ... I think it has more of a negative impact if the father says it.' Remi responded in the video: 'I think that it's a two-way street, so this isn't all the blame on you. I felt like I was doing the work on it for a while, so I felt like you needed to be doing something in order for us to then work on it together.' Bader's sit-down with Gary comes just weeks after she admitted to getting Single Anastomosis Duodenal Switch (SADI), a surgery that cut 80 percent of her stomach, amid months of online rumors speculating she was taking anti-obesity medications. Speaking to Khloé Kardashian on her new podcast, Khloé in Wonder Land, Bader said: 'At this point everyone online is like, 'Okay, well she did one of the shots or she did the sleeve or something.' No one guessed this.' SADI is a weight loss surgery designed for people with severe, or class three obesity, according to Mercy. The procedure includes the removal of 80 percent of the stomach in order to create a 'tube-shaped sleeve,' as well separating the top part of the small intestine to below the stomach before reattaching it to the bottom part of the intestine.

What is SADI? The new weight loss surgery Remi Bader had that removes 80% of the stomach

In a new interview with Khloé Kardashian, influencer Remi Bader revealed she underwent a new weight loss surgery that cut 80 percent of her stomach. 'So it's called SADI,' Bader, 30, said during the reality star's most recent episode of her podcast, Khloé in Wonder Land. According to Mercy, SADI, otherwise referred to as Single Anastomosis Duodenal Switch, is a weight loss surgery designed for people with severe, or class three obesity, meaning they have a BMI (body mass index) of 40 or greater with 'at least 100 pounds of excess weight.' 'The SADI procedure combines sleeve gastrectomy with intestinal bypass to promote greater weight loss,' the website states. 'For people with severe obesity, the laparoscopic SADI procedure may be the best surgical weight loss option. It results in longer-lasting weight loss and less regain than other types of bariatric surgery.' The procedure includes the removal of 80 percent of the stomach in order to create a 'tube-shaped sleeve,' as well separating the top part of the small intestine called the duodenum and moving it below the stomach before reattaching it to the bottom part of the same intestine. Repositioning the duodenum cuts the small intestine in half, which therefore decreases calorie absorption, per Mercy. According to the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, an estimated 1,600 SADI procedures were performed in 2022, up from 488 in 2020. 'SADI is sometimes performed for people who've had sleeve gastrectomy but didn't lose the expected weight or have regained weight,' Mercy states. Sleeve gastrectomy is a separate weight loss procedure that removes only part of the stomach, reshaping the rest into a tube to hold less food and limit intake. SADI-S (with sleeve gastrectomy) was first introduced in medical writing by Andrés Sánchez-Pernaute and Antonio Torres in 2007 as a method to simplify the biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch technique (BD-DS). Undergoing SADI after sleeve gastrectomy 'adds an intestinal bypass and may involve reshaping the gastric sleeve' depending on the individual's needs. After getting SADI, patients must book follow-up care appointments regularly for the rest of their life. They also are required to adhere to strict nutritional guidelines as outlined by their bariatric team. Benefits of the procedure include restricted meal sizes, decreased appetite, improved metabolism, and lower risk of gastric ulcers. SADI can also trigger 'remission of conditions like type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and obstructive sleep apnea' and 'preserve the pyloric valve (where food passes from the stomach to the intestine), which helps decrease bile reflux and stomach irritation,' per Mercy. However, SADI can also potentially cause several complications such as bleeding/blood clots, infection, low blood sugar, leaking, malnutrition, dehydration, hernia, gallstones, spleen and organ injuries, and vitamin/mineral deficiencies. In addition, the procedure could cause dumping syndrome which is 'a condition in which food, especially food high in sugar, moves from your stomach into your small bowel too quickly after you eat,' according to Mayo Clinic.

Influencer Remi Bader admits to weight loss surgery after months of speculation

Fashion influencer Remi Bader just revealed she underwent a weight loss surgery that cut 80 percent of her stomach amid months of online rumors speculating she was taking anti-obesity medications. 'There was a brand new, newer surgery which is what I did,' the 30-year-old content creator with over 2.3 million followers told Khloé Kardashian during the most recent episode of her podcast, Khloé in Wonder Land. 'What everyone online, of course, at this point everyone online is like, 'Okay, well she did one of the shots or she did the sleeve or something. No one guessed this,' Bader continued before admitting she got a surgery called SADI, otherwise referred to as Single Anastomosis Duodenal Switch. Single Anastomosis Duodenal Switch is a weight loss surgery designed for people with severe, or class three obesity, according to Mercy. 'The SADI procedure combines sleeve gastrectomy with intestinal bypass to promote greater weight loss,' the website states. The procedure includes the removal of 80 percent of the stomach in order to create a 'tube-shaped sleeve,' as well separating the top part of the small intestine to below the stomach before reattaching it to the bottom part of the intestine. Bader, who rose to fame on TikTok for her whimsical modeling videos, said her doctors also had to 'hold up' her liver during the operation due to its fat content. 'Which can be dangerous,' she added. 'And why even talking about this I thought the recovery would be so simple is insane, but I was told that.' In reality, Bader described the recovery as 'the worst thing of my life.' The social media personality has faced body criticisms for months as many people have accused her of taking either Ozempic or Wegovy after she openly spoke about her health and fitness journey online. In May 2024, Bader penned a personal essay for Nylon in a move to set boundaries with her followers when it comes to sharing personal details about her health. 'Today, I am no longer in a place where I want my body and the status of my physical health to be the main topic,' she wrote. 'That doesn't mean I won't decide to share about my body in the future, but for right now, it feels best for me to put myself and my mental health first.' Bader spoke out again in August 2024 to address ongoing backlash over her changing physique. On Instagram, the influencer shared a carousel of photos to show how her body weight has fluctuated over the years, encouraging her followers to feel content with their figures. 'I fear if we don't learn to love our bodies even as they get bigger, as they change, we'll spend forever wishing away who we are,' she said. 'Because I know you didn't love the body you wish you could get back, did you? I know you've always wished to be different, and wished to be smaller, and wished to take up less space.' Addressing the negativity she'd received, Bader said: 'I hide a lot of my comments on here for my own mental health. Words like 'fat' 'whale' 'obese' 'skinny' 'tiny' to name a few. 'But of course I still see them and it's hard to see the constant conversation about my body on this app, because I also wonder, why does that need to be the most important thing about me?' She added that last year she was considered 'too big for society, the closest people to me, and a bad example to the world,' but this year she is being criticized for the opposite. 'This August I am too small for my community, too small for some brands, but still too big for many, and STILL too big for society,' she said, admitting the opposite was true for her self-love. 'I am a lot bigger than my body and will always be the same Remi no matter what I weigh, and that I am sure of,' Bader finished.
