Fleet Farm honoring Memorial Day with Taps Across America
(KCAU) — A department store with a location in Siouxland will be honoring service members this Memorial Day. On Memorial Day, Monday, May 26, Fleet Farm will be hosting their 'Fleet Farm Salutes Taps Across America.' 'This event allows communities across the country to come together in remembrance of our fallen service members on Memorial Day. We're deeply moved by our customers' enthusiasm to participate in this tribute and preserve its vital legacy,' said Fleet Farm President Nick Widi. The event starts with a moment of silence at 3 p.m. followed by a bugler playing taps. Additionally, military servicemen and veterans will be given 10% off their purchase that day. Thunder on the Missouri planned for Sunday
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — On Sunday, Thunder on the Missouri hosted in Siouxland. The event pays tribute to prisoners of war and those who went missing in action. It's Siouxland version of the national event called 'Rolling to Remember.' The ride starts at American Legion Post 662 in Sergeant Bluff where riders will be assigned their positions. Around 2 p.m., law enforcement will be escorting the group to South Sioux City High School. The group then heads to Siouxland Freedom Park and should arrive around 2:30 p.m. After, there will be a Thunder Salute and a ceremony at the wall. If you want to ride, officials said all vehicles are welcome, and you don't even need to be a veteran to participate. 19th edition of Iowa State Cyclone Tailgate Tour visits Sioux City
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — The Cyclone Tailgate Tour celebrated its 19th annual trip around the Hawkeye State, making a stop in Okoboji on Thursday night and the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City on Friday afternoon. It gave coaches and well-known Cyclones a chance to connect with Siouxland fans. Sioux City was the ninth stop for the tour, which started on May 19 in Ankeny. Making the trip from Okoboji last night, the Cyclones' caravan featured a handful of coaches, such as Matt Campbell of ISU Football and men's basketball head coach T.J. Otzelberger alongside Iowa State Athletic Director Jamie Pollard. Providing an opportunity to connect to the fan base not only provides excitement for Cyclone fans in Siouxland, but also the coaches making the trip to the '712'. Just the crowds just continue to double. I've been doing this eight years now. I've been on the tailgate tour for eight years, and I can literally say that it probably has doubled just about everywhere we went in that period of time,' explained Iowa State Wrestling Head Coach Kevin Dresser. 'We're really fortunate for the support that we have here and see so many great fans have already come into the building. The energy and excitement is really high,' Otzelberger mentioned. 'It's been great. We had a phenomenal crowd in Okoboji last night. The western and northwestern part of the state has been really good as the Cyclones,' added Iowa State Men's Basketball Head Coach Bill Fennelly. 'The events have grown and changed so much in my time, and to see, you know, where we started almost 20 years ago to where we are now with the events and the interest and the crowds and the kids coming out, and you know, just the excitement,' said Iowa State Volleyball Head Coach Christy Johnson-Lynch. 'It's been really fun to see that evolution, and every year seems to get a little bit bigger, a little bit better.' The tour wraps up Friday night in Council Bluffs. Iowa Senator Ernst pushes for military construction funds for 185th
(KCAU) — Iowa Senator Joni Ernst continues to ask the U.S. Air Force about the 185th Air Refueling Wing's runway project. During Wednesday's Senate Committee on armed services hearing, the senator brought up the runway upgrade project. U.S. Air Force Chief of Staff General David Allvin said the design work for the project is 65% complete, which is pass the minimum 35% design stage for military construction, or MILCON, projects in order for them to be submitted for congress' approval for funding. 'You've got my commitment. I will continue to push on this. The design work is now limiting any of the obstacles on our path to actually do it,' said is Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. David Allvin. Ernst said the F16s were taken away from the 185th back in 2003, with the Air Force's commitment that when the unit got the KC135s, a runway would be built to support the aircraft's weight, but that hasn't happened yet. May 5th PM: Mild night underway, shower chances for Wednesday
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — A mild night in Siouxland with lows only falling off into the low 50's with cloud cover on the increase. Seeing shower chances return for Wednesday afternoon, but still expect dry conditions for some of the day Wednesday. Highs, despite the additional cloud cover still rise into the low 80's and upper 70's. Shower chances carry over into early Thursday and expecting a slightly cooler day for Thursday as highs rise into the upper 70's. Sunshine returns Friday, with even warmer highs in the mid/upper 80s heading into the weekend. We'll see those temperatures stay in the upper 80's through the weekend with temperatures even nearing the 90° and potentially making it into the low 90's. A warm day Sunday for Mother's Day with sunshine in place as well. Looking like it could be a bit breezy though, which could elevate fire danger at times. Another system appearing by midweek next week and should see temperatures cool a bit with potentially a few shower chances as well.
